Great, now I can listen to iPod on my iPad while watching an iAd!

These naming conventions are gettng ridiculous. Ok, iPad, fine. But then to come out with iAd a few days after the iPad release? I agree with others, this does reek of Aprilfoolery.

Just wait until they come up with robot parents. the iMom and the iDad

Hmm, can't help but think this is why Jobs didn't want Flash on his devices.

You remove the current standard for advertising and then create a system that only you control to allow advertisers back on...and with the rigerous controls, I don't think he'll be allowing plugins or addons to block this out.

What will be interesting is if the open up this system to other mobile companies, but I'll guess we'll just have to wait a few weeks to find out what exactly it is.

they should better stay on products and topics they are made for......this ad **** just sucks. By the way, maybe iShit is for sale too....

For gods sake, can't apple concentrate on what they started with, like computers, rather than trying to wring out another $ from someone?

THIS COULD HAVE BEEN WHAT STEVE & ERIC WERE RECENTLY PHOTOGRAPHED TALKING ABOUT!

Ads btw..... Not that big a deal

also to ALLLLL the mac enthuseist wanting an update to the MacBook Pro/Air & Mac Pro ............ Not to Worry

Does anyone know where/what their sources were? It wasn't clear that any of these 'executives' told them about this event, but I didn't/haven't seen any event invitations either - has anyone seen the actual event invitation or wording that Apple has used to talk about this event?

C'mon Apple, stop playing games and update the MBPs already. No one wants to wait until June, when Arrandale processors reach their mid-life.

See Ads in May for Macbook Pros with 2.53Mhz Core 2 Duo. A brand new ad campaign that says it is a magical product that exceeds your ability to understand how it works. A Macbook Pro allows you to hold the Internet in your hands. :D

Wednesday?

Is Apple moving away from their Tuesday product announcements for Wednesday? The iPad was announced on a Wednesday.

Considering the way people in the industry still hold a collective breath on tuesdays and fridays to see if Apple releases something new, it's good for them to change tactics.

While I'm glad to see any competition against Google, it's uncomfortable to see Apple have Google-envy. It could make Apple take their eye off of their core products.

In many ways this is what is and has been happening to Microsoft. They have massive Google-envy. Vista and Office 2007 were not exactly well received and they were developed during the peak of Microsoft's Google-envy. They have mended their ways a bit though since then.

I hope Apple doesn't get too distracted by their battle with the evil empire (Google).

Ladies and Gentlemen,

LLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEETTS GET READY TO HRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBBLLLLLEEEE

Maxis (1990 - 2000): SimFarm, SimCity, SimTown, SimEarth, SimLife, SimTower, SimAnt, SimCopter, SimVille.
Apple (2000 - Present): iPod, iMac, iTunes, iPad, iPhone, iAd

And its still March.

They then developped "the sims".
So last the final apple killer product wil be.... the "I"!

Of all things that are EASY to spot as BOGUS, this is the easiest. iAd? Does anyone think Apple would actually use the 'i' prefix for something consumers would see as a negative? Let's risk all those iMac, iPhone, iPod, and iPad sales by giving customers the feeling that the "i" is about learning their tastes so we can barrage them with ads wherever they are.

Sorry, I call BS on this one.

1 April is going to be a long day... ;)

This isn't the 80's. It's not just about "computers" anymore. Hell, even the very term "computer" is being redefined in ways no one thought possible years ago.

For God's sake, stop screwing around with how to stick it to Google and start being a computer company again. Release the friggin new MBP. So, this is what has been holding up the new MBP? Really?

Uh... what's all the complaining about? This could be awesome. Imagine transferring cost to advertisers in the form a paid or ad-based app option. Don't want to buy an app? No problem, just watch a 20 second video every hour of use and you can have it for free. That would be an ideal setup

No thanks. This is exactly why I use Adblock and Tivo.

Apple has obsessed over start up times and the immediacy of getting back to work since the original Mac. It will NEVER make you watch an Ad when starting up your iPad while Steve Jobs or even Tim Cook are in charge. Bet on it and relax.

While the timing and name may be bogus, the plan to add an Apple branded ad experience to apps is not. That plan comes from a direct and clear quote.

The ads will be on Apps. Some devs will choose to only release an ad-supported app, but most will offer a paid version as well. It only makes sense and if it's as easy to implement as Apple has suggested it will be, there would be almost no reason not to offer both.

This is a great idea, btw. If you want the free version, go for it. The dev still gets some income and you only have to deal with some ads. If you DO find the ads too distracting or annoying to deal with you have an option to pay up and clear them away. All without leaving your phone or device.

I know as a developer, I'll be taking advantage and offering both types.

The iBranding is a little silly, but in the long term it works amazing well. iPhone has made it synonymous with Apple for most people, and after awhile you don't care. As far as using iAd as the name of this service, I have mixed feelings about it. I'd prefer something a little more exciting to devs and comforting to consumers. In the end, though, I don't think consumers will care about the name. Just the fact that almost all apps become free to them if they want or adless if they are willing to pay. It will just be part of the iPhone/iPad experience.

And this is why you are a negative influence to the shows and web sites you watch helping to drag them under by having them cancelled or going out of business. Nice of you.

What's being offered here is a way to support the content you enjoy the way you would like to do so. You're approach supports no one but yourself and only for a short term gain.

I get why you make that choice. The providers often make it the best choice for many people. Somethings got to give though. :)
