Yes several people want a lower resolution less clear and crisp display that is larger. I assume they all have bad cataracts.

Yeah. Strange people. The screen and the resolution of the iPhone 4 is totally enough for a phone.

I am really hoping that there is an iPhone 5...why would we be waiting if it is a minor incremental update? Unless it is taking this long to get Assistant ready for prime time.

Remember back in 2007 when Apple totally surprised with the design of the original iPhone...it was nothing like anyone predicted. Why can't they do that again? I want a radical redesign and I hope Apple comes through for me!

Wow....

16 months later and we get the EXACT SAME PHONE with a better processor and a slightly better camera?

This isn't 2009 w/ the 3GS - Android is exploding and an iPhone 4S will not make people run to the Apple stores.

exactly, this is a bad move on apple's part, Android is running full steam ahead.

Remember the iPad 2 last minute rumors ?

all the last minute rumors surrounding the iPad 2 played down the spec so everyone was happy with what was actually launched. I expect it's much of the same today. Most people will be pleasantly surprised by the announcements I hope. Of course I am sitting on a 3GS cause I didn't like the iPhone 4 so I'm very much hoping for something a little different. Bigger would be nice but we just have to wait a while to see.

They also report that the teardrop "iPhone 5" design that we've seen for months is a prototype iPhone "which won't be available any time soon" and the iPhone 4S will have the same dimensions as the iPhone 4.
[/url]

Why do I get a feeling that this is a controlled rumor by Apple?

They said the same thing about the 3Gs (and I remember correctly them saying the same thing about the mock-ups and leaks for the brick-like iPhone 4. I remember reading a TON of posts of people saying that it was ugly and they wanted the same type of 3Gs look) and yet Apple didn't seem to suffer at all. Funny how all these people say they aren't going to buy it "if this" or "if that" yet the lines are still HUGE, the phones still sell-out, etc.

It's funny, mock-ups of the 5 come out and people say "Why change it, the iPhone 4 is a masterpiece! and that's ugly!!, I'm getting an Andriod" then rumors come out that it's a iPhone 4s type of update and people are saying "Why wait 16 months for an internal upgrade, this sucks, I'm getting an Android" Guess some people just aren't happy either way.

But the best part is that we all know that most people on here, post here and come here religiously are all going to be getting one or wanting one. I'd love to go back to the first day of iPhone posts and see how many of these people who say they aren't getting the iPhoneX actually got it and started the complaining all over again, just to end up here talking about how awesome the one in their hand is and how they aren't getting the new one. I bet the numbers would be staggering. The only iPhone I didn't like was the original (and had valid reasons). I went from a Blackberry (and various other smartphones at the time) to the original and didn't like it, so switched back to the BB. Once the apps and iOS got better I went to the iPhone again and haven't looked back yet. And like a sheep I'll be pre-ordering this one no matter what it's called or looks like haha

Ofc. But even if everyone who posted negative here did actually switch, it's at most 100 people if even that. :))))) We are talking about devices which sell in 8 digit numbers.

awesome if this is true...Just got the iphone 4 so I won't be tempted to get a new iphone now since it not tempting at all lol. Hopefully when my contract is up there will be an iphone that works on AWS

How about iMacs and Macbook Pro's etc???
They are getting hardware bumped all the time... What's the big deal?

Does iOS5 looks amazingly different than iOS4?
Is Lion a big change in OS X ?

I don't see why Apple has to change the looks of their products every upgrade. Except for the people who buy something because they wanna show they have 'the new stuff'.

i have been a mac guy for years and went thru the macbook pro changes and i agree with you ...we don't need a facelift every year...

but...

when it comes to phones there is a huge competition war and whould be upgraded every year....with all the hoopla over a bigger and better camera and faster chip...the screen should be bigger to see and use......
and this proximity sensor issue is still pissing me off....after replace 5 phones and eventually buying an app so i can use it has pushed me to my limits....the only thing that bothers me is i wont be able to sync my phone to my mac stuff so easily.

But since the 3GS remains the number 2 selling smartphone. So that pretty much destroys all the arguments that apple must make changes for changes sake.

For those thinking about getting the Galaxy S II instead of the 4S, I'm curious:

Is the choice a purely aesthetic one? If the A5 version in the iPhone turns out to be better than what the Galaxy S II has will you regret your choice to move to that phone? Or will you be happy because you enjoy the aesthetic of the S2 better?

And what about iOS 5?

I say this without mockery or sarcasm, I'm truly curious.

Frankly, for me its all about the screen. I think all the internal upgrades they plan on making would be great, and i'm sure the 4S will be an amazing phone, but i have recently fallen in love with the large screens on the android phones. People say droids are bricks but phones like the galaxy s ii and the upcoming nexus prime (supposedly) are changing that

Looks like I've been right all the way along. It was inevitable. The redesigned iPhone 5 was a prototype that will probably never be released.

iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6.

Where are you confused? The "s" phones show a pattern of an upgrade while maintaining same case design. More time to make more money before investing in molds for next gen phones.

Where r YOU confused? Your 5 would be 6 just like the 4 was 4 and not 3

I've had an S2 as well as an IP4 for the last few months and it's a great phone, camera is spectacular and the screen looks fantastic, it's also incredibly fast.

However, for me, Android is not great, the only things I like over iOS is going to be fixed in iOS5.

If you're happy with Android it's a truly great phone

Why are people convinced there won't be two phones introduced? Considering that the iPhone accounts for half of Apple's revenue it is by far the most important product the company has. And considering there are two versions of the air, three different sized MacBook Pros and two different iMacs, two different form factors for the phone doesn't seem like a stretch. Just look at the arguments from people about screen size. Apple might let people have a little choice in the matter.

Naming the new phone the 4S makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The new phone will be a big update on the previous version and deserves to be called the 5. From a marketing perspective calling it the 4S is really, really bad and Apple has not shown themselves to be that tone-deaf.

By selling an updated 4 and a new 5 with a bigger screen that will give consumers a choice. Plus it would allow Apple to charge a premium for the 5, something Apple loves to do. It would also make the naming of the 4S make perfect sense. By strategically leaking info about the 4S they were mostly able to get people off the scent of the 5. At least that is my theory.

Looks like an Iphone 4S and an Iphone 5 today!!

Copy and pasted from 9 to 5 Mac:

Since it's the morning of, I will spill the beans.

The iPhone 5 is a new device and looks just like to drawings above. It is the new luxury phone and comes only in a 64GB model for $499. It is a GSM exclusive device, so in the US will run only on ATT and it is only 3G in order to keep it slim and the battery life long. The back cover is liquid metal and is radio transparent which also allows for wireless inductive charging as well. It will not be available till November 18th.

Also, hard candy cases already has BOTH iphone 4s and iphone 5 cases on their website!!

... As cool as the iPhone 4 was its antenna issues left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Why model your new new flagship phone after a previous failure. They might have fixed the antenna issue but people will still correlate that flaw with the antenna issues. Apple is smarter than that..

a sour taste only if you are a smartphone enthusiast... the average joe consumer probably didn't even know or care, it was a success ... the sales figures says it all.

.

So, most people I know look forward to and purchase computers when they're refreshed with faster processors, better graphics card, more memory, etc. Even though they look the same as their predecessor.

With that in mind, I find it interesting that what's inside the new iPhone doesn't matter. Most of you want eye candy over function. Or, is my observation wrong?

OS is more valuable to me than a 0.5" screen upgrade. Galaxy SII can be as thin as it want's, it will never feel as well built and classy as an iPhone 4.

but wats the point if your fingers block out 30% of the screen when you are plating a game :(:(:( it needs to be at least 4"

How big are your fingers?!

Looking at my iPhone four with my thumbs where most virtual sticks, buttons will be I estimate my thumbs cover no more than 10% of the screen. So if the screen were made 4" that would be reduced to what? Off the top of my head maths here, 7%.

So you get to see an extra 3% of the screen. Not that big a deal really. Besides, if you're playing on an Android, what games are you playing exactly?! ;)

Wow - a little disappointed if the "teardrop 5" doesn't materialize this trip. I'm still pretty happy with the 4, so unless Assistant is non-functional or severely hamstrung on the A4, I'll be waiting for the next one. Probably. Unless I don't.

A lot of financial sites are predicting record sales for the new iPhone. But if this is true, a 4S and not a 5 is coming, I don't know if that will be true. I mean, they will sell a crapload, don't get me wrong. But since a lot of iPhone sales are existing iPhone people who want the latest and greatest, I think a number of them will not want a "bump" upgrade and will wait for 5, especially if its within 6 months from now.
