No, it's version 1.2 for the 5th gen iPods.
ok thanks, nvm then
No, it's version 1.2 for the 5th gen iPods.
Anyone else notice that it says "with software version 1.2 or later"
... we're only on 1.1.1 right now correct?
evidence of a slip up?
2.0 was the original 3rd gen iPod software I believe. they went to 2.2 or something though..
Funny how this made it to the front page of digg.com -- which in turn nearly brought down the server hosting the PDF in question -- but it's just page 2 news on MacRumors, where the majority of people seem to agree it's just a typo.
It's just a mistaken use of the word "screen". Clearly, the "beginning with" is in reference to older models, not some new feature. Someone was working late, that's all.
Of course we'll see touch-screen iPods at some point, but this isn't the smoking gun here.
Note: Linking to photos and videos is supported only for 5th generation iPods running iPod Software
version 1.2 or later. All other Notes feature capabilities described in this document are supported for
iPod models beginning with third-generation iPod (dock connector) models with touch wheel.
Right, and the 2nd gen didn't have the museum feature either. That seems to have been the fumble: "duh gee Tennessee, what do I call this touch wheel iPod that isn't the other touch wheel iPod?" to which Tennessee replies "a milk truck!" and then everyone laughs. This seems likely, except though that other than more disk space and the wheel itself, I don't think there was any serious difference between the 1gen (5Gb scroll-wheel) iPod and the 2gen (or 1.5gen, depending on your PoV) 10Gb/15Gb touch-wheel iPod.
The "Touch-Wheel"/"Touch-Screen" screw-up seems likely, so I'm not likely to agree that Apple slipped out any product info. But a "Freudian" slip seems most likely. SOMEone at Apple had "Touch-Screens" on the brain.
Wow, if that's not from the horse's mouth than I don't know what is. I say that this is concrete evidence that Apple will soon be releasing a touch screen iPod.
Sweet![]()
Don't read too much into it, Apple has hinted at features before that never saw the light of day. But who knows.
I just want to avoid the post 6 months from now about how Apple has ruined some ones world by not releasing the touch screen ipods and they are going to sell every Apple product they own and by a dell or sony.
Youd have to smoke a ton of crack in order to do something like that![]()
I doubt that apple would stick to a design if it turns out most people hate it. and considering that ipods are the only portable players so far that work on OS X they have to be extremely careful about how they treat the ipod design.
huh? Most player just show up as storage cards/hard drives on OSX. How is that "not working"?
Too much crack?![]()
i tried using my sony walkmans on my mac, i was never able to load anything onto it, but it did make a fancy flash card. But the interface software that allows me to actually load the music onto the player doesnt work.
<Snip>Anything that you can mount should do too.
Um...yeah. Apple's support folks don't get that info.![]()
