I like to use one device in order to interact with data, communications and the internet. An iPad Pro with a keyboard and a trackpad would mean I have a iPad and an iPhone, instead of an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I could attach the iPad to a monitor and if it shut off, use it as a laptop replacement and then use also as a mobile device when it was time to go to work again. No need for a laptop for me, I don’t do video editing or music editing. I would buy this with an upspecc’ed iPad in a heart beat, to fully realize a laptop replacement in a smaller form factor. Cool!!!

That might be handy when I control
a PC, thanks for that.

But please add a ESC key!

I’m guessing “trackpad” means ”that thing the software keyboard does when you hold your finger down on the spacebar”. When you consider what “mouse” means in an iPad context, it makes sense.

Why not kill the ipad? Since the mac is an better product..
Why kill either? They can coexist even with significant overlap! Some people might want a device that can do Mac-like basic productivity while plugged into a keyboard cover, but can also be used for touch/ pen input apps... other's won't have a need for the latter functionality and might prefer a sturdier clamshell design and (now, once again) nicer keyboard.

Why? I love PadOS. I even prefer my iOS workflow. While my MacBook Pro collects dust, I run a company from my iPad Pro.
Yes because the macbook stood in last years,no innovation while the ipad is growing to be more like a mac but with a more closed OS

iPadBook would be a boon for educational market, a single device that can replace both Chromebook and iPad (many schools use both), assuming it is priced between $399 and 499. It must be cheaper than getting both entry-level iPad ($299 edu pricing) and Chromebook.

I don’t use a physical keyboard with my iPad Pro but I don’t know how anyone can use a keyboard without a trackpad. Anytime I place my hands on an iPad keyboard the first thing my thumbs do is look for a trackpad. This is good.

Why not to put their hard work for an 12” macbook ? I mean think about all the money and time put in the last 10 years for ipad..and place those into mac team..i bet we could have a macbook with ipados and macos..no need for an clone mac ipad
Every cheers i heard from ipados is when they copy features from mac to ipad
Not vice versa when we hear we can have ios apps to mac..

So a ToasterRefrigerator in Tim Cook's words? Each hardware design has it's place/ use. A lot of people will have both. I intend to continue with a MacBook and iPad, I won't be buying a type cover as I won't want to use my iPad for that, but for those that do it's there as an option.

Apple is working on an iPad keyboard that includes a built-in trackpad, reports The Information, citing sources with knowledge of Apple's plans.

Apple has reportedly been experimenting with trackpads for the iPad for a "number of years." Some of the prototypes have featured capacitive keys, though it is not known if this feature is in the finished product. The Information's source says that the keyboard will be made from materials similar to those in Apple's current Smart Keyboard Folio designed for the iPad Pro.

Apple is preparing the keyboard for mass production at the current time, and is expected to release the new accessory alongside the next version of the iPad Pro. Current rumors suggest the iPad Pro could be refreshed as soon as March, and Apple is expected to hold a March event (perhaps on March 31) to announce new devices.

If Apple does indeed unveil a new iPad Pro in March, we could see the rumored keyboard released at the same time. Up until now, all of Apple's Smart Keyboards designed for use with iPads have only featured standard keyboard keys. A version with a trackpad would need to be significantly overhauled to make space for the trackpad design.

Back in January, Taiwanese site DigiTimes said that Apple is working on a Smart Keyboard with backlit keys and scissor switches, so it's possible that the upcoming Smart Keyboard with trackpad will also have these features.

These could be used as development machines for Arm powered Macs. Devs would get a ARM 10.16 install file to put on their iPad Pro at WWDC2020, if it's not cancelled, and they'll have a year to start porting their apps before the 2021 launch.

I can see it now

the iPad is gonna kill sales of MacBooks and MacBook pro's

Why pay huge amounts of money for a MacBook Pro when 5mm ARM iPads are just as powerful and same cost as a MacBook and half the cost of a MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro was originally intended for professional users with professional needs. Those users still exist but I suspect many (if not most) MBPs are bought by people who could easily switch to an iPad Pro and this keyboard with very little disruption to their user experience. I have a 2019 MBP but it MAY be my last one at the rate the iPad Pro is evolving.

Based on what? It can’t run real apps so for that no it isn’t. It’s also more expensive for less power that can do similar tasks with cellular options

And they’re going to release AirPower tomorrow.
And they’re going to lower the HomePod’s price to $99.99.
And they’re going to release a new iMac with a 32 inch screen.
And they’re going to start including the Pro stand with every product.
I like listing things that would never happen
I know, right? It seems like this site is always posting all these Mac rumors.
