Very weak video review. No research, no specifics what so ever...

FYI... The New Apple remote can control your TV, Receiver etc... in addition to the Apple TV via CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). If that guy had even watched the Apple presentation he would have known that.

My current Apple TV mostly collects dust - too many 'apps' that require a cable subscription to see useful content, and mostly because there is no Amazon video. Naturally, Apple doesn't want to support a competitor such as Amazon - but that'll keep me from buying a new model Apple TV as I prefer to use my Tivo OTA or Roku which DO support Amazon (and have global search).

Apple's logic is no doubt that they don't want us buying/renting from Amazon vs the iTunes store... but I left the iTunes store long ago (even with a big credit balance) because the terms are ridiculous compared to Amazon. For the same price, or less, I can rent from Amazon Instant Video for 3 days in most cases vs 24 hours from iTunes. Apple has no competitor to Amazon Prime (free stream and download) video. Apple's organization and search for video content stinks compared to Amazon... and has never been improved that I can tell.

Maybe the new Apple TV will eventually have an Amazon app... and allow in-app purchases (not allowed on IOS - so not holding my breath). If so, I might buy at that time.

This was talked about fairly often once the SDK got into the hands of developers.

Oh well missed that. I assume it will come.

But what about the complaints about typing on screen? Does this mean the current Remote app is incompatible?

Ugh. No native Siri support for 3rd party apps like Plex out of the box. Way to announce the deal killer after you have my money.

I have the Xbox One with Plex and a Kinect and it works pretty well with Plex to navigate the menu but i still find myself using a controller i think you'll find that voice search is a novelty that wears out its welcome pretty quick

Since Amazon was the one who banned AppleTV and Chromecast from their web store (including 3rd party resellers), and are giving the blank stare to media when they ask if they are planning to release an app, I think it's just as likely Amazon doesn't want to support a competitor such as Apple, despite Amazon's mission statement.

The omission of optical audio out is a deal breaker. I just don't want to upgrade my A/V stack to support this right now.

Really too bad, I would've been totally on board for day 1.

That said, if Elgato ever gets around to putting an Eye TV app on it I may be forced to drop some money on a new HDMI capable receiver.

It's 20-30$ bucks to get a converter, seriously! Coax and optical are on their way out.

Currently the remote app doesn't work, an update could come though. The on screen keyboard is complete **** on the new TV. It is 26 characters wide, A-Z alphabetically. Typing anything on it is a giant pain in the ass.

please link us to this adapter we all need.

Google, or go on Amazon or Alibaba. You''ll find one inside 1 minute.
Your reply means your not really looking for this, just trying to score a point.
If you're ready to buy 500, you can get them for $5.
It's all digital and old tech,
so it's not something costly at all to buy for those that really need it..

If I come back in another post and your telling me you haven't found one.
I will have to declare that your just pushing buttons for kicks and you don't really want one.

Has Amazon submitted an app for Apple TV? Doubtful since they no longer sell Apple TVs in their store since it competes with their service. Therefore seems more like an issue with Amazon versus an issue with Apple.

Buy amazons device.

Thanks for verifying about the remote app. I can't imagine it will be long before a new version is out. I hope...

Did anyone read all the reviews? Any mention of Plex shipping built in? Or available to download?

Very poor video review... No specifics whatsoever...

I doubt it will ship with Plex installed. I don't expect any 3rd party apps to be pre-installed, ever. Look at iPhones, Facebook and Twitter have integration built into the OS, but aren't pre-installed on the device.

i bought the new apple tv mostly because i know apple is trying to do a tv service. right now, apple doesn't have much leverage with tv networks, but if this device is a big hit, that will give the networks more incentive to play ball with apple, so that we tv lovers can get a good service. right now, i think apple is the company in the best position (resource wise) to bring us an interesting tv service. that is why i am hoping that this tv box is a huge hit so that the networks can finally wake up to the fact that WE WANT A BETTER TV EXPERIENCE!

Perhaps I missed something, but didn't they fail to mention that the new Apple TV also just happens to be a lot more expensive than the old one?

Apple TV version 3 $69 (US)
Apple TV version 4 (32gb) $149 (US)
Apple TV version 4 (64gb) $199 (US)

At over twice the price, it better be a heck of a lot better, and at least include all the same ports, plus the ability to handle 4k video.

But, it doesn't. It's missing an optical audio out port, and only handles 1080P video.

Tim cook said it last week, it is not my problem if you didn't hear it reported . Look for yourself

Searches on MacRumors and Google are turning up nothing, same for the Apple Developer forums are also turning up nothing on the subject. Thanks for being helpful.
