I just hope they update Mac Pro.
I wouldn't write it off just yet - the Pro isn't a fashion accessory like the rest of the range - few people aren't going to buy a new model every year so its not a big deal that it gets less frequent updates. I also doubt that its such an expensive design challenge as the laptop and SFF range - Apple could build a "Pro" with fairly generic PC components (its basically what they did for the forst Intel Macs for developers).
However, Apple are only going to continue making them as long as there is a market. While there
is a core of people who need the power of a Mac Pro, that core is being continually eaten away.
First, the iMacs and MacBook Pros are getting faster and faster and if Thunderbolt takes off, its going to reduce the need for internal expansion - they're going to be picking off the lower end of the Pro market. Lets face it, if you're developing iPad apps, you can use a MacBook Air with a big monitor.
Second, the higher end of the Pro market are going to be lured by big boxes full of GPUs that can do video encoding and rendering faster than any regular CPU.
Third, all levels of the pro market are going to be lured away by the prospect of cheap, commodity PC hardware that can be used to assemble custom systems. It's not like the good old days when PCs couldn't do graphics, DTP and video for toffee and there was no software for them. That part of Apple's market has been slowly dying since the 90s - the only reason Apple exist today is that they make nice laptops, SFF systems and consumer gadgets.
