So would it be possible to tether the iPad with the iPhone using this "Personal Hotspot" if it is indeed coming in iOS 4.3?
If so, I think the heavens would open up.
GIVE ME iPad 2!!!
Also, the CDMA iPad he is referring to must be iPad 2, it would be incredibly stupid of Apple to release a current gen iPad with a CDMA chip in it when they are about to release a completely new one.
iPad has 10 hours of battery life with constant use, but the iPhone it is linked to would not (especially when running as a hotspot). Also, not all iPad customers have an iPhone.
The coolest thing would be an iPad-2 that allowed a-la-carte service to AT&T _or_ Verizon and allowed me to pick the carrier when signing up so I could choose the one with the best coverage for my location.
Even cooler would be if I could just link the data plan to my existing smartphone data plan and just pay an extra $X per month to get both devices - kinda like hooking 2 computers to the same cable modem at home or like sharing voice minutes in a family plan.
Best would be all of the above with an affordable unlimited data option.
I wonder what the data-rate difference is where I live. AT&T has less nationwide coverage than Verizon, but I keep hearing that where AT&T has good coverage they are MUCH faster. I live where AT&T has good coverage, but I sometimes travel to where their coverage blows (Idaho Falls area).
Anyway, an iPad that would let me pick the carrier when I sign up for service (i.e.: when I am getting ready to go on vacation) would be awesome. Anybody have data speed comparisons of AT&T vs. Verizon in markets where both have "full-bar" coverage?
