Dude, I had a Pioneer Kuro Elite and bought a Samsung SUHD. That's one of the best you could buy and it was 1080. Why not just give up instead of trying to insult people making suppositions about information you don't possess. You can't see the difference, some of us can. I don't ask you to go to the eye doctor, I just accept your opinion as YOUR OPINION

Wasn't the last Kuro produced in 2009?

I'm not insulting anyone and your pioneer kuro elite is outdated. Great picture, but from then till now there have been newer tv's that produced a better picture, I have the newer elite lcd tv that produced deeper blacks but it doesn't matter. The difference from my tv to a 4K tv is minimal in picture quality unless I upgrade to oled.

I have never anywhere said I cannot tell the difference. I said most people cannot tell the difference from the distance they sit from their tv. Also most differences they see is simply better image processing than their prior tv. So both 1080p and 4K content will look better on the new tv when compared to the last, and they will think it's the magic of the 4K tv. It's simply because the previous 1080p tv did not have the best processing or lcd/led panel available. Simple as that, if you understood what I said you will not be offended.

To add to this, lg currently sells a 55" oled 1080p tv from last year that has almost identical picture quality to the 55" oled 4K model from this year. Cnet did a side by side comparison and the difference was BARELY NOTICABLE. One tv was 1080p and the other was 4K, one was the best picture they've ever seen in a tv last year and the other was the best picture they've seen in a tv this year. They also recommend you save money and get the 1080p model from last year unless you plan on sitting very close in front of the tv. I will repeat, they recommended getting a 1080p tv over the best 4K tv they've seen this year. I wonder why.

So it's like I have said and countless other professionals have also said unless you're watching 4K content and sitting extremely close to the tv most people cannot tell the difference.

Though there are some exceptions to this like I also stated before. Depends on what your prior tv was you may notice a huge improvement or you may not. However the improvement you see in picture quality is not because of 4K it's because the other technologies in the tv like contrast, color, uniformity, image processing. As an example, if you're going from a 40" 1080p tv to a 60" 4K tv of course you will see a difference because the tv is 20" bigger. 4K will shine on even bigger tv's like 65" and above when uncompressed 4K or better compressed 4K content becomes available.

However people now are just raving about 4K when there are so much things to consider before upgrading so you can get a substantially better picture than what you had before.
If you keep repeating the same nonsense you will eventually believe it yourself.

I've got a 4K 70" and sit about 10 ft away and can tell a huge difference in 4K vs 1080P, And my eyes are getting worse.
Yawn. Then you're sitting too close, or have a telly that's too big for your space. But hey, big-boy size matters far more than ergonomics, huh?.

I too am SO bored with the spec-kiddie boasters droning on about how vital 4K is, and how stupid Apple is to have got it wrong when they know so much better. Poor ignorant Apple... making only a desirory $140m per day or so by being so awful at understanding the public's real needs like YOU do.

The truth is that the vast majority of normal people really don't give a hoot. You know what most of us care about with our media? Erm, things like good characters, good story development, interesting ideas... stuff like that. As long as the picture isn't too fuzzy, we don't sit there self-abusing ourselves with delight over how many more pixels we have than the next shatteringly boring ****.

A signal of what? This is about the strength of the US dollar and exchange rates. If you can't afford one in your country, talk to your politicians about their economic policy. It's not Apple's job to compensate for your nation's fiscal issues.

Erm... explain exactly how exchange rates and economic policies make a blind bit of difference? (Other than as an excuse for you to spew a bit of jingoistic hate.) It works like this: (1) Money is converted pretty much neutrally at the prevailing rate; (2) There is no 2.

Apple has always charged European buyers far more like-for-like, even allowing for things like taxes. That's a fact.

So far this year I have bought the latest iPad Air2 (2 of them), the Apple watch (2 SS), and the iPhone 6s. I am excited to purchase the ATV4 (2 of them) and the magic trackpad. But Tim, for the love of God, you have taken enough from me. No more! (unless you have a better time machine, but that's it damn it).

In theory, you're not obligated to buy everything that Apple sells.

Just a heads-up.

A huge difference was from SD to HD.

I'm perfectly happy with SD/DVD and feel no desire to upgrade to HD.

SD for me until I die.

Can't believe it. Gigantti (64Gb, 199euro) have it before Verkkokauppa... That is crazy wack. I'd rather buy it from Verkkokauppa for sure.

I am very surprised that MacRumors would even post this. I would be a little lire about ordering from anyone, especially since it isn't even on Apple's main web site yet. (Anyone else feel this way?)

Actually, I'm well keen, and not leery at all, of being told that Scandinavians can get access to the 4th gen AppleTV. I immediately noticed the price-badge on the website they hd a screenshot of, and thought, that looks like Gigantti (and scrolled lower and saw it referred to as elgiganten) and was glad to heard it is up for preorder. The way things are done _over here_, I'd probably never have even heard of the preorder if it wasn't for MacRumors.

Thanks MacRumors!

German prices have VAT tax built in.

If you happen to live outside of EU (residency is in your passport), then you should be able to buy one in an Apple Store and get a I think "Global blue tax free" form. Just ask if the Store offers this service. Then at the airport in Germany the'll give you the 19% tax back in cash.
I've done this with a camera some years ago.

No. Legally they can't enable such things without charging for the update as they've been required to do in the past. They'll just sell you new hardware in the future if they choose to add 4k support.
Every time some one points this out - I suggest also pointing out to stupid laws. See what we have done - Apple cannot give us a new feature for free because of byzantine accounting laws. Sad.

Yes.....Do you pick up a new 50+" TV every year? I'm sorry to disappoint, but I simply don't. That doesn't mean that the screen is trash, it merely means it's not last year's model. I have other later LCD 1080 models and the plasma was still better prior to being struck by lightening. My 4K Samsung replace it.

Sounds like you got a small one. I had a 50" before and had a hard time seeing text, so I got a bigger one to see better, how is that non-ergonomical.

The preorders seem to confirm the earlier reports about different versions sold in different countries.

The German version comes with the Siri remote, according to the distributor cyberport.
The Finnish version comes with the touch remote, according to the distributor Gigantti.

There is no legal requirement for Apple to charge for anything. Apple can enable whatever features it wishes for free or at a cost - it's Apple's decision and has nothing to do with "law".

Not really. Netflix has the largest library and even that isn't a whole lot of content, on top of paying extra to watch it. Apple themselves doesn't have 4k content and that's the reason they don't care about it at this point. Until iTunes starts offering it, Apple won't bother including the ability on the Apple TV.

Amazon Prime has a decent amount of 4K content as well. So here's what's happened -- I've stopped using my Apple TV entirely and I've started using the Netflix/Amazon apps built into my Vizio TV for content. It's Apple's prerogative to not offer 4K if they don't want, they just aren't getting my money.

Sorry, but I have been laughing at the 4K whiners since the ATV4 introduction. Its a syndrome where people want to act as if they have/can afford the best even if they dont really know what they are talking about.

Just because somebody wants something that you don't care about, do you really have to "laugh at them" and call them whiners? That's mature?

1.) lack of TRUE 4K content
2.) lack of TRUE 4k hardware (with the necessary HDCP 2.2 through the WHOLE hardware chain)

If you're buying new hardware, are you buying for the last two years or the next two years? There is plenty of 4K content today, and will be a flood-more of it in two years, with the overwhelming move to 4K in TV sets.

My entire chain is HDCP 2.2, on very low/moderately priced 2015 equipment.

3.) Most 4K TVs are not TRUE 4K but up-converted (did your "4k" TV from Best Buy have lots of "4K" stickers on it?) and they likely will not play true 4K in the future:

This is patently false. Yes, the 4K sets sold a year ago were not ready for prime time. Practically everything for sale now is HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and everything else.

To cry about the ATV4 not having this marketing gimmick called 4k is hilarious. Yes, 4K will be as real in the future as 1080p is today, but not now and not before ATV4 or 5....suckas!

Who's crying? I just hope Apple is listening, because I already can and am getting my 4K elsewhere. I like being in the Apple ecosystem, and I would happily jump to the new AppleTV immediately if it had 4K.

My 60" elite lcd tv looks just as good as any 4K tv the same size that is also lcd. However a good 4K tv from lg the same size or bigger that uses oled technology does look better and that is because oled images pop more.

You are right that resolution is far from the only defining trait of a good TV. I went to a 65" 4K TV after needing to replace an old 50" Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma. The LCD can't touch the plasma in terms of image depth -- but it's also not a space heater, doesn't buzz, doesn't suck electricity, and more. I'm looking forward to a 4K OLED next year perhaps.

Awesome. If it doesn't offer what you want, go ahead and go to an option that does. For the large group that is still going to buy the Apple TV, they seem just fine without 4K.
