I too will miss those bags. They make great laundry bags when travelling. I have two of them when I travel. The plastic seems to be more longer-lasting, and their double-wall just feels great. I'll keep my current Apple laundry bags until they disintegrate.

Ever since Angela took over, the shops have become lazy. In London, they wore the red "cheap" t-shirts well into February which we usually only wore during December. The quality of our t-shirts are horrible, they don't pass the quality test, but then that's not the only thing that doesn't pass it these days. They make us look like slobs. Most chubby people are forced into a size that make them look like a silk worm which is really unappealing. Angela is taking away so many of the things that used to make Apple a great store. Her role and actions don't justify her pay check at all. I don't get what she is doing.

The shops are dirtier, clothes looks terrible, the layout has lost the Apple feel to it, tables are not just dirty but scarred and damaged and it's visible now. The bags were great, but once we used to only give it out to people who bought items for x amount of Dollars or Pounds. But now, with paper bags it will just look even cheaper. We'll get paper cuts and the layout for where we'll get the bags won't even be from under the tables anymore. Unless we get new tables and knowing Angela I bet we won't.

Don't be fooled people it's not about the environment, because it's 2016 and if these bags were such an issue, we would have had paper bags long before Steve Jobs died and he didn't care.

It's all about saving money, yes, Apple is trying to save money because they are not generating enough these days according to the planned roadmap for how much they were estimating.

Cuts are being made left and right within Apple and soon you'll see it in the products too. If you look closely you'll see it already.

Point in case is that Angela isn't helping the Retail business of Apple but making it ordinary and less competitive. I've been with Apple for years, I've been with Apple since Steve Jobs and I can see the quality of Retail for employees and customers how much quality and service has dropped.

So no, it's not about saving the environment. It's about saving money for Apple who already is making tons of money on products that are overpriced.

You know... for the sensitive Apple fanatic, this won't make sense, for everyone else, you knows this to be true will be a bit more awake next time they enter a shop and see how the new Employees are nothing like the old, how service isn't the same and quality is much lower than anything Steve Jobs would have agreed to had he been alive.

THIS is the new APPLE... For as long as it is... enjoy it because, it's just not getting better at this point.

Apple was an amazing company who forgot who they were, got tied up in Politics and fame and invested all of their money in smoke and mirrors to hide how little the machines have actually improved over the years.

Too many flaws in software updates, too many flaws in hardware releases... yes we see it daily and when I started at Apple in 2007, compared to today... its unforgivable when you consider how much they ask for their products.

If this bothers you as you are reading it, then I guess you are part of the problem and not the solution. Demand more from Apple... If you love them, like their products, voice your opinions and try to be more critical and not choking on the cool aid that's been forced down everyones throats.

Apple has risen from the ashes twice before, but that was thanks to Steve Jobs... Tim Cook is part of the problem... not the solution... so will there be a third time around? Or are we closer to the end of what once was a great computer company... That's really the question everyone should think about.

All this belly-aching over a bag? What are we 3 and need an adult to scold us that plastic bags are not toys? Seriously? It's a BAG for crying out loud.

I can't recall caring about a store's bags... Ever. But plenty of stores -- high end stores -- have paper bags. Neimans, Nordstrom, Bally, Zenga, Saks, on and on. For all you fretting, they work just fine transporting your purchase home.

Now as for the enviro claim, a lot of knee-jerk reaction here too. My guess is Apple's primary motive here isn't environmental but that makes great sub-text to further Apple's eco image. More plausible is that Apple's current bag is quite expensive to make as far as shopping bags go. This is a way to cut expenses the same way, say, peanut companies do by stealthly start filling 90 peanuts per jar instead to 100 & launch the "shorted" bottles with a new mesmerizing label to distract buyers. Over time that extra 10 peanuts x millions of jars sold = lots of $. The Eco wrapper Apple is putting on it gives Apple cover to look caring rather than corporate penny pinchers. But Apple missed a PR beat here releasing the bag on tax day rather than Earth Day. But that's predictable under TC's Apple.

Environmentally though, paper is heavier and denser than plastic. That means fewer bags per box & also more energy needed to transport them. So paper is not necessarily better for the enviro. Most plastics are recyclable these days & most communities Apple has stores have comingle recycling. Plastic bags made of majority recycled plastic also exist.

But again I can't get upset over a bag. Absence of a 64MB 9.7 Pro for $599, well, yes.
So basically, just like the rest of us, you don't know why this change is being made.

Apple was once frowned upon by environmentalists , its amazing how they became one of the most "environment friendly" companies with renewable energy and recycled products.

I remember when they had low scores because of materials used in their products

Oh no!

Am I the only one here who LOVES the current bags? I use them for just about everything. I must own over 30 of them lol.

Oh yes, I am the same way. Definitely not alone here. They're of great quality. I have every bag I've received for the past 10 years, and recycle them myself by using them when in need for a small bag.

Yet planned obsolescence in Apple computers today sends machines to the landfill quicker than ever before. Oh the sweet sweet nectar of irony...
You mean like my 2007 iMac, which can run El Capitan? Apparently they plan at least a decade or so for obsolescence these days. Can't say I see the problem. Hell, even once I can't upgrade it, I'll still be able to use it. I have yet to face that problem though.

Something like 80% of the paper used in the US is made from farmed trees. You're not really saving trees.

Wow... All of this discussion over which bags are better. Each person has a preference in terms of use and their own feedback for application preference. I respect that and will refrain from comment on that part.

However, if we are going to argue about the environment, then you need to take every step from creation to bio-degration into account. What is the products total carbon footprint, total chemical by-product waste, and time to completely biodegrade?

In each case, paper is the run away winner. And it is not close.

It could be worse, you could have to pay for that paper bag like you do at the grocery store when you forget your reusable bags. :p *

*this only applies if you live in a city that passed bag laws years ago, which I do and still always forget my bags.

Comments about Steve Jobs. Comments about folding bags up and cherishing the items that came in them. Comments about how people are going to miss bags. BAGS. They are bags. Are these comments real?

I still remember the old paper bag from the Apple Store.

So basically, just like the rest of us, you don't know why this change is being made.

And your point of such a snarky comment is...

To be snarky? Or are you one of those types that loves free speech and expression of ideas as long as they run parallel to your own.

Yes, just like every one else here I have no inside info to Apple's decisions. It's true, I can only make an educated guess based on what I do know, just like every one else here... So do you have a legit point to make did you just wake up grumpy?

This is great news.

I wish other shops in England would also provide paper bags for free instead of cynically charging us 5p for plastic bags and pretending that they have no other choice.

Plastic takes less space in landfills. Oil is cheap. Plastic is more durable and likely to be reused. Paper takes trees or recycled paper is really intense chemically.

There is no right environmental choice. This is just virtue signaling by Apple (or money savings) and as such I view as loss of focus stupid stuff. But I don't own any stock, so who cares. It's not my company or my money.

It would be nice if there was an Apple store where I live, many people think San Antonio is "South Texas" :D

I would settle for any bag, paper or plastic.

That's odd seeing that there are TWO Apple Stores in San Antonio that are constantly packed. (See: La Cantera and Northstar Malls)
