My wish is they release the thing already. ATV3 is old now and I'm dying to get one (after I sold my ATV2 a long time ago) and don't want to buy the 3 when the 4 is most likely on the near horizon.

Have the ability to download Apps and run them on Apple TV so you can use it to watch programming. Otherwise, you have to use Airplay to do that! Ugh!

Roflol

Seriously?

4K for all the AV geeks though I don't want it personally.

I used to hear that all the time about HD. In the last year, I have only heard one person say that they couldn't appreciate HD.

All they can do is add 4k which 90% of people don't need and they don't even support it yet.

Exactly what many people were saying about HD in 2008. But, it turns out that a lot of people can tell the difference and do like HD.

With the 5k iMac released and iPhone 6's capable of doing 4k video (with the only use for that being 4k Airplay), I'm kind of betting on the new Apple TV being called Apple TV 4k.

Hopefully Apple will work out deals to upgrade previously purchased content to 4k or 3D as these things become options in Apple's ecosystem.

I see no reason for the new ATV to come out unless and until it supports 4K (3840x2160p60) over HDMI 2.0.

The original TV had optical out as well as discrete left and right audio out. Time for a new excuse.

It's not an "excuse". I'd pick one up for a hundred bucks even though I'd have only very little use for it. But since I'd have to buy a bunch of other gizmos just to hook it up to my TV and my stereo system I'm not interested. I never understood Apple's obsession with limiting and eliminating ports and connections that are still industry standards, forcing people to buy all sorts of flimsy adapters.

Direct access to my media collection on my NAS -- I can do it now using a iPad or iPhone, and my Synology but it really needs to be native.

A revamped OS... it takes 3 clicks to preview a song right now man that's a joke.
Needs a completely revampled iTunes store app. Needs an app store. Needs better wifi. Needs to be faster.
This thing can do so much more man, it's so under-utilized. The room for growth is huge.

All I want is a TV SHOW 'Genre' tab and or single title start for each TV Show. Hate scrolling through everything to find what I want to watch. Brutal

1) Continuous Play. Once a TV show episode finished playing the next should start automatically. Having to manually start each episode of a season is so 2010.

Are you talking about local content, if so you can accomplish this using a few smart playlist.

HD has been around for a very long time now and they've managed to make HD TV's very affordable to the average consumer. They are having issues producing 4K TV's in large cheap quantities meaning they won't be cheap enough to sell large amounts. It doesn't matter if people can tell the difference or not when the average consumer can't afford one.

You see no reason for a ATV unless it has an option the vast majority of it's customers don't have access too... okay.

That's not true at all. The Vizio 60"/70" 4K P-Series was recently on sale for $999/$1999 respectively. I think you can get the 50" model at Wal-Mart for around $700. Of course the Seiki's are even cheaper but crap quality.

Prices have declined even faster than for HDTVs, which debuted a decade ago, says Shawn DuBravac, chief economist for the Consumer Electronics Association. "Promotions during Black Friday should both improve consumer's awareness of the technology, as well as accelerate the uptake of the technology," he said.
Nearly every electronics retailer and most discounters are getting in on the 4K action this holiday shopping weekend. "4K is red hot right now. You can buy it for less than a regular HDTV," says Tom Campbell, technologist for Video and Audio Center. "In two years, you won't be able to give away a regular HDTV."

With 4K Blu-ray coming out at the end of 2015, I don't have any doubt the next apple tv will have 4K support. Amazon just started offering 4K content too.

Best Gaming Console

It should have more onboard storage than XBOX or PS as nowadays the games that come on these consoles are really really big. But most importantly it should be small and not bulky like a PS4 or Xbox.

At the same time it should deliver superior and sustained graphics output compared to any console on the market.

FaceTime camera

My little ones constantly grab the phone, iPad, air. when face timing, usually hanging up the call, would love the new apple tv to be a Camera mounted to the TV.

And it would be even greater if they were "the bigger company" and allow Skype to work on it for family members who are stuck in the android/PC world. Or somehow let a Skype call be converted to a FaceTime call.

I'm with you, or at least it has the capability to support an upgrade patch. It's not for geeks. It's for people who are able to appreciate picture quality.

The biggest thing here will be enough storage capacity on the AppleTV to buffer the 4K programming.

All I want is a UI change, I have a few hundred movies and even with playlists I'm so tired of scrolling through lists of movies. I want to be able to browse cover style like everything else. Only other things I would like is HD audio and a app store. I don't have any need for 4k, my main TV is only a year old and 1080p. But with just a UI change my ATV can win back its place from my newly purchased Nexus Player, I love it's UI and the ability to use Plex with out resorting to something like Plex Connect.

I was going to say 4K but I still have a 1080p TV and don't plan on upgrading any time soon, by the time I get a 4k TV the Apple TV 6-7 will be out

Well, how did this list compare to release??

Well the most requested were:
4K
App Store
Universal Search
Siri
Universal Pay TV login
NAS support
More Audio type Support
Move video codec support
Usable USB port (see NAS support)
Plex
Kodi
Amazon Prime
Vudu

With an AppStore a lot of these might get fulfilled (Plex/Kodi)

But Apple will not and probably never support multiple video codecs. 4K could very well be the only unfulfilled wish.
