I'd like to see a dual mode device that would allow me to switch between CDMA or GSM so I can select the carrier that gives me the best service or price.

Ditto. Why must I choose between CDMA and GSM at the time that I buy the hardware? The iPad has plenty of room to support both. Moreover, the GSM should support frequencies for ATT/Spring/T-mobile.

I'm just waiting to jump ships. AT&T is a just painful!

If AT&T is smart, they'll do this...because if Verizon offers a reasonably priced unlimited plan, I'm bailing on AT&T for Verizon for the iPad 2.

I think I would prefer an lte iPad. I didn't like 3g on at&t because it was pretty slow.

Can't wait to use the HotSpot option from my Verizon iPhone 5 with my iPad 2! Gee I love numbers! :D

Do they multiply? Dos this make you an Apple 10? :D

Anyway, there was no word mentioned on the iPad at all today... i wonder if the iPad Event realy is on Feb. 1th and Preorder starts on Feb. 3ed. ..this would prittymuch mean Verizon iPad, yes.
But if there is no Verizon iPad comming... i bet the new gen gets anounced at least two weeks later, around Feb 17th, to not stell the iPhones thunder.

Osborned...

I don't think he was supposed to say this.

Apple sure doesn't like it when people comment on unannounced products. I'm predicting an angry phone call from Steve shortly.

Way to go moron, you just Osborned the current iPad and even the version you guys sell with the Mifi...

I swear... People just can't keep their mouths shut...

Still don't get the big allure of the 3G plans ... I just tether to use my iPad where I can't find wifi. If its something so fast that the 10 seconds to turn on tethering isn't worth it then its likely something I can do on my phone...

Pretty much the end of the AT&T 3G iPad.

Who would buy an ATT model assuming the Verizon model is the same price per month and acts as a wifi hot spot?

You're assuming AT&T will refuse to "up" its game.

Competition of this sort can be pro-consumer...Let's hope it turns out that way.

If Apple wanted a device capable of handling all of the three connections, the iPad would be it. Make it agnostic, able to do wifi, CDMA and GSM, and all without a SIMM.

That would rock the world, farther...

I like your thinking, but I seriously doubt Apple would do that. Besides, wouldn't that require a bit of hardware redesigning? I guess I'll eat my words later on, but I'm just saying.

When is the iPad 2 coming out anyway? I would think they'd hold off on making a CDMA gen 1 iPad, but guess not.

I agree, there should be plenty of room in there for a dual band chip, or individual chips.

Why would anyone want Verizon's slow iPad 3G vs. AT&T's faster iPad 3G???

If they live where I live they would. AT&T doesn't even provide 3G coverage where I live. Verizon does. I've had both AT&T and Verizon. (this is mainly due to the fact that they are the only providers where I live) Say what you want about Verizon but it's way more reliable/advanced here.

Uh guys how about ditching both and getting a LTE iPad?

Well I'm hoping LTE will be compatible between carriers. If so this whole CDMA/GSM stuff goes away.

Is there such a thing as too much good tech news in one day?? I don't think so. Another great move by VZ!!! Now my wait is over and I can get an IPad and Iphone.

I'm totally all over this news! Living in AT&T blank area, I've already got an android crapo phone on contract, but I've been wanting an iPad, and waiting for version 2. Now I can get version 2 AND have it on Verizon as well.

Francis Shammo, now there's a name to initiate more school playground fist-fights than anything else I can imagine!

Tomorrow night CES is going to trot out Steven Ballmer so once again he can try to find his belly button using a keyboard-free device. Have your pop corn ready!

If you consider that G3 or no G3 makes a difference of 100$ wen it comes to the price we pay... they are not going to raise that, so why wast monney on Apples part to add something that only matters in the USA anyway?

I´ed rather see them drop the price 50-100$ (making the 32GB iPad the entery Model for 499$).

I love how everyone of these news groups are now jumping in and claiming things without any proof. It would be one thing if they just say they are speculating but they all make it sound like they have direct knowledge of it because they all want to be the first to say it. Sad.
