German prices have VAT tax built in.
while that is certainly true, if you do the math, germans are still screwed big time by apple:
899€ - 19%VAT = 755.46 €
With the current exchange rate of 1€ = 1.13$ that amounts to
755.46 * 1.13 = 853.67$
So basically apples pricing policy is stating "bend over and take it, you can afford it" which may be the reason even some hardcore brand supporters are seriously considering a testdrive in the microsoft ecosystem...we'll see how that plays out...

When has Apple ever added additional hardware features after releasing a product without charging for it?

Why would they do it rather than sell people a new device and make more money?
I wasn't talking about updating hardware, but updating to enable better use of existing hardware (enabling 4K on what is now a 1080p box)

Question still stands. When has Apple ever updated software to allow new hardware functionality? They haven't. They've sold you a new product even if the old one is capable.

Apple added support for 4K@60Hz SST displays to Thunderbolt/DisplayPort, and support for 5K displays to the Mac Pro (and the newest 15" rMBP, but it shipped that way).

But generally, I agree with you. I think there's at least a 50% chance that this time next year they'll release an updated AppleTV with 4K and a price drop. I actually have this sneaking feeling that they deliberately left 4K out to avoid muddling content negotiations with networks and confusing app developers.

I think the big reason we don't have 4K support is because iTunes content doesn't have 4K content right now. It would hurt Apple's image to say "Here's a product with 4K but we don't offer anything in 4K so get it from someone else." They'll release a 4K Apple TV at the same time they announce the availability of 4K iTunes content.

What about Bluetooth in the 2nd and 3rd generation  TVs? And Bluetooth in the 2nd generation iPod Touch?
