I really don't see this happening, not if Thunderbolt 3 will be included, as, that requires the Intel processor that has just been released, perhaps we will see other changes, but, TB3 won't be in laptops b4 next year.

Now, there is a new processor that could be put in the Mac Pro, so, we may see an update for the Mac Pro including TB3 late Q4 this year.

In any case, we probably won't see an event for another month after the iPhone event.

Dell and Lenovo have had TB3 in their laptops for the best part of a year. The XPS 15 I am writing this post on has one. I honestly fail to see why Apple haven't been able to release this, especially as it is using a USB-C port....

I'm ambivalent over the 5K monitor. I have 2 iMacs and they are awesome, I would love to have a 5K matching screen. However, I think the only way that they can do this is to put the GPU in the display.

I don't want to have a display that I can't upgrade the GPU on. My cMP is a Powerhouse because I can replace the GPU and use the same display. But as much as I want a 5K display, I don't think I want one with built in graphics.

I think ambivalent isn't the word you're looking for if you like the idea of a 5k display

Pishh, 16K

Oh yeaaaaaaahhhh moar pwr!!

Flipping heck!! Some Mac rumours!! Nice to hear about updated iMacs and Airs, although the last I read any 5k monitor with GPU inside rumour was squashed?

Nice to hear another rumour about the new MacBook Pro though, is the end of the year when Kaby Lake laptops will be appearing?? Kinda excited to see what Apple launch.

I wonder if this opens the possibility of an additional Apple event this year. This is too significant of an update to not. New MacBooks and Apple watches? Who's with me!?

... Apple don't do 'events' for Mac's refreshes only do they ?, i.e. if they don't coincide with WWDC ?

Be a bit dull to all but the relative few that are interested and in the market for new Mac hardware already .... :)

All they need to do to the Air is update to Retina screen and add USB-C.

I REALLY hope they don't update the keyboard to the plastic-ey/shallow/crap keyboard found on the new Macbooks.

I'm 100% with you, but not optimistic at all. I hated the new Retina MacBook's keyboard, and the loss of Magsafe was frankly just irritating as well. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and this new MacBook Pro won't have a bunch of sh*tty compromises just for the sake of thin-ness.

The new MacBook Airs will likely be new MacBooks, although it's not surprising that they would want to upgrade MacBook Airs to include the TB3 ports since they are still selling them.

Dang it! I JUST ordered a MBP to replace my aging Air. (Getting some nice Beats headphones with it) but now I wish I would have waited a bit. Oh well.

Yea apparently they utilize an additional chip. Kaby lake is said to not require this. I wager these macs are Skylake though. Still haven't utilized tb3 on my XPS 13 :p

Apple is planning to refresh its Mac lineup, including the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, as early as October, according to Bloomberg. The report also claims Apple is working on a standalone 5K display in partnership with LG Electronics, while it plans to update iMac models with an option for new graphics chips from AMD.

The report reiterates that the new MacBook Pro will be thinner and include an OLED-based touchscreen strip along the top of the flatter keyboard, which will present functions that dynamically fit the current task or application, as well as integrate Touch ID to enable users to quickly log in using their fingerprint.Apple has reportedly named the feature "Dynamic Function Row" internally, but its official name may differ when announced.

The tweaked MacBook Air models, meanwhile, are said to include multipurpose USB-C ports, which makes the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3 a possibility. No other details were shared about the planned MacBook Air and iMac refreshes.

Apple's plans to work with LG on a standalone 5K display surface two months after it discontinued the five-year-old Thunderbolt Display. It remains unclear if the monitor will be based upon the Retina 5K iMac, and it is also unclear if the report's broad late 2016 timeframe for "some of the new Mac products" includes the display.

The report makes it nearly certain that the focus of Apple's just-announced September 7 media event will be on the iPhone 7 and the second-generation Apple Watch, the latter of which has now been confirmed for the event. Apple will also provide updates about its software, including iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3, and tvOS 10.

Finally, I've been waiting to upgrade my Macbook pro 2011 to improve my graphics/video editing productivity.
Maybe an iMac or Macbook Pro with a new display.

And also my iPhone 4. (Ouch.)

This is going to be an expensive holiday.

Let's think of this as an investment.

Small production, boutique-like machines like the Pro are more easily kept secret.

My guess, we'll get a completely redesigned, humble-pied no-nonsense Mac Pro early next year.
It's possible. It's not like they haven't done that secret update announcement.

I tried 5k iMacs 6 months ago...they were burning hot and stunk of melting plastic. The smell went away when I upped the fan speed but I didn't like a custom solution like that. I hope apple engineers pay attention to that.

Well, that's about it for the Kaby Lake rumours. So sad - the long awaited rMBP will be outdated within 3 months...
I do wonder whether the MacBook Air refresh will feature Kaby Lake as the 15 W chips are shipping to customers.
No the 13" rMBP won't be outdated in 3 months. The 28W Kaby Lake chip likely will only start shipping in early 2017, and if Skylake is any indication, vendors would be wise not to rush out the new chips. Kaby Lake brings only marginal improvements, anyway, particularly for notebooks that have discrete GPUs, which the 15" would have.

The 12" MacBook doesn't have the thermal capacity to support the separate controller needed to power a TB 3 port. Obviously the MacBook Pros and Airs have not been updated in over a year, so Apple was holding off for the major refresh.

Well, it looks like we're finally starting to get out of the nearly year long drought of new hardware. New iPhones, Macs, iPads and Watches. I kinda wish they would spread these out a little throughout the year but heh, at least their coming.

Yes, TB3 is currently handled via a separate Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller that can be paired with Skylake, Broadwell or Haswell-E (amongst others). The 27" iMac is already on Skylake and the 21" will assuredly be updated to Skylake with the next refresh as will the MacBook Pros, so they will all gain TB3 and USB-C via an Alpine Ridge TB3/USB-C controller.

The next MBP should go back to being a pro-machine. That means, the latest Intel CPU (Kabby Lake), upgradable memory, upgradable storage (at least the ability to upgrade without ungluing components). The screen should have an OLED option (HP and Lenovo seem to be able to do it).

Unless you want a Core m-equipped MacBook Pro, they can't release a Kaby Lake version before 2017. Their design philosophy has changed, so don't expect any upgradability. As for OLED, the 2017 iPhone will get priority over the Mac for whatever supply Apple is able to procure.

A touch OLED bar. That sounds interesting/gimmick/stupid. Guess will have to see implementation. I need a new iMac so they better be good
