As mentioned above, I think this is a load of sh**. As cool as the iPhone 4 was its antenna issues left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Why model your new new flagship phone after a previous failure. They might have fixed the antenna issue but people will still correlate that flaw with the antenna issues. Apple is smarter than that. MacRumors needs to stop posting every little scrap of info they find on the internet, rumor forum or not just wait 4 hours.

What's up with Galaxy SII posts? People want NFC chips that bad? Are there any other hardware differences between 4S and SII?

ummmm, you start with the 4.3" kickass screen vs the old/tiny 3.5", how's that for a "difference"?

I prefer the crisp detailed graphics over the poor pixelated images on the sg2

That's rubbish. All of these sites are getting paid or being tricked by Apple spin doctors. I'm all for Apple keeping its products secret but I'm also for critical thinking. If you think they are going to risk halving their stock price with a rerelease of iPhone 4 then it's time for you to buy my Florida swampland.

I'd be happy to be wrong, just going on past form for Apple products and leaks and such.

Today is a sad day .. i am coming to terms with the fact that there will be no new iphone 5 design... and no new larger screen either.. instead they will give us more stuff to do on the already too small and cramped 3.5 inch scrreen..:(:(:(:(:(:( im not mad .. i am sad...:(:(:(

i wish i could port IOS5 to one of those pretty samsung phones with a 4" screen !! that would be great.. oh well guess i will just renew my love to my old trusty iphone4 cause we will be together another year

time is now...

look- i have a 3G. I dont care what they call it- its time. I dont care if its got two cans run by DOS connected with a 100' phone line- its time..... Just Do It! :apple:

I wish my failures turned into a best selling smartphone.

By increasing screen size, the increase volume inside the case of the phone. Shouldn't they increase the size of batteries?

And this is a question I've had for a year or two now...when are they improving batteries? Tech is getting far too power hungry for batteries nowadays and we see the skimping on features like these.

Yes, so the battery life should be the same or better. Plus, most of us who want a bigger screen don't care about a 4.3, 4.5 or 4.7 inch screen. We just want a nice 4 inch screen. That, with new battery tech and/or bigger battery would not affect battery life.

If there is no redesign today, Apple will market the iPhone 4s as an iPhone 5. unless another iPhone update is imminent.

also for the people that are getting upset with the people who are favoring redesign over specs... the reason is not because they want something new, or a new shape, it is because they want a thinner and lighter phone!!!!!! and maybe with a larger screen

Tired argument is tired.

Not everyone is wearing hipster skinny jeans. 4-4.5" phones fit in standard pockets without a problem.

I bet you can find pockets where even an iPhone 4 is fitting "barely". So that argument is right on. Not to mention, the more important argument is hand size, not pocket size. These are devices people are supposed to use in one hand and hand sizes did not grow in the last 4 years.

If that is the case it will be a very dull day, and I am sure this will hurt Apple as many folks held out buying a new phone in hopes that Apple has some new full featured phone up their sleeves. I will stick with my iPhone 4, not worth the headache to sell it and buy a new one only for minor changes.

This will be an Epic Fail if Apple only releases an iPhone 4S

not ideal, but I'm not sure if it will be "Epic" fail... i guess it depends if you are looking more forward to the new services (ie, Assistant) or a new form factor/design.

I think the average consumer will be attracted more to a new design, but although 18-months old, i'm still pretty happy with my iphone 4 design.

Either way I'm sure it will sell well.

.

What do you guys think is wrong with the current design that you feel is crucial for Apple to change it?

Is it because of the screen size?

I personally love the design, but I am on my fourth ip4 in just over a year. First one shattered on both sides from a 1.5' drop onto hardwood floors, second one's microphone went out, third one had a proximity sensor that didn't work at all.

I just want a redesign because I am sick of lugging around this sleak phone, wrapped in a ridiculous OtterBox because I don't want it to break.

but wats the point if your fingers block out 30% of the screen when you are plating a game :(:(:( it needs to be at least 4"

So outside of updating the OS, what here is revolutionary or special? A curved back?! No one has ever had a phone with a curved back before! Why didn't Apple think of that?! A big screen? I'm pretty sure that there are already phones introduced with screens this size. How long before we have 5.5" or 6" screens and you're carrying around a tablet in your pocket?

Again, tell me what is really NEW outside of the Android 4.0?

It looks like I may FINALLY get what I'm looking for, 64Gb and a camera that will work better in low light. An A5 will at least run some of those greedy games like Order and Chaos and RR2 (and yes they look better and run more smoothly on iPad 2 than on iP4 and Ipad 1). Oh and all the features of iOS 5.

Any my wife gets my iP4.

Anything else is a bonus.

I suspect Apple will save a different looking ip5/6 is for it's 'radical overhaul' to iOS 6 in 2012. They do it with MBP and MBA. But they will have to go some way to improve the look of the iP4 IMHO. Even the iPod doesn't look as good.

Whatever it is that's coming after this, we'll get an idea with iPad 3 possibly touting A6 chip (quad core CPU and GPU possibly?) and approaching proper notebook computing power maybe.

Not that most average users will really care.

"Transitional Product"

Nobody seems to be mentioning that during an earnings call, they announced a major "transitional product" to be announced in the Fall (I just looked at my calendar and it says it's Fall).

Does that not tell us that today will most likely be something more than a simple spec bump?

AAPL's stock price will tumble at the combination of a Jobs-less ho-hum announcement of a disappointing product update.

S2 is thinner and lighter, Screen size, Super AMOLED Plus display is better than the Retina IMO. :D

Yeah just worse resolution and way worse pixel density.

About battery life, battery technology isn't really up to Apple. They are using the best they can, just like anyone else. And battery tech isn't going in quantum leaps either.

I still can't believe Apple would wait 18 months just for a spec bump. Doesn't make sense, no matter how many rumors I read.

I believe the A5 chip in the iPhone is smaller than the iPad version - I thought I read somewhere Apple had issues fitting it in the smaller iPhone package. Could explain the delay....

Have you ever actually used the SG2? I would be willing to bet you haven't. That screen has gotten very good reviews. It may not be as sharp when viewing tiny text, but definitely is more vibrant.

Go read a review, or stop hanging out in your parents basement and go out and mess with the phone so you can make an informed comment instead of a retarded one.

Should read back at the ipad announcement threads and all the cry babies 'Apple FAILLLLLL,' 'worst device ever HAHAHAHA,' 'this is gonna kill apple!!!!!111' etc.. A lot of those accounts don't exist any more. Some of those people on this thread I see. Where's the ipad now? Oh right..
Hey now, I was here during that event (in another form) and that was perhaps the worst of the fail proclamations I have ever witnessed. Of course, I think the phrase "it's just a big iPod Touch" was far more ubiquitous than "fail" (or maybe equal?). Either way, its comical seeing now just how popular it is in sales, although I must admit, I expected more (and what I expected is slowly falling into place).

Of course, when it comes to this crowd, history will repeat itself over and over. Just take a look at that thread revolving around the first iPod unveiling. People were positive it was going to be a certifiable failure.

Funny how enthusiasts and fans are always so wrong, from sports to electronics.

Beauty goes beyond the skin .. its going to be a wonderful phone with A5, better camera and ios5 ... redesign won't make any difference apart from exciting your eyes for a few days.

I mean if apple put the same package from iphone 4s into a new design and call it iphone 5 next year .. would you buy it .. NO! .. you'd want hardware/software improvements .. which is what we are getting this year ... also A4 to A5 is a pretty huge ass spec bump

iphone 4S kicks Samsung galaxy s2 .. android looks ****** ... no matter what box you put it in
