I'm interested for two reasons: having two apps running side by side (which a MacBook or Air 2 can do) but also for taking hand-written notes. As a lefty, no matter what app I try or stylus I try (including the $80 Jot stylus), none of the palm-rejection works very well. I need to be able to lay my hand on the screen in order to write. I'm sick of carrying notebooks and paper around in my backpack.

This is the key for me - note taking and marking up PDF Board papers. Better MS WOrd integration will mean I can edit reports on the iPad and the laptop wont leave the desk.

Its more of a gov't holiday in most places. I think its a little distasteful myself but they are free to do as they please. An 11:10 opening might have be a good idea.
Who cares? Are stores supposed to close? I wouldn't care if they released it on 9/11. Why? It's just a day.

Nobody's mentioned how many iPad Pros are going to be available. I heard somewhere it's going to be harder to get one of these than anything else released this year. AND THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING.
What a disastrous year for Apple retail product launches.

  • No stock available on launch day - watch, MacBook, iPhone 6s
    • I bought my MacBook at a reseller weeks after launch, because the Apple Store could only offer me 'order online', and the reseller not only had stock, but sold it to me at the advertised 10% off all Macs - including the new release MacBook. Now that was a customer experience.
  • No iPhone 6s pre-orders.
  • Expedited shipping arriving after in-store pickup becomes available for tv4 (damned if you do, damned if you don't, Apple).

Thoroughly unimpressive changes to Apple Stores and an online store where you have to guess what product line an accessory might associated with before you can find the accessory!

SOMEBODY has to be asking whether Ahrents is going set the record for shortest time in the Retail seat. Everybody loves her and wants her to succeed, but so far… not making any friends.
Apple should be promoting from within. Trust your employees. The history of high-profile hires is getting grimmer by the minute.

I sadly agree.

Combine her with Iovine, not to mention her predecessor, and Cook has shown poor judgment in hiring. Another big difference between him and Steve Jobs.

You are probably being sarcastic, which is fine. But, you really miss the point.

Desktops are the best productivity device when you are at your desK/office/workstation. Laptops are the best productivity device when you are mobile and away from your desk. That's the reason so many people love their laptops. We often need to be productivity when away from our office or home. Also, you can connect your laptop to a monitor at your office, and completely duplicate the desktop experience. So, a laptop can afford you the best of both worlds.

None of the above applies to tablets.

I'm not beimg sarcastic. Laptops suck. I really hate them and would never buy one. iMac please.

Hmmm I'm stating to get a bit uneasy about a November 12 launch date with no official word. Really thought we would of heard something by now.
Well if they do launch it on the 11th or 12th they should probably have some type of announcement a week before. So either tomorrow or Thursday this week?

For starters, why do people sit in coffee shops with computers anyway?

Its honestly not something I do, but I can get why. It's a "change" of scenary for a lot of people. Sitting and writing on your computer can be quite a boring activity when you do it constantly, especially if you do it in the exact same space every time.

So why not go out? get some 'fresh air', have some coffee, sit on some comfy chairs, and continue to read/work in a place thats nicely decorated, playing some music, and can make some great coffees.

Oh, and did I mention they have comfy chairs.

who will use this device

I've been using The galaxy 12.2 android tablet for awhile. It's great for PDF's, watching movies, typing, and getting real work done. I was happy with my original ipad, but will gladly upgrade for the larger screen and pen interface. I work in the field and this will be awesome for what I do (sketching homes, taking notes, pictures, searching for home sales, etc). Also looking forward to using it for education purposes (reading manuals and PDF books).

I love my air 2 and use it in the evenings for pretty much all my computing. I holy move across to my desktop for Lightroom or video encoding stuff. I even manage my headless Mac mini server entirely through teamviewer or Iteleport on ipad.

So I'm super curious about iPad pro. Much larger screen would be nicer for watching video content (and PIP would be a usable size too), and the pencil sounds useful, particularly if supported well in onenote or Evernote. But I don't think I'd get the ugly looking keyboard - I assume they are doing a normal Smart Cover too? If I need to type a lot I have a few Bluetooth keyboards in the house. I just don't know how much I'd type on it without a mouse - that might feel odd. I know people already use iPads for document creation but I just don't get on with them - constantly moving between keyboard for typing and screen for icons/tools is fatiguing. I suppose it isn't much different from reaching across for a mouse but that horizontal movement is easier for me than reaching forward constantly. I might practice with my apple Bluetooth keyboard to see if thighs are better these days. But I wish they'd have included a mouse (if only to simulate finger touches)

It is competing against Windows 2-in-1s for me though. Have my eye on a surface pro 4, HO spectre x2, or Lenovo miix 700. Full Windows laptops with nice keyboards and trackpads which will connect up to a monitor and work with mice. I just need to try and wait to see what developers bring to the table with iPad pro.

Also, my son wants an iPad Air 2 for Christmas so he could have mine which would give me an excuse to buy the pro ;)

One thing I'm hoping for is a trickle down effect to other iPads. I want more professional apps on iPad generally and maybe the pro will encourage that.

Eg if Adobe update Lightroom to better work as a standalone app or even just be a better extension of the desktop version (eg syncing catalogues etc), then I could use that app on my iPad Air 2 hopefully.

Amazing. After reading 8 pages (yes life as an academic at times is very boring) of comments there has probably been 100 (+/-) quality posts about the upcoming iPad Pro. Everyone here feels the need to "justify" the device one way or the other, for or against, for everyone else. To what end?

Most people make a purchasing decision if the expected value of service from the device exceeds the financial obligation to secure the device. That's all. Not because Bob in IT says it is a great device, or Janet in sales thinks I can be more productive, or Keith online says the disloyal has a higher PPI rating then any other tablet. So why the onslaught of negativity towards others expressing their use case plans for their purchase. If I want to buy the device for X, Y, and Z I will state that simply for that; letting others know "my" potential plans for use and why the device makes sense for "me." I will not dispense hatred towards you for your intended future plans, and may offer alternative solutions to assist you in fulfilling those plans with the device purchase. This ongoing need for putting others down and trying to prove everyone is the smartest person in the room has to STOP.

I mainly read the posts but do not post to the forums that often; for reasons stated above. Online forums used to be a place to conversate with friends about familiar topics and spreading useful knowledge and information. Now however they are just filled with angry responses intended to stir up arguments and start online fighting with trolling remarks and off-color comments based on insolence and naivety. I am not trying to police the forum in any manner but can we please just try to be more constructive and helpful in the contributions we make? Many, many readers post honest feedback and provide positive conversation but there are a few that continually degrade the comment section to dribble with repeated snarky and rude comments.

If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. If you have nothing positive to contribute, contribute nothing. And if you want to state your opinion then fantastic, state your opinion; but do not insult or correct or ridicule or belittle another poster for "their" comment.

For me the device is great:

1) being able to read full size documents with the ability to digitally edit

2) having the ability to edit and perform another task side-by-side at the same time

3) enhanced content consumption

4) no iPad Air 3 release so that allocated money will be spent on the iPad Pro

Thanks for reading.

PS - Being a Veteran I do not particularly care for "anyone" taking advantage of generating sales on 11/11 (including Apple) so I am upset with the industry as a whole. That is just me and for my own personal reasons. That being said, if you take a stand and do not buy on 11/11 (if that is the scheduled release date) then you may have to wait week/months for a device if they sell out of launch day stock so not an easy decision to make.

Best,

JS

I don't know if its the marketing hype or what but I am super excited for the iPad Pro and am looking forward to placing an order on Wednesday. Truth be told if it wasn't for the Pencil I probably wouldn't be ordering at launch. From what I've seen seen with the Pencil it looks like Apple has hit it out of the park.

Can't wait to try AstroPad on it.
