...my ass...

For pure economy and productivity, it's hard to beat a good laptop and...

I ****ing hate laptops and wouldn't waste my money on one unless I really had a need for specifically a laptop. Give me an all in one desktop any day over a laptop. I don't get people's obsession with them. Laptops suck.

I occasionally borrow an iPad 2 from my sister - but have never been truly able to use it (also, its slow as hell). I plan on buying the iPad Pro on December 22nd as a nice little Christmas gift for myself.

Reading all the impressions has me second guessing, but i'll read the reviews and play with it at the store before pulling the trigger.

If your not using this machine for drawing purposes, or some other design type function, why would anyone buy this over an actual laptop computer?

Because some people like me just don't want a computer. You guys need to think outside box. Just because Apple put pro in the name and selling a pencil for it doesn't mean it's only for people who does art work.

For me this will be better for school, my PDF textbooks will be wonderful on this, while I'm taking notes in a note taking app in split screen. It's easier to and more comfortable to read on an iPad than a laptop. And when it's time to type papers I'll just attach to the keyboard, no papers to write the keyboard disappears! Other people may have other uses as well.

MR didnt really justify why people shouldnt buy this?

If you are going to say dont buy than justify it with some reasoning.

You beat me to this. I think it's more of an issue with the tact of this.
Is everyone else closing their doors on veterans day? Are they tacky for selling items on veterans day? Apple is running their business everyday of the week.

As a pro photog I find my Surface pro 3 fits this profession perfectly. Full photoshop (and other tools) available. Massive storage really helps with RAW files. Also the ability to dock to a 32" color calibrated monitor when in studio is just the icing on the cake.

Still don't understand how this 12" iPhone is right for "pro" work but if you're simply a diehard fanboy it's all moot I guess.
You arent going to be doing pro work with a gimped laptop or a gimped tablet either. IPad Pro knows its a tablet and thats it.

That's expensive for pencil albit the touch part

I would have paid $50.. so this is just "a larger screen tablet" only,, and no one thinks it's for tailed for businesses, despite Apple has everything out available for it..

Pension and all ?

Depending what you're studying, you might be better off with a surface pro. You can do everyone you just described, in addition to installing and using programs that your classes may require, as well as printing straight from your device.

Wow what a serious dud. 2,4,6, or even 8gb of ram with only 128 gb of space - someone has been smokin way too much silicon chip at apple!! where's the MBP skylake already - Jobs would've at least made announcemnt by now, I need some real portable horse power for work, We don't need another shiny apple scratch pad with only 128gb to play leap frog on. Is it me? Since Cook to over, Apple seems behind the ball. I've held off for 14 months now for the new 15" MBP. There's no way I'm slapping down any serious coin for a dated Haswell. So to delay MBP launch and focus on Ipad pro WTF - that's one sure way to piss off the career folk. o_O I hope the surface pro 4 was a wake up call for Apple.

Why does anyone have to justify whether they will or won't buy it? I'm not going to buy it, because I have no need for a device like this. Other people will buy it, because they do have need for a device like this. I don't think it's going to save the iPad sales but ultimately it doesn't matter. This is not a Curious Case Of 5400rpm Hard Drive. It's a new product.

Personally I would like to see an updated Macbook Air but I think a snowball in hell has more chances than that happening.

Srange attitude, laptops are great and so cheap and powerful compared to many years ago

they really need to give us an official release and pre order date as i want one bad and this whole maybe this date, maybe that date does nothing but piss me off.

As for people saying who would buy this...well, artists...thats it really! Ive been an amateur artist who's been dying to get into the whole digital art thing for years now, but the whole cost of entry has been way to high. I simply can't draw using those devices where you put the pen on a track pad and look at the screen, I've looked and tried almost every other tablet out there that includes a stylus and a lot of devices have come close like the surface line and some of the samsung notes, but you simply can't shade or tilt the stylus and have it work and the lag has been hit or miss.

Ive been eyeballing a wacom cintiq and if i could afford one i would purchase one in a heartbeat but there prices are insane and your just not getting enough value IMHO for the cash and i don't want to switch to a windows machine!

The iPad pro seems to perfectly fit what i need. Reports are the drawing on it is spot on, the screen size is right, its a good OS, and is a fair price for what i want it to do!

do i recommend everyone buy this...HELL NO! Simply cause i want enough in stock for me, lol, but in all reality unless your a professional or an artist (or both) i see absolutely no need for the casual consumer to purchase one outside of anything to do with the pencil and Stick with the iPad air all the way!

as for that keyboard, I'm not sold on that one bit and as of right now I'm not even considering it unless it gets stellar reviews!

I think your my twin. These are the same reasons I am getting one. Can't wait to use it with AstroPad.

I tried a Cintiq and it's a horrible device for photographers. Colors are way off.

Microsoft definitely has a better piece of hardware comparing the Surface to the iPad Pro. However, I think the iPad Pro will be much more successful strictly due to the apps. With the iPad, everything is designed with the iPad UI in mind. Everything is designed for touch. With the Surface, it seems like no one has really gotten that concept yet. All of the Microsoft apps fully take advantage of it, but it seems like it's lacking all of the third party support. Microsoft is trying, and they seem to be making some good progress, but they're just not there yet.

I took a long hard look at the Surface Pro. Once you leave the very few apps that are designed for it you are out of luck. Developers aren't writing surface apps so your mostly stuck with ugly designed Windows apps that are not designed for touch

The iPad or iPad Pro really doesn't make sense for a pro or semi pro photographer that wants to use it as their primary device.

1. No convenient way to backup raw files while out in the field. Would need a way to attach an external drive since even a 128gb iPad would not be enough for a two week trip.

2. No way to convert raw files for editing on a n iPad

3. Adobe pro apps don't run on iOS nor the plug ins available for the adobe apps

Right but not everyone class or classes require that you install programs. I have never had one that did. You can also print from iOS devices as most modern printers connected to networks allow this. I'm better off with the iPad pro but maybe other people would be better off with the surface pro, a laptop, a desktop or even no computer at all. For me the iPad pro will be ideal like I said for reading my text books in PDF format while taking notes side by side in split screen.

I don't see why this is a problem. Perhaps you've never heard of the Apple Store at 5th ave NYC, the one that never closes unless preparation for a product launch, and is open every single day of the year.

This one's gonna go down meekly before Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. Apple is getting too slow in advancing its technology. iPad is one product where Apple has lost the plot, though most potentially exits.

Why why why...? Even a non geek knows a bigger iPad with iOS rather than OSX is an utter waste.

I disagree, I don't think the Surface is better than the iPad Pro, in fact I'm glad Apple hasn't released a hybrid device not everyone wants one. The iPad Pro will be useful to a lot of people but not everyone, artists and creatives (such as myself) in particular.

Let me tell you two great reasons why I have been looking forward to this product for a few years:

A) I am a [musical] conductor and the size of the iPad pro means I can have my entire collection of sheet music stored and shown for rehearsals and concerts on a screen just as big as my actual papers. Goodbye to heavy, fat folders full of sheet music.

B) I work as a teacher and this big screen with the all-important Apple Pencil will allow me to stay 100% digital when marking papers, assignments and tests for my students.

Other than this I have still not decided if I should keep my iPad Air 2 for the more casual uses, most of us have as well.

You are probably being sarcastic, which is fine. But, you really miss the point.

Desktops are the best productivity device when you are at your desK/office/workstation. Laptops are the best productivity device when you are mobile and away from your desk. That's the reason so many people love their laptops. We often need to be productivity when away from our office or home. Also, you can connect your laptop to a monitor at your office, and completely duplicate the desktop experience. So, a laptop can afford you the best of both worlds.

None of the above applies to tablets.

You mean even a non geek could see why a desktop OS on a tablet is total rubbish.

I think this is a good point, people forget the individual things that people will be buying the iPad Pro for. Personally I think the iPad Pro will be great, drawing and writing with the Apple Pencil will be a highlight for me but it will also double up as a media consumption for Netflix and my Apple Music subscription (when I'm not listening on my iPhone or Mac).

I also think the apps that Adobe showed off at the keynote will be really good and over time there will be more apps added that take advantage of the screen size and the power of the iPad Pro.

Heheh yes :) if I do not get this version which is what I have been awaiting (more screen real estate), then I will be thankful to the many millions of who I will lovingly call 'my precious Guinea pigs' (and those of all other heritage/residence/self-definition) heheh.
Because Apple knows nothing about making an iPad? Why the comments about beta or 1st gen. It's probably a cost issue for you.

You mean even a non geek could see why a desktop OS on a tablet is total rubbish.
And if you're so sold on the Surface, why are you here?

Still not sure what they gain by not announcing a release date. But, happy about the possibility none the less!
It's all rumor until Apple announces it. Why 9-5mac is being reported like it's a done deal, I don't know.

who will use this device
People who buy it.

I always wanted to post this....

But it's not happening on a particular date until Apple actually announces the date. And a Wednesday? Hard to believe.

What's a diehard fanboy? If you hate Apple and disparage it's customers as fanboys, why are you here?

Ditto, strange how we are still waiting...as for being released on the 11th if it's 100% true then it's rather disrepecful IMO
No release date has been, um released, by Apple. It's just a rumor that it's coming out on the 11th.

I ****ing hate laptops and wouldn't waste my money on one unless I really had a need for specifically a laptop. Give me an all in one desktop any day over a laptop. I don't get people's obsession with them. Laptops suck.
And, most important for me, laptops don't come with cellular options. I have unlimited data on my iPad SIM.

Still not sure what they gain by not announcing a release date. But, happy about the possibility none the less!
There's nothing to gain or lose from a non event. Apple will announce the date when they have all of their resources in place: employees trained, replacements in the Genius Bar, stock in distribution warehouses and in stores. This isn't their first time at the rodeo, but this also isn't an iPhone launch.

Really, a brick tablet provides the same thing... Huh?
You can print from an Ipad, so I don't really get that too?
Come on.
I can understand people saying Surface is a decent laptop though I don't agree,
but I certainly won't say the same for the tablet part. That is BAD.

Anyone who handles, reads, annotates a crapload of documents is a primary for this.
That means, legal, government, a huge swat of business, etc.
One thing people forget is that processing documents, adding to them incrementally, showing them, collaborating over them, and not producing them wholesale as one piece, is what most of business is about.
Dedicated production absolutely needs a desktop (or a good laptop), but everything else can be done easy with a large tablet. I think people will be surprised by how far tablets will penetrate business in the next 5 years. It's just the beginning.

Indeed. The tablet market for Apple has not reached its peak yet. There is still lots more useful features to be built into iOS.

I'm hoping there will be an update to some note taking app that would introduce hand writing recognition.
