Yeah, super intuitive, how many buttons have this thing, 5 hundred?

I prefer a tv controlled with this:

Right. How am I supposed to access the red/blue/green/yellow button functionality?

----------

Personally I am not interested in an Apple TV Set.

I speculate that it will be very thin and have limited connectivity, perhaps be a wireless TV - minus power cord. I think you can use an iPhone as the remote or an iPad.

If Apple puts an HDMI on it...then people may use it for Blu-rays, Apple does not like Blu-ray.

It's not a matter of like or dislike. It's a matter of paying royalties for playing it back. As in via a computer or Bly ray player. It has very little to do with a tv/display.

Eliminate those TV commercials in some "new model" and WE become the "someone else"... or most of the great programming we love (and note that list can widely vary person-to-person) goes away.

If we all watch TV, then people will have different aspects of TV that they MUST watch live. For me it's soccer. That's where advertisers catch me. For others it's some HBO drama series or whatever. We all subsidize each other. I am not going to change my viewing habits to satisfy the networks.

I agree about advertising, however, commercials are the reason that TV has been free since it's inception. Up until pay cable. Someone we have to pay for the content. One way or another.

same as above

I still don't understand why they wouldn't put all this stuff in a breakout box (a la AppleTV on steroids) instead of bunging it in with a display / chassis. I keep my TVs for 10-15 years (or until they die), and a 2012 iTV (or whatever) is going to be mighty antiquated by the time that display dies :/

. . . whereas I could afford to buy a new breakout box at <$300 every couple of years to keep up with technology and upgrade my display on its own schedule.

I haven't watched "live" TV in 10+ years (ever since I got my first TiVo). People ask my when something is "on" and I don't know - doesn't matter to me :p

I completely agree with those concerns. My bet as to what Apple will do (if they release a full display) is a dockable AppleTV box that can be integrated with the Apple display panel or used on its own.

I suspect for the same reason some people buy iMacs and some people buy mac minis. If price is not an issue, elegance always wins

Am I the only one that doesn't think Apple will not come out with a TV, but just enhance the little Apple TV box?

There is too much competition in the TV market. You can get a very good quality 46" LED TV for cheap. There is no way people will just go out and replace their TV with an Apple TV.

I personally think that the next generation TV's, home theater receivers, etc will have some sort of Apple TV API similar to how they support the iPOD or XM/Sirius radio. You could then control your TV, stereo, etc from your iPhone or iPad with an enhanced Apple Remote App. Manufacturers will design there products for this type of integration. The Apple TV Box will connect through the receiver into the TV as the main OS to access all these devices.

Why would Apple invest in making actual TV's when they know manufacturers will be more willing to work with Apple on full system interaction? Let companies like Samsung, Sony, Onkyo, Denon, etc do the leg work.

They'll do it, well because it's Apple and it'll sell more units if they do.

Totally agree with you. I just don't see people replacing their TV for an Apple TV that is probably going to be twice as much as a similar TV.

Define similar

Because one could say the same thing and merely replace TV with computer. The likelihood of Apple charging a 100% premium over another HDTV of similar quality is probably not going to happen.

good 55" TV's are in the $1500 to $3000 range right now. $2000 for an Apple TV 55" set is not expensive.

apple is just not going to cater to the lower end of the market with no profits

Seems like a lot to be releasing at WWDC.
iOS 6, OSX Mountain Lion, New MacBook Pros, new iMacs, and now the Apple TV set (or just it's OS)?
No way we're going to get all of these things at once.
HAHA u r right. No thank you, apple, I dont want a TV. I WANT MACBOOKS.

Do you guys think the iPhone will include an IR Port to control the Apple TV? What do you think will be the Apple TV's refresh rate and panel specs? what about the insides?

Utterly irrelevant.
If it's made by Apple, it will be amazing regardless!!
Can't wait for iTV!!!
Love you Apple! :D:apple: way to goooooooooooooooooo!!!
