Mac Pro, A7 chip (truly desktop class)

I guess if it's not a bigger screen people don't consider engineering to be innovative

Mac Pro was an existing product with a new design

And that's the most innovating thing apple had done in years? Lol

The idea of a low cost iPhone was put forward in 2010 too, 4 years later - iPhone 5c

It's amazing how important the execution is. As evident from the 5c, and the lagging ATV. Both deserve to be left in the dust compared to better offerings. Of course the ones praising the 5c will point to the 5s as the better option - all the while android based phones that are full fledged top notch smart phones are coming out hundred less than the 5c.

If you actually believe that then its a very self-serving statement. The "Mac Pro" line was an existing product but there is nothing other than name that the previous and current version share. It's not just a new design with similar guts. For all intents and purposes it's an entirely new product, also with an entirely new demographic.

When it comes to technology we should keep moving forward. If we did not move forward from slavery we would not have an African American president today. Instead we would still see articles about slave trade with no one doing anything about it.
That's how I feel about Tim Cook. Riding off Steve's coat tails with no real innovations for the last 3 years.

Holy non-sequitur Batman! How did you get from technology to slavery?

You entirely missed my point. The email discussed in this thead is of historical interest. It has zero to do with anything Apple is doing today as you want to imply... ATV2 has been around for sometime now. But it's always interesting to see how Steve Jobs thought w/o any filters. Your complaint about Apple going forward doesn't negate the historical quality and intellectual need of exploring and analyzing Steve Jobs and his thought process, just as we do with other historical figures and events of importance.

Sure they're cheaper because what really do Android OEMs have to offer as a differentiator? The custom skins that no one wants? When you're selling a commodity the only real differentiator you have is price. Android OEMs are in a race to the bottom in order to gain marketshare. Is there one OEM besides Samsung that's profitable on their smartphone/tablet lines?

Bookmark this post of yours, come back at the holiday season and eat crow.

It's been very clear for the last decade that Apple operates in three year cycles for releasing market defining products.

Also, the Mac Pro is an engineering marvel, not merely a redesign.

Man, that email even mentioned a new version of iDisk! Sure, my Dropbox is great, but I really wish it could be baked into the OS.

The 5c is a joke offering much less than $100 worth of value compared to the 5s. And people wonder why the 5c is not selling like hotcakes. Defend all you like, but people aren't stupid.

But how is the lagging Apple TV defensible? it's not. Steve's own email shows that the Apple TV is nothing like it should be. Yet folks are still defending it as is.

Mind boggling.

This, all this. I've been waiting for an iDisk replacement since MobileMe replaced .Mac. As a developer, we speculated it would happen soon as the mobile documents folder for iOS app's in ~/Library/ acts as a cloud folder. Unfortunately, it only allows iOS app access, creating a folder does nothing... for now. Why they haven't opened it up for full use is puzzling.

Actually - one of the most used functions on a phone these days is the camera. And in that regard - each OEM is differentiating themselves with different tech and functions.

I'm surprised that Apple was not allowed to redact portions of the e-mail which point to future products.

They were probably allowed to, but chose not to. Lawyers have to provide justification for such redactions if they are challenged, so it doesn't make sense to redact stuff that doesn't really matter anyway.

Did you notice I was the one that used the term discovery correctly? My second post/comment was PURE sarcasm.

Sorry... We really need a sarcasm font.

You're oversimplifying it quite a bit, and a lot of what you wrote is just wrong. I specialize in corporate law so I am very familiar with how it works.

Definitely simplifying quite a bit, but where was I wrong?

I'm not the author of the post you're wondering about, but I think it makes a legit point. Apple has rested on its laurels the past four years and failed to innovate. This is so obviously the case it had to be addressed on stage at the unveiling of the cylindrical pro computer (which, although nicely engineered, wasn't particularly innovative btw).

This shouldn't be controversial as it has been obvious since Cook took over. There is no Google Glass competitor (although even Cook must have a team working like mad on that considering how obvious the need is), no super iWatch (dumb idea anyway, but many thought/think it's amazing), no replacement for the cable-tv providers, and iTunes is just as bad as ever.

Without Jobs this was bound to happen. Not because Jobs was magical, but because he had control. Like every other mega corporation, Apple is sinking under it's own weight--they can't even get their campus built. They're all making too much money to rock the boat.

So what, may I ask, is everyone looking for as innovation? What is Cook doing so wrong? Clearly Steve Jobs wasn't going to live forever anyway. What is missing from Apple? Do people here have a wish list of things they want Apple to make or is the popular consensus that Apple hasn't made anything that make you go "wow" in awhile?

Again, this is pure curiosity. I've never understood why there are so my cynics on these boards. Even with a proper answer, I'll probably still never understand.

So it seems. ;)

20th Anniversary Macintosh
Pippin
Apple Lisa
Macintosh TV
G4 Cube
Hockey Puck Mouse
Macintosh Portable
Newton
iPod Hi-Fi
Samsung puts out that many crappy products every week. Plus, you've really padded your list with products that were actually quite decent just expensive- TAM, cube, Newton, and Hi-Fi all fit that category. The only products on that list that are truly crap in the sense that the Galaxy gear is crap is the hockey puck mouse and the Mac TV.

Galaxy Gear crap? Have you seen the latest reviews from sites and users? Since its first software update its been highly rated.

The biased in your post is strong.

LOL. Its reached the point where only the people who love it are still using it and writing about it including Samsung's paid bloggers. So naturally that's going to lead to a dearth of negative reviews since everyone else has long since stopped caring. That said, the goal of Apple, and perhaps this is different from Samsung, is to change the world. The iPhone has changed the lives of nearly everyone in the first world as nearly everyone has one or has one of the other touchscreen only devices that the iPhone inspired. The iPhone also destroyed the phone industry as it used to exist- the arrogant dinosaurs of the past- RIM, Palm, Nokia, Motorola, are now dead or taking their last gasps. The gear on the other hand, will never change the world as only 0.00001% of the population has one and it has had no effect on the watch industry as a whole. Rolex, Casio, Timex, are still making the same watches they've made for 10 years.

So let's not lump a product like that Gear which nobody will remember in even three years with products that actually make a difference.

Wow! I dont know where to start! Lets break it down.

This is only your opinion, unless you have any evidence to back this up. All you have to do is search for "Galaxy Gear reviews" or look at the user reviews on Amazon to see the majority of people saying that since the first software upgrade people actually rate and use this product.

That said, the goal of Apple, and perhaps this is different from Samsung, is to change the world.

Is this really the goal of Apple? Where have the said their goal is to "change the world"?

The iPhone also destroyed the phone industry as it used to exist- the arrogant dinosaurs of the past- RIM, Palm, Nokia, Motorola, are now dead or taking their last gasps.

These compaines were to set in their ways and failed to evolve with the market. Pretty much they way Apple is heading. Apple will be the new Nokia/Blackberry in the future.

The gear on the other hand, will never change the world as only 0.00001% of the population has one and it has had no effect on the watch industry as a whole. Rolex, Casio, Timex, are still making the same watches they've made for 10 years.

The gear never set out to "Change the world".
