IMO the main failure of the original HomePod was that it wasn’t introduced with home theater speaker functionality. Many more people would have jumped at the chance to replace “dumb” speakers and a receiver and all the wires that entails. By the time the functionality was added it was too late.

Hopefully new large HomePods will lean more into that functionality. Or are cheaper.

I would prefer a soundbar and subwoofer tbh. I would pay a fair bit for a soundbar with HomePod features. Not so much for a single speaker.

I'm wondering if one can pair this new "fat" HomePod with the original one (like the one I have already) for a stereo pair.

It would sound pretty dreadful as the larger one will have a radically different sound profile. Software would have to compensate for the physics.

Been enjoying my OG HomePod. Except one diode issue of the 2. Got it repaired and sound is nice. Could be a Benjamin cheaper.

Will the new HomePod support hi res lossless streaming from Apple Music? Probably not, since AirPlay 2 does not support hi res wireless streaming. And it doesn't appear that Apple Music supports hi res streaming either. I've seen a number of posts elsewhere that suggest that Apple Music doesn't even support lossless wireless streaming - these posts indicate that you can stream lossless (up to 48kHz) local files via Airplay 2 but that Apple Music streams in lossy AAC.

I would need something like this, or I will just buy another Homepod mini.

1. Line in
2. Bluetooth
3. 1GB network port for stable Homekit connection
4. Have connector to allow ipad to place on top to make a always on screen homekit hub

When is this renaming of "MacRumors" to "The Daily Gurman Show" completed?
The two most prominent Apple analysts are Gurman and Kuo, add in a couple of leakers with better than average prediction accuracy and you have appropriate reference sources. Should they not credit the sources since they are more often than not Kuo and Gurman?
