And if you think the WalMart greeter is pointless, think again. The Wal-Mart greeter was actually developed strategically to slow you down as you walk into the store. Most people miss the first 30 feet of walking into the store because they are simply moving too fast when they enter. The Wal-Mart greeter is there to slow you down and thus allowing for that 30 feet to be used to sell you stuff.

They had that at ASDA in the UK as well. I always felt quite disgusted by the idea that a company pays someone minimum wage to say "Welcome at our store, Sir". Like prostitution really when you think about it.

i dont like apple stores personally

too empty

the one near me just remodeled. used to have a software and accessory section that was decent. they have removed it for the most part and added more demo units

not my style

glass stairs.....ummm...upskirt shots?

What better way to try out the built-in iSights? ;)

I will give credit to Apple for the building designs, they are very impressive. I just hope they don't overdo it with too many stores. But so far it seems to be working for them...

"Welcome to our house of ill repute, sir. May I take your....." :p

But seriously, how is a greeter any different than a stockboy or any other low-level position? They all have job functions, the only difference is the greeter uses their voice and their (hopefully) pleasant demeanor. Would you rather have a robotic voice greet you instead? ;)

We'd rather not be patronised in the stores we patronise. They have greeters at PC World, too. Never fails to put a scowl on your face.

I wonder if they need a Quantity Surveyor for all these new stores???

(hopes so :p)

I'm almost surprised there's not a floor to ceiling Steve Jobs portrait, watching over all....

^^^ lmfao I love this post!!!!

And to know where all your money goes when you buy Apple, possibly look here:

If you think about it, it's got to cost a pretty penny for all this razzamatazz and it's got to come from some where!

Apple is an iconic brand so i don't see why they wouldn't build iconic structures. Apple stores mimic apple products

And where does your $320 go after you buy Windows 7 Ultimate Edition that ships on a 10 cent CD?

Inquiring minds want to know.

If you think you're geting ripped off, then don't buy the products. Simple.

Don't deprive the trolls of their only joy in life: wailing and gnashing their teeth about Apple.

"Some where?"
"Undertood?"

Grammar much?

youre kidding right?

why not demonize video games, cds, and dvds as well?

I'm not demonizing anything, I'm just responding to macshill's tired point about Apple's overpriced products and what they do with all that ill-gotten cash.

And they also removed all stools and chairs so you have no choice but to stand. I hate this as I find it very uncomfortable to try to stand around and try out a new iMac or laptop. They also removed the training area. I hate the new store.

Apple has to move to huge up-scale store to counter Microsoft's recent plan to copy the Apple mall store and locate them next door to existing Apple stores.

Microsoft simply can't build a huge high visibility store next to an Apple flagship retail store. Yes they have the money but it would be pointless, who would walk into a MS store just to see what Windows is like? Everyone already knows. Microsoft might get people into a mall store but not to drive or take subway to an MS store.

I'm sure Miicrosoft's plan was not to sell products next door to Apple but just to copy the store so as to make it look no-longer "special". Their plan was good: put in 100 crappy stores that look like Apple stores so Apple looks like one of those 100 crappy stores. It would have worked it Apple had not decided to simply upscale and move out of the shopping mall.

Looks pretty sweet! Hopefully can take a trip out to NY next year and visit a few of these stores :)

Good point.

Although, rumor has it, that MS has just made a substantial offer to buy out the lease

from "Ollie's, next door.:)

When it comes to these iconic stores as Apple likes to say, I will start with the West side store ... Apple proclaims how eco friendly it is supposed to be yet opens a store like this that says nothing eco friendly and plenty of power wastage in lighting, heating & cooling.

Mixed messages and not necessarily a great way to project your brand.
