can the Meta Quest show my Mac’s screen wirelessly? can it also show my iMessage threads, do FaceTime and get access to the full Disney+ library?

serious questions!
Why do you need to see your computer screen when you have a screen in your computer lol a headset is for an experience you don’t get in a 2d screen, it’s a virtual 360 immersive display something a 2d display doesn’t give you, all the new headset is really is a big multi display device

Well, this has an M2 in it so it's a functional Laptop with an infinite screen.

It's a full-on AR device, not a VR games console ( thought I suspect it will be great at that )

The Meta Quest 3 looks great, the little we have seen of it but it's not a functional work computer which is what this is.

Don't forget that this is the first Gen. give it a year and there will be a consumer Apple Vision Air at $999.
Except it literally is. Meta added the workspaces feature 3 years ago, which lets you connect a Bluetooth keyboard and work with multiple screens at the same time. Don't fall for Apple marketing please, google Meta Quest and see for yourself

All they needed was a killer vr game experience and it would be epic but nope just a 2d big display, it’s just a virtual external monitor

Exactly bro but since this thing doesn't even support controllers idk how it can be done. I just expected something unique/revolutionary idk.

Yeah it’s a shame I used to get so exited for apple updates, even iOS 17 looks the same from ios 7 10 years and the exact same app icons I’m bored of apple updates now

The issue is that our hand interactions are generally with real physical objects we can touch, which don’t exist in VR. That's why we still use physical keyboards for real productivity (even the keynote highlighted the use of physical keyboards and trackpads with the Vision Pro), physical controllers for serious gaming, steering wheels and other physical controls in cars, etc. Hand gestures are inherently more ambiguous, less precise, have no physical feedback in VR, and thus only get you so far. It's also for a reason the Vision Pro has a digital crown.
Vision Pro also supports game controllers but that is just for a few ports. If anyone thinks this product will be for playing AAA titles, you’re mistaken. This is Apple and this is a VR/AR platform so Apple wants original titles, not shooters. The best way is to start over and scrap all of those controllers. They are physical but don’t really offer any feedback. Apple’s first controllers for this platform will probably be gloves that offer true feedback.

Those imitation VR toys can’t do any of what this device can do though.

Your quest defending posts are cringe. All of them.
The cringiest post in the thread is by you, dude. I'm not a meta fan, but calling it "imitation" VR is straight 100% cringe. Perhaps even more cringe than the Apple Vision Pro's front screen with the eyes on it.

The keynote did show full virtual environments, so it should be possible. The lack of controllers might limit the types of VR games.
You can use PS5 controllers (pretty sure they showed that). Would be epic if they let you use PS5 motion controllers.

The fact that you don’t need controllers makes it much more of a full VR experience. Even the best controllers are crude middle men for our hands and eye interactions. Apple introduced a whole new platform that could drive the VR industry for the next 10 years. Meta’s VR accessories are good for about 1-2 years and then they’re already outdated as new software demands more immersion.
Try playing a complicated video game with your hands. Saying controlllers are crude middle men is like saying a keyboard is crude middle man. No it’s an optimized solution to use our hands efficiently. We will have to see how apple does but controller, keyboards, mice are all great and often better than just hands.

This first version is not really intended for regular consumers to purchase, folks. That should be obvious. You can buy one, but you probably shouldn't.
You probably shouldn't tell people if they should or shouldn't buy something. Just saying.

Let's see how it develops and what the ecosystem offers. Personally, I don't like to wear a headset to watch movies or work. As a designer for UX I prefer the mouse and monitor. But games would be fun.
I have seen Office 365 working amazingly well in the presentation. If Microsoft can make a good native apps, I am sure million apps out there can do better.

The movie watching experience is what i am interested in seeing how that will look and pan out. Assuming the movie is less than 2 hours long. Also much of apple marketing and the graphics they have used in the VR presentation was added on to simulate what it would look like so real world thoughts are yet to be provided by regular users.
You can connect to power adapter for unlimited power. Pretty sure that magsafe charger is using USB-C like your normal Apple Watch charger. You only need battery when you are walking in the jungle.

Cue the devs who will complain about forking over any amount for one of these to test their software.
It says it will be on sale in the US initially, so I’m guessing developers that aren’t releasing software on the US store don’t get access to it until after it’s released?

Because they're too dumb to make their own decision? Come on man. It's an opinion, feel free to take it or leave it (I thought that should have been obvious enough to not even have to say).

I don't believe Apple has any interest in complicated video games. Just look at Apple Arcade, it's all touch based and Apple had to have their arms twisted just to support controllers. If you're looking to game like you do on consoles, PCs or Meta using Vision Pro, you're wasting your time.

That would be software. This was a hardware introduction to the developers who will hopefully write those killer games. Apple seems to be trying to avoid this being viewed as just a gaming device, but at least some developers will create games, with more following if it becomes a success. There was nothing in the demo that limited it to being “just a 2D big display” any more than the Quest 2 is limited to being just a Netflix viewer because it has a Netflix app. It is all about the software that developers create to run on it, as these are just different form factor computers. Hopefully someone comes up with a killer app.

Guys

How do I apply to obtain one? I am registered developer.
The information should show up in your developer account when they are available / you are eligible. That is traditionally how it has worked.

I assume it will be $5500 in this country. That is twice the price of the highest spec iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I saw the announcement, and my first reaction was that it was another lame-ass headset. After watching the keynote, I realized that the Vision Pro differs from the Meta Quest. The Vision Pro is a new display and input device that could also do fully immersive VR if you want to. They Keynote demoed using the Vision Pro to connect to your Mac. This is very interesting since you could use the Vision Pro as aac Studio display for an M. If latency is good enough, you could keep your Mac in an office and work from your couch. I am curious to see where this goes, but I will wait for the 2nd gen. Remember how expensive the first iPhone was at launch?
