Let it have an optical in port so that you could connect it directly to your TV-set. I hope the new HomePod will stream the sound directly to another HomePod for stereo sound. I would love to have an HomePod who delivers terrific good sound on my TV-set and be able to stream music from my phone or iPad.

I wish Apple had never discounted the HomePod but Bring it, Apple. So much potential.

There will be very long lines at the Apple stores because everyone wants a HomePod with the awesome Siri.😉

Seriously:
Why buy Apple's hobby "HomePod"? It can't do Spotify or other music services, plus the not-so-smart Siri and a limited product range that can be adjusted at any time!

I chose Sonos (Bose and Yamaha were also in the selection) for exactly these reasons at the time:
2 x One Play and later bought the Beam 2 in addition.

Why do people want backwards tech? Just buy a dumb speaker
Which is why the HomePod failed as at the $349 price it didn't do enough so they didn't buy it! At that price point many people want to be able to use it to do more than play Music or use for Siri (like be able to use it with their gaming console or even just regular TV). If the new one doesn't and is still priced that high it will fail as well.

I don’t get the point of the HomePod. Those who are serious audiophiles or home theater buffs are going to get something much better and everyone else will want something cheaper. Wouldn’t a better option be for Apple to make a really good sound bar that has Apple TV and Siri integration?

As long as they don't build it with one crappy component that's prone to failure and kills HomePods this time, it'll be great. Luckily mine have survived so far, but I don't blare music on them all day.

Plenty of HomePods have died however (see Reddit.com/r/homepod) and there's essentially nothing you can do unless you can get this specific IC and are willing hack apart your HomePod.

IMO the main failure of the original HomePod was that it wasn’t introduced with home theater speaker functionality. Many more people would have jumped at the chance to replace “dumb” speakers and a receiver and all the wires that entails. By the time the functionality was added it was too late.

Hopefully new large HomePods will lean more into that functionality. Or are cheaper.
Not just home theater (for which original HomePods are better than sound bars), it took Apple a few months just to introduce stereo pairing.

I'm one of those people and yeah it's not going to replace my main or desktop setups but honestly it's pretty cool as a kitchen or bedroom stereo. Audiophile quality all-in-ones are expensive. See, KEF LSX.

I’m game. The first one was well done, but extremely overkill. I think the original one could come back in the form of a HomePod Pro or Max version. Can’t wait to see what this new version is going to bring. The minis are nice, but a few more options in this category would be welcomed.

Too Late Apple. I replaced my dead OG HomePod with a Sonos One, and then just kept buying Sonos products for my premium sound needs.

HomePod minis in other areas take care of the rest.

I just donated my 2010-ish soundbar and my next step is to get Apple speakers. I like the $99 one that sits in my office, but always wanted to get a couple more.

If I wait, I can get the bigger ones from Apple for better sound, obviously. I want that rich surround sound again.

I have 2 for surround sound in my living room. For anything else, they suck.. takes forever to even get the time, the weather, to turn on the TV. Faster to check my phone or manually turn on the TV with the remote.
