Uh... what's all the complaining about? This could be awesome. Imagine transferring cost to advertisers in the form a paid or ad-based app option. Don't want to buy an app? No problem, just watch a 20 second video every hour of use and you can have it for free. That would be an ideal setup

ummm, they already have ad driven apps for free and they are far from ideal...I need GPS to tell me if this is my exit, but I'm stuck passing my exit while watching an ad...lame

@DaveGee Quote: "Well Apple has a 'knack' for reinventing most every business sector they come in contact with... It might even remotely prove interesting and dare I say it ... less annoying."

Apple making ads less annoying, when they created the most annoying Justin Long ads....

You guys are both i-idiots and have been drinking too much iKool-Aid...ads suck and always will unless they contain female nudity like in Germany.

Maxis (1990 - 2000): SimFarm, SimCity, SimTown, SimEarth, SimLife, SimTower, SimAnt, SimCopter, SimVille.
Apple (2000 - Present): iPod, iMac, iTunes, iPad, iPhone, iAd

And its still March.

Except that you forgot iBook, iBooks, iMovie, iDVD, iLife, iCal, iSight, iChat, iWork, iPhoto, iDisk, and iWeb.

Did I miss anything? I feel like I am. Point being it's a lot more than your little list.

Slightly different perspective!

I have bought google adwords for our products in 2009. We found a series of adwords that, with limited investment, have had a 2500% return on investment.

I'm not bragging!

But, if small companies could get a solid return from iAds, they'd definitely give it a try!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

LLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEETTS GET READY TO HRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBBLLLLLEEEE
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah! So when is Apple going to do a search engine to rival Google? Perhaps that is what that big data center in North Carolina is for?

I can see it now, all to well. The Apple Charm on a search engine -- woohoo!

If I were Apple I would unveil both the new MBP's and iAd at the same time. Introduce something new and something familiar at the same time. Also, april keeps coming up in MBP rumors and April 7th seems like a fine date to me.

Would be great if they had a media event and also introduced a completely new lineup of Macs, iPods, and iPhone. Everything is really "dated." I know we're not going to get anything like this, but I can at least hope for some new Macs.

Great news about the iAd possibilities - or not. What is next, Apple removes the ability to use alternative search engines from its Macs, iPhone, iPod, and iPad. This would ensure use of its own product just like Apple has done by not allowing Flash. The big problem I have with Apple is it wants to create a monopoly of sorts. It is acting extremely anti-competitively and I see it wanting to charge us for web searches, ability to surf the web, and etc. In fact, maybe it would be smart to just buy a wireless carrier like AT&T or even Sprint and ensure its products only use its services to connect to the Internet, communicate, and etc... maybe not so good where this is going. Choices are best for consumers, and Apple doesn't like any choice that doesn't have an Apple logo on it. I personally like the business strategy of being the absolute best and offering the best products and services at the right price point to make excellent value propositions for customers; that seems like the true American spirit, not anti-competitiveness.

Flame me now.

I don't believe Google will ever fear Apple, but I think they will come to believe that having Apple as a partner was better then having Apple as a competitor for ad income.

I guess ads can be annoying, but I feel like this isn't going to be something where they're going to make us watch a 30 sec ad before an app starts to work. They already have that. Its probably a technology to customize ads for consumers. For businesses, its crucial that their ads don't fall onto deaf ears, or blind eyes, 'cause otherwise they're just wasting their ad money. And seeing how so many people are going to be using apple products, what a good way to gain information on the preferences of consumers. I mean, one look at the apps on my iphone or the music I listen to, and one could easily learn my interests and things that I would buy.

I really have no idea what iAd will be, but I imagine biggest issue here will be consumer 'privacy.' Just like gmail a couple years ago was controversial when they announced that it "read" your emails and tried to customize the ads towards the email owner. But look at it now, most of us don't even notice the ads, gmail is a pretty awesome email service, businesses obviously feel the advertising works, and google also gets paid.

Sounds to me that iad is not something that we as consumers shouldn't really be complaining all that much about, but rather something that businesses, who use advertising, should be excited about. Simple fact is, a lot of money, jobs, and people depend on good advertising.

I notice as usual that people are complaining about the naming convention of using "i" before everything. I actually think this is great. I expect Apple to remove the "i" from the iMac so that we have the Mac, Macbook, Macbook Pro, and the "i" identifies mobile devices.

Maybe the next MBP will come with stupid "walk on people" at the bottom of the screen, for stupid TV shows... (yes i've watched American TV whilst on holiday).

Thankfully the only channel that's reached in our fair land is Virgin 1 which doesn't matter as no one watches it :)

Can you imagine how more annoying clippy in MS Office would become if he started advertising? :)

This would ensure use of its own product just like Apple has done by not allowing Flash. The big problem I have with Apple is it wants to create a monopoly of sorts. It is acting extremely anti-competitively and I see it wanting to charge us for web searches, ability to surf the web, and etc.

Dude, you really need to get off the 'pipe.

Not including Flash is going to ensure we use their products? Umm... no. Actually, the opposite may occur.

They want to create a monopoly of sorts? I didn't realize they have gotten that big and powerful. Why aren't my AAPL stocks higher? ;)

Charge us for web searches? Again, no. They want to make money off of us using their (possible) search engine.

Also, they have never charged for the use of their web app. Nor do they dis-allow the use of a 3rd party's web app for browsing (unlike another Monopoly seeking company did in the past.)

So do the world a favor, and re-read your posts BEFORE posting them.
