Wonder if and when they release a new display if it will feature extra inputs? Need at least one HDMI so I also can use the display for console gaming.

I expect the display to be like the discontinued Thunderbolt Display with the exception the connector is now TB3 as opposed to TB2. So no other video/audio input options.

Exactly and because TB3 uses the USB-C connecter there will not be a separate power connector like the previous Thunderbolt display.

I would suggest getting a different display instead of or in addition to the Apple display. You can never have too much screen real estate.

I literally laughed out loud when I read that....

I really don't understand why Apple have to be so secretive about the Mac book Pro release. I would like to buy a new Mac as it would help my work, BUT how am I to plan getting one when I don't even know when its being released?

If Apple care that much about their customer base, why not give them the information they obviously have been dying to hear all year? I know of friends and family that have given up waiting and have bought a windows machine for this reason alone. I honestly don't have an issue with waiting but to be waiting and nothing being said at the conventions, I mean how do you expect people to plan their lives. I still have to work, guess I'll be putting my money towards a new windows machine myself!

new rMBP. Great October! But, which year?

Same sources said 2015, last year.

"There will be an update in October" is beginning to sound a lot like "We have always been at war with Eastasia"; something you tell the proles to keep us in line.

The report makes it nearly certain that the focus of Apple's just-announced September 7 media event will be on the iPhone 7 and the second-generation Apple Watch, the latter of which has now been confirmed for the event. Apple will also provide updates about its software, including iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3, and tvOS 10.

The report got that part right [what would be announced then]
One would just assume the other part is also accurate [the Mac update on Oct]

Listen up, the headphone jack is here to say, we all know it is a fact that the audio coming from a headphone jack is superior, on all these mobile device, Bluetooth audio is just STILL NOT ever going to be close.

As a music producer/ composer and recording artist, wireless audio on these devices = death.

Perhaps current gen Bluetooth - EVER is a silly thing to say. Audio bandwidth is Tiny even uncompressed 48khz. Future wireless tech will more than compensate.

Oh and you still have a jack on a lighting adaptor. Makes no difference at all just leave the adaptor on your headphones

So if they removed the headphone jack on the phone, you think they will do it on the laptop too?
I doubt it I think it stays, and I don't think they will offer a lightning port either.

They may offer a USB to lightning adapter for $9.99, but I don't think they will make a design decision in a $2K laptop based on the $29 earbuds they gave away for free with the iPhone.

There were specific reasons in the iPhone to remove it, I don't think those exist in laptops but I've been wrong before and will many times in the future.

I don't think I've ever seen a serious music producer/composer/artist actually use a 3.5mm jack. 1/4" TRS, toslink, XLR, MIDI, even USB sure but not 3.5 mm.

Really wanting to purchase a new Mac for my business, but the lack of updates is seriously wearing me down and making me contemplate switching to windows. I wanted to get a brand new Mac Pro but it seems Apple doesn't want my money since its been 1000 days since they have updated it. I would settle for a new iMac if it could outperform the current Mac Pro. I do a lot of complicated CG and animation and need as much power as possible. I love OS X and would hate to have to switch all my files over to a new OS, but every day without an official update brings me closer to facing that potential situation. :(

They released an article about Kaby Lake 2 weeks ago - https://www.macrumors.com/2016/07/21/intel-begins-shipping-kaby-lake-processors/

As for LG, if you are referring to the 38UC39, that is a curved sRGB display. Apple doesn't do curved and they don't do sRGB anymore now that they have moved to P3. So this will not serve as the core of a new 5K display (especially since it's a 4K monitor. :) ).

No LG let slip and then took it down they have a flat 5k monitor coming. It was on one of those generic rumor sites but it referenced Apple since they are sourcing LG this time around.

The current 5K iMac uses an LG Display. So it is no surprise at all that rumored new Thunderbolt display that is based on the same display as the iMac would also use an LG display.

When are Apples fiscal quarters? I read Q3 ends in June and Q4 ends in September. Or does it mean the last Quarter of 2016 i.e. October - December?

If it doesn't come out in Oct or Nov I'm getting a XPS 15 instead.

I'm starting to think we'll see the update next Wednesday as it doesn't make a lot of sense to release macOS Sierra on that date and then 3-4 weeks later release new Macs with it. True, macOS updates are quite painless and easy, but would Apple want customers to buy a new model and immediately have to update the OS as soon as they unbox it?

In such a scenario, we would not have an event to announce them, but instead a combination of a formal press release from Apple and the lifting of NDAs for media sites who have had the machines for a couple of weeks now to publish their reviews so there is sufficient "buzz" to let those who have been waiting know they're now available and what they entail.

Yes but there is no single stream 5k as of yet. I don't know how they would do it even if these ship with Kaby Lake as there is still no DP 1.3 support yet.

If I had a to guess Apple will use a custom chip similar to the one used in the current iMac to combine the two DisplayPort 1.2 channels into a single display. TB3 will support two 4K monitors at 60Hz, my guess is the new Thunderbolt Display will use both of those channels, essentially MST over a single TB3 cable.

They could also have a video card in the Thunderbolt Display...

I am sure Apple can come up with a solution that will work.

Thunderbolt 3 can handle two DP1.2 streams over a single cable so it would allow for a 5K external Apple display to be driven at 60Hz by a single TB3 port. So assuming all the hardware is updated to TB3, that would leave one port free on the iMac and MacBook Pro for peripherals and allow an Mac Pro to drive multiple displays while still having multiple TB3 ports left for peripherals.

Apple's fiscal quarters aren't the same as calendar quarters.

In Apple financial terms, Q1 begins in October of the previous year and ends in December. For instance, October 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016 is called Q1/2017 for Apple fiscal material.

When Apple talks about product releases, they will typically use terms like "2nd half" or "3rd quarter". In these instances, they are using the calendar quarter as the base line. So "2nd half" would mean July-Dec and "3rd quarter" would mean July-Sep.

When analysts talk about rumored product releases, they typically use the calendar quarter basis as well.

BestBuy has an interesting iMac machine listed. Available for Wednesday delivery. Not available in any local stores.
7th gen i7 is what caught my eye.
---Update
They've updated the listing to 6th generation.

Dell XPS 15 is getting a lot of mention these days so I thought I should check that out.

My god, what an ugly looking thing. :( The build quality doesn't look nice at all, and then on top of that I would need to run Windows 10. Oy. OSX is such a nicer interface to look at, and if I'm going to be staring at an interface for hours and hours I want it to be something beautiful and refined. OSX has a lot of nice artistic touches. I have to use Windows 10 at work and it is quite an unpleasant experience. It can get stuff done certainly, but for me OSX and the Apple build quality are the reasons I stick with this company. The UNIX underneath is wonderful.
