At its iPhone 4 press conference today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the results of the company's investigation into complaints of signal problems on the new device. According to Jobs, the issue is being experienced by a very small proportion of customers but that the company wants every customer to be satisfied.

To that end, Jobs outlined three steps the company has taken:

- iOS 4.0.1 fixes the signal strength display issue by recalibrating the "bars" displayed, and all customers should apply the software update.

- Apple will provide all iPhone 4 customers who purchase their phones by September 30th a free case. Customers will be able to choose from Apple's own bumpers, as well as third-party cases sourced from other vendors. Customers who have already purchased a bumper can receive a refund. Apple's site will begin taking orders for the free cases beginning late next week, and the company will re-revaluate the case situation as it gets closer to the September deadline.

- Any customer who is still unhappy with their iPhone 4 can return it, provided it is undamaged, within 30 days of purchase with no restocking fee charged.

Jobs maintained throughout that the issue was one common to other mobile phones and according to their data, this affects a very small percentage of iPhone 4 owners.

Hell has frozen over.

In all seriousness though, I found all the numbers pretty convincing of Steve's points. Far fewer phones have been returned, which I think says everything. Very few people are experiencing this issue.

Extra, Extra...

September 30th is a really long extension for returns - speaks of confidence for consumer satisfaction.

From "Coverage of Apple's iPhone 4 Press Conference":
If you're still not happy, you can return your undamaged iPhone 4 within 30 days for a full refund, no restocking fee

Any customer who is still unhappy with their iPhone 4 can return it, provided it is undamaged, within 30 days of purchase with no restocking fee charged.

Is it definitely 30 days from purchase and not 30 days from today?

His numbers were garbage.

When I returned my phone, because it wouldn't make a call without failing, the reason indicated on the RMA was "changed mind".

Also you don't buy an Armani suit to walk around with a parka over it all day. Why couldn't they just admit to the conductivity issues and tell people they were going to fix it?

Simple solution for people who want iPhone 4 without a case

• scotch tape

• try the phone, as it is out of the box, and see if you even have a problem after a few weeks

• get another phone

Those of us who like our iPhone 4s... We won't let the door hit you on the way out.

uhm no

Very few people are reporting the problem to Apple support.
(There fixed it.)

September 30th is the date by which you need to purchase an iPhone 4 in order to get a free case. It is NOT the extension for returns.

You can return your iPhone4 after 30 days (presumably after your purchase date, but some people are wondering if Jobs meant 30 days after today.)

It's like I said all along. A bunch of morons listening to unreliable news organizations.

You can tell Steve's really ticked off now that he realizes a large portion of his users are complete idiots.

EVERYONE

If you are unhappy with your phone, RETURN IT. Otherwise shut up.

This is Apple's solution until iPhone 5. Take it or leave it.

Happy here!!

I'm a happy costumer since mine and my BF's iPhones are working fine, but I'm still getting the bumper for both phones, and if I don't like the feel or the look, I'll keep it the way they are now!!!
