I hope they will at least use the "eco-friendly" version of their logo on the bags.
Light brown bags, white logo and green leaf would look great and drive home the eco message.

i love more the paper bags. Rolex is doing it, YSL is doing it, Armani etc and i love them more. they are quality don't think about a low paper newspaper quality

Well, it's either blast the Ozone layer or cut down trees if recycling doesn't cut it, pick your poison. Someone needs to come up with a bio-degradable bag.
What makes you think that a paper bag is NOT biodegradable?

Already in the works - something like 7,000 trees are slated to be planted on the new campus in Cupertino.

But seriously... I'd applaud if Apple purchased some whopping big tracts of land to be re-forested, to be used for sustainable forestry, or just plain preserved. I'm not incredibly optimistic, because in the end, most of Apple's environmental initiatives seem to have a long-term economic payoff - something that can be justified to the shareholders, should that be necessary. I think they'd have a harder time explaining a million-acre Apple orchard than justifying a major investment in solar energy production.
Which they are already doing. They have invested in some forrests. Some of which is for cutting down and some to be retained and not logged.

hehe... ya... Apple's intruding environmental plastic blags that not are not only cheaper but they also will break.

No one seems do this far as much as Apple, even right down to the things we carry

I tell them not to bother with a bag whenever I buy anything. I have never bought anything bigger than a MacBook Pro from them, so whatever doesn't fit into my backpack, I just carry curled under my arm like a football out to the car.

In the event that they beat me to the punch and ask if I want a bag, I always refuse. Last thing I need is yet another plastic bag to recycle.

I don't think I've ever brought home a bag from an Apple Store. They already ask if you need a bag. I say no.

usually i never argue... after all they are selling *me* something..

Then again,it would explain why i never go to the Apple Store anymore. *thinks*

Apple is "environmentally friendly" when it comes to plastic bags, but they'll still sell Mac Minis, Airs with glued in 4Gigs of RAM, this ensuring a shortened lifespan, and wasted precious resources. Plus all the other glued in RAM/storage.

Say one thing, do another.

However, gluing in the components allows them to use less material, saving resource usage. Considering that only a fraction of users ever upgrade the components anyway, it is not at all clear that gluing components is a "waste."

Same here in the EUSSR. Free plastic bags have been banned since Jan 1st. It's either you pay for it or BYO. Paper bags are still allowed.

In some places you can't even pay for it. It's no bag or paper bag. At least the paper bags are getting better. For a while they were crappy with handles. Now they are quite sturdy. I can reuse many times.

This makes me sad. I like those bags. I totally understand why they are doing it, but it still bums me out. They make great bags to reuse for carrying other things later and look really cool while doing it. Not sure any paper bag can match that.

I totally agree with the environmental part but carrying a new Mac in their backpack style bag on the subway back from the store was just part of the experience and I'm really going to miss it, the bags were also very useful when I needed to bring my computer or anything back to the Genius Bar and I'm not so sure about the durability of the paper ones, I can't imagine an Mac or an iPhone being put in a bag just like that...:(

Amazed they don't just give (or sell) reusable bags for your next purchase or to use when doing your weekly shop.

I am hoping they'll be similar to the Apple Watch bags. High end, quality, drawing inspiration from high fashion luxury retail brands.

I was about to say that I really would like to stay with the current bags, but if the new ones are really classy, like you said the Apple Watch bags, or the iPhone release day bags from years ago, then I approve.

I spent over $1100 at Apple Headquarters Cupertino location on a 128GB iPhone 6S Plus with AppleCare. They didn't offer me a bag, which I understand from an environmental point of view. But I asked "May I have an Apple bag since I spent over $1000 on this iPhone?" to which they graciously gave me the Apple bag, which I proudly own.
