MacBook Pro iSight

The iSight in my MacBook Pro records video @ 1280x1024 already and when I look at System Profiler the iSight cam is in the list as an USB webcam so there is nothing new here.

USB High-Speed Bus:

Host Controller Location: Built In USB
Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBEHCI
PCI Device ID: 0x2836
PCI Revision ID: 0x0003
PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086
Bus Number: 0xfd

Built-in iSight:

Version: 1.60
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Product ID: 0x8502
Serial Number: ---
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Computer, Inc.)

Edit: My iSight is referred in QuickTime as "Built-in iSight" (although it is a second or actually third generation iSight)

Now what kind of application would a HD iSight have? I've been using the iSight ever since it came out and been video chatting for over a decade, was happy with black and white back in CU SeeMe!

I think this is pretty old but there is a lot of potential:

* iSight HD for New LED Displays

* iSight HD for Apple TV

* iSight HD built-in to every (plausible) Mac

* iSight built-in to 3rd Gen iPhone

* iChat for OS X Leopard, OS X iPhone & Windows

The iSight in most Macs now has a higher resolution than that, iChat caps it to 640x480 for video chat. If you select it as a source in iMovie you can see the full res.

Current iSights are 1280x1024. For clarity on the matter.

You're all correct. Not that you need yet someone else to say so.

Macs based on the Santa Rosa platform have the higher resolution 1280 x 1024 iSights.

i would love to get an iSight for my pc, (as my current one is crappy) seems though like it would not be that far from true since the ACD's dont have the isight cameras i would be really cool to have them on at least the larger ones if not all of them

a lot of pro settings still only use mac pros or pmg5s. This would be great for conferencing since the iSight has been gone for awhile. Gotta say though I've had the original iSight since the month it came out and also have a MacBook with a built in and the MacBook iSight KILLS the original in quality.

I think iChat for PC would be great along with an HD iSight.

I really hope Apple releases an external iSight HD camera. Been looking into the normal one for a while, but have been scared off by the high price points for a used, out of date webcam on eBay. Please, oh please Apple, release a new iSight for us Mac Mini/Mac Pro users! Oh yeah, by the way, the iSight was introduced in WWDC 04. Not 03, like stated above, or like stated at Wikipedia.

iSight-quality web cam?

Can someone recommend a high quality web cam that's currently available on the market?

oh wow the MB is better than the iSight quality?? i spose thats about right seeing as though the iSight is pretty old and outdated.

ftr: PMG5's never came out hahaha.

before they bring out iChat for PC, i want it to work properly for my needs, e.g. be able to utilise hotmail's video conferencing (or even hotmail fullstop!)

Does anyone know how much the external iSights are going for on eBay or if they're even of any value anymore since it's included in most all systems.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

This is really neat. I bought an iSight in '03 when they first came out and I really like it. I think an HD model will be great. Maybe even put it in a new Apple Display.

Horray - i hope they release a new external isight
But my friends suggestion made me really laugh - he said that it was the iphone just used as a webcam by turning it around and plugging it into the mac:D
