Making it available in black is one step less douchey plus it doesn't get as dirty as white. Is that enough though to overlook the douchey stems? Guess time will tell when seen in public.

It’s really difficult to take your opinion seriously, especially when you’re referring to the AirPods as you do. Let me tell you, I’m in the gym five days a week, I live in a fairly large city, and I see the AirPods _all_ the time in public, and they don’t look anything like you’re describing them as, and I think generally, consumers don’t care what some Else chooses to wear for earbuds.

Here’s hoping they do something like a core-exchange so those of us with battery issues can simply swap out for a new pair for a discounted price. THAT’D be magical.

how about matte black, that'd be nice. white just sticks out like a sore thumb.
I think that was the point. The original white earbuds were iconic-- you knew someone was using an iPod when you saw the white wires. Same thing is happening now with the AirPods-- they get noticed.

I think people are entirely too hung up on the appearance of these things. As @AngerDanger illustrated in the before times, the Airpods basically look exactly like EarPods with the wire removed.

 has released hardware in black for decades.

Well, @SoN1NjA said that Apple rarely released black products, not that they never released anything in black.

Right now it comes to my mind the black MacBook you posted, the Mac Pro trashcan, and the iPhone 7. Maybe I miss one or two more devices, but still Apple hugely prefers white color. And after a lot of years choosing the Space Grey color, I'm starting to like silver on MacBook Air, 11" iPad Pro, and even the white iPhone 8 (although mine is black).

As long as there are audio improvements I’ll buy.

Actually, the audio is the last thing that I want to see improved. I think they’re fairly loud and offer decent bass coming from such a small speaker on the AirPods. I’m actually really shocked how how good they do sound, obviously there is competition in the Bluetooth market that sounds better than the AirPods, but for the price of the AirPods, I haven’t read/heard too many complaints about the audio.

I think a price increase is a certainty with new technologies and coating techniques. The current price is an absolute bargain versus the competition, so Apple has a lot of room for price growth while continuing to have the market leading product. $199 would still be very cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nearer to $249.
Isn't there an /s missing somewhere there in your post?

There's already a pair of Sennheiser wireless airbuds that sound better than any other pair out there. But... the Bluetooth connection keeps dropping, the touch controls work only intermittently, charging case works awkwardly and so on. Oh, and you can only pair them with one device at a time (of course I'm taking into account the fact, that AirPods only work with multiple devices in Apple's ecosystem). It's not that easy to make a decent pair

Has hell frozen over? Apple very rarely releases stuff in black, although they have done more recently (like the Mac mini and iMac Pro)

Old news...

It's obvious Apple is releasing these things at the end of March. Too many leaks to not be available by then. They'll announce their services and have plenty of other things to go with them. This is what Apple does.

I'd much prefer black if for no other reason than they won't look as obvious. I really like my AirPods, but... I can't say I love the way the look. Headphones in general look pretty lame, so my desire to draw attention to them is pretty low.

A bargain vs the competition?? The competition is actually a much better product than the AirPods, at the same price. Don’t know what you’re comparing to...
