LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Apple have dropped the ball.

Hello Nexus Prime, what a gorgeous 4.5" screen you have.

I realize a lot of people have been waiting to upgrade to a new iPhone. But is locking in to another two year contract on the same crummy network really worth it? The phones themselves (including android and others) provide so many fantastic capabilities, the weakest link is still the awful coverage and speeds of the networks.

Just sell it then

iPhone 5 please.

I want to upgrade from my 3GS. I don't want a freaking 4GS and make a 2 year contract to see how next year the major freaking redesign is coming.

Just upgrade now ($200) and then sell it in a year ($450). Take the additional $250 to pay for a factory unlocked phone at $700 (taxes included). Total cost next year is about $450, plus you have a factory unlocked phone.

To offset the cost, just save $20 a month this year and then next year the phone will seem to be the same price as what you paid this year.

It really is that simple.

What do you guys think is wrong with the current design that you feel is crucial for Apple to change it?

Is it because of the screen size?

If you don't want it, don't buy it! I don't think Apple ever signed a contract with you saying they were obligated to release a new iPhone with a different case design just in time for you to upgrade. Buy a used iPhone 4 on eBay after the announcement and save your upgrade for next year.

Mad

If Apple only releases an iPhone 4S, I'll be so mad I'll buy one as soon as I can!!!!!!!!

I will be disappointed if the 4S rumors are true and there is not a bigger screen but TBH if the new pricing rumors are true (99$ for 16GB) I will definitely buy it

I hope this rumor is the one that comes true...

  • I like the design of the iPhone 4, it's a very sleek looking device.
  • While a larger screen would be nice, the mockup we've been seeing of the iPhone 5 and it's tear drop design is quite frankly, ugly.
  • I'm more concerned about the A5 Dual-Core Processor, better Camera, and iOS 5 features, and 64GB capacity.
  • People who complain about the durability of the glass front and back need to start using a case. If you're the kind of person that drops your phone... then buying a case should be a no brainer.

All in all, I'm excited!

I really think we're getting an Iphone 5 and a 4s. Which would be why there are so many contradictions.

i hope.

I'm finding it difficult to believe that they'd release iOS 5 without an iPhone 5, but I'm sure somebody will shoot down that theory. While I'm at it, I may as well say that I think the 4S will be a moderately updated version of the iPhone 4, with an A5 chip and things so that it can run the Siri Assistant, that will sell alongside the iPhone 5 for less.

what's the point of buying such a "very sleek looking device" if you have to cover it up with a case in order to protect it from getting destroyed?

How about iMacs and Macbook Pro's etc???
They are getting hardware bumped all the time... What's the big deal?

Does iOS5 looks amazingly different than iOS4?
Is Lion a big change in OS X ?

I don't see why Apple has to change the looks of their products every upgrade. Except for the people who buy something because they wanna show they have 'the new stuff'.

i have been a mac guy for years and went thru the macbook pro changes and i agree with you ...we don't need a facelift every year...

but...

when it comes to phones there is a huge competition war and whould be upgraded every year....with all the hoopla over a bigger and better camera and faster chip...the screen should be bigger to see and use......
and this proximity sensor issue is still pissing me off....after replace 5 phones and eventually buying an app so i can use it has pushed me to my limits....the only thing that bothers me is i wont be able to sync my phone to my mac stuff so easily.

iPhone 1 = original announcement = Announced by Steve Jobs
iPhone 3G = major redesign = Announced by Steve Jobs
iPhone 3GS = evolutionary spec upgrade = Announced by Phil Schiller
iPhone 4 = major redesign = Announced by Steve Jobs
iPhone 4S = evolutionary spec upgrade = Announced by Tim Cook/Phil Schiller

Just saying.

Thing is though, the 3G wasn't really a major redesign. It was a new shape, sure, but it only added 3G and GPS. The 3GS had much more new stuff - more RAM, faster processor, compass, video recording, better still camera etc. So I don't think your list works out.

I own both android and iphone devices, so I'm not coming from one side, but a lot of you on here seem uneducated and narrow minded. Just sayin. You guys hate on the competitor's devices with arguments not backed by much proof. Someone was talking about battery life and form factor being affected because of the microsd slot. Seriously people, educate yourselves.

re original article

this seems the most realistic prediction of what will be announced

dissapointing - but accepted

aapl really needs to go bigger on the ip4 screens though

the samsung / htc phones coming out looking good - though on steroids

Um, yes. Screen size. Not to mention a microSD card slot.

Tony

Screen size is subjective. If you want a larger screen than maybe the SII is a better phone for you. I, however, do _not_ want a larger screen so I'm glad the larger iPhone screen rumors have disappeared.

Not everyone wants a larger screen - not everyone wants a smaller one either.

I support your theory.
