And as far as the Apple TV, you know the subject if the email itself - NOTHING.

The Apple TV continues to be a disappointment. Jobs vision is what we should have by now, but instead apple is still selling a single core A5, that will not be able to run the new functionality when/if I ever does get released.

Who in their right mind would buy an Apple TV now?

Apple has turned into the government. All talk, no action.
Sick of it.
Amazon can bring out a product the blows Apples stagnate 7 year-old product day one.

----------

This * 10000. People have completely unrealistic expectations about Apple innovation and it's more a reflection of those people than it is of Apple.

What is unrealistic to expect Apple to release simple incremental updates their competitors have released on day one products?

Where is the App Store?
Where is game controller support?
Where is AirPlay Direct?
Where is 4K?

Hell, I can watch almost any CableTV channel on my iPad, live, where is the Apple TV app?

We are talking BASIC **** that Apple just ignores time and time again.

Amazing how people are able to rip on a product before even seeing it, let alone using it.

I've had an AppleTV since the original one...

I only use the current one for Airplay - my Nintendo Wii can hook up to older sets and and I use my PS3 on my home theater as they booth seem to play Netflix and Hulu better when it comes to buffering and receiving the wireless signals, not to even mention the gaming capabilities.

No. Generally a protective order only applies during discovery unless a motion is made to have evidence sealed during trial. If no such motion is made, evidence isn't sealed at trial and becomes unprotected when introduced at trial.

Thanks dude. I learned something new today!

Apple must be wondering who is the 'mole' responsible for leaking those --most likely-- highly confidential documents to Samsung.

??? What? The reason those emails are out is the lawsuit.

Many settle out of court btw to preserve their privacy

I never said otherwise. However, there are at least a few "regulars" here who would insist that Apple never cares about or does anything as a reaction to competition.

And they don't "react". I think that's what people mean by that. Reacting would be "omg they have this, let's make something similar immediately". Apple does not do that.

You don't know what Apple does. Reacting to the market and competition didn't have a clear enough timeframe.

Two Steve Jobs articles in 2 days? The man has been dead for almost 3 years. Let's stop living in the past because technology changes so fast we can't use a dead man's cheat notes and quotes. A new game changing product could be released next week. I doubt Steve could help. Apple hasn't had a game changer since the iPad.
We should be worried about 2014 Apple. Not 2010 Apple.

2.5 years, not 3 years. That's the kind of imprecision that Steve Jobs would have fired you for if you had managed to become an Apple employee.

Couldn't help chuckling while reading some of the comments on Apple's "alleged" lack of innovation, made me think of this:

I think the Apple TV is currently a terrible offering. You disagree with this?

It's lagging behind. It hasn't been updated in many years now. And the vision Steve had for it three and a half years ago, still has not come to be. It could and should be so much more than what it is now.

If it matches what you need now, then great. But it's old tech, with old innards and old interface. I'll not buy it in its present form.

Yet it's the only set-top box on the market that has AirPlay which many consider a magical feature.

If they have held off this long, then they should hold out a while longer. Unless thy like buying the that will be updated soon, and knowing that their recent purchase won't be brought along as things advance.

Sure. And no more books on the ancient Egyptians, or the Renaissance period, or dead U.S. president's diaries. History is so irrelevant. Truly, let's stop living in the past.

When it comes to technology we should keep moving forward. If we did not move forward from slavery we would not have an African American president today. Instead we would still see articles about slave trade with no one doing anything about it.
That's how I feel about Tim Cook. Riding off Steve's coat tails with no real innovations for the last 3 years.

why not just use your iPhone to control your atv? it has an accelerometer why not use it, without developing a new product.

As someone else said: why buy a "remote" for $500 or $1000+ when you factor in a contract for a device that costs $99?

But also, this whole- "just use our iPhones"- idea that comes up over and over ONLY might make sense if you are single living alone. If Apple were to make the :apple:TV DEPEND on an iPhone as remote, every time you leave the house with the remote, everyone else at home can't use the :apple:TV (unless you buy up to ALL of them a $500-$1000+ "remote" too).

Stationary A/V devices need a stationary remote (that doesn't cost $500-$1000+). If the remote is also a phone, etc and thus something that begs to be taken out with it's owner every time the owner leaves the house, it's a very BAD remote for anyone beyond those single, living alone. For example, I'm on the 3rd night of a trip right now. My "remote" would have been away from the home & family for 3 nights. Think how happy they will be.

Same with the "airplay" device (only) idea.

Same with the "iPhone as game controller" idea.

Etc. One piece is to be left at home and the other piece goes out every time it's owner goes out. If you are NOT single living alone, take the A/V equip remotes at your home out with you and see how happy the family/roommates are when you bring them back later. Then, you'll get the key flaw in the concept.

Samsung has a cable HD-DVR box as an option for Time Warner/Comcast, etc. customers. Perhaps Apple has worked out a combo Apple TV/DVR "box" that accepts coaxial connection(s), yet is GUI driven by Apple with iTunes "a la carte", apps, and everything else that comes with the current Apple TV with the hardware necessary for cable TV and customers chosen packages (win/win for both). Apple could sell these in volume to cable providers who can still rent them out to customers or customers can buy the unit and own it (I bought my Motorola modem at BestBuy for $79 and returned Time Warner's, no rental fees). Keeping in mind, Verizon rejected Apple's iPhone at first since Apple refused Verizon's software to run it. Eventually, Verizon acquiesced, for the first time, ever.

Thoughts?

These were ideas put forward in 2010.. My guess is over the past 4 years Apple has refined those ideas.

Ain't gonna be no magic wand.

The idea of a low cost iPhone was put forward in 2010 too, 4 years later - iPhone 5c

If you had to lower the clock speed of an Intel CPU to fit in the maximum power requirements of the A7, I'm not sure which one would win but I would bet on the A7.

So we can compare the A7 as desktop class, if the current desktop CPUs had to run at its power requirements. Moving he goal posts on what desktop is??? He he . The A7 is no desktop CPU, unless one wants to live in the past and compare current CPUs v previous generations.

And low cost to produce.

Though true 4 years to put plastic on the back of an iPhone .

You mean if you buy £99 ATV then you should buy £549 remote to use it?

Not quite. What i mean is if you have an iPhone, use it as a supplementary device on top of whatever remote apple gives you. It makes sense. And it will just cement apple whole device harmony even further.
