That is the big question. Hopefully the new Siri remote will have the ability to learn IR codes for the Power button. The old black Siri remote can only learn IR codes for the Volume + -One question I have is, is the "TV Power button" programmable?
Can someone from MacRumors update this article regarding if the Power button on the new Siri remote can learn IR codes or not?One question I have is, is the "TV Power button" programmable?
I don't have any need for it to turn on the TV, as the Apple TV turns the TV and receiver on via CEC. I'd love to program it with the IR code that switches my Denon receiver to the input my iMac is plugged into, though!
I get what you’re saying. As someone who also owns a TV capable of hdmi 2.1, I’ll be upgrading anyway. Since the remote costs 1/3 of the entire package, I feel I might as well than delay it a year or two and buy this exact same model at the same price.Just not enough for me to update right now. My TV supports HDR at 120Hz at 60fps but there's nearly no content in that format right now. Closest you come is a couple video games on the PS5.
Once there's more high-end 4K content, I'll look to upgrade.
I don’t see how it would be capable of this. I can’t think of a universal remote where a power button can be completely re-programmed (except for something like a Harmony). There’s no hint in the documentation of this now, so I doubt anyone will know the answer for sure until it’s in their hands to try.Can someone from MacRumors update this article regarding if the Power button on the new Siri remote can learn IR codes or not?
Exactly — we use this thing every day since it launched in 2017. So many comparisons read as if we are discussing the comparisons a mere year later or something.I have the 1st Gen 4k, I ordered the new one. The 1st gen is selling for around $100 used, mine is in like-new shape. I figure that instead spending $60 on the new remote (which I really want) for $20 more out of pocket I can get an updated model. $20 is worth it to me.
Anything you consider a good deal. For me its anything between 35-45% off.what do you call a good deal? Me personally, unless its $99, I'd go for the newer model ...
Don’t older Apple TV models already learn IR volume control? Shouldn’t it have the ability to learn or remap power the same way?I don’t see how it would be capable of this. It might be a silly, but honest, question: why point out that standard dynamic range (SDR) is supported by both models? Isn't that a given if HDR is supported? It's like, "in addition to color, grayscale is also supported by both models."...
Both models support standard dynamic range (SDR), as well as HDR10 and Dolby Vision for richer colors and deeper blacks.
...
Agreed. While I am glad Apple TV is updated and remains in the line up, it's disappointing that the team did not push the product to become the best in its class. If only Apple could match Nvidia when it comes to upscaling. I love Apple TV's, but the 4k AI Upscaling on my Shield is just miles better.
Honestly, use a universal remote. Harmony ones are far superiorI think it's worth noting that the Siri Remote 1st gen was Bluetooth 4.0 while the new Siri Remote 2nd gen is Bluetooth 5.0. It does impact the range of the remote.
Same upgrading an A8 upstairs that struggles with HEVC with an old 4K and grabbing this for zippier performanceI ordered 3 of the new models and can't wait. All of my old ones will replace family members even older devices so it's a win-win. I think they still have some 2012 revisions in use.
I assumed the volume buttons can be mapped to control volume only, and the power button to power only. But I see that you’re saying why not teach the remote any button you want. I hope so , because I could use a “switch input” button myself.Don’t older Apple TV models already learn IR volume control? Shouldn’t it have the ability to learn or remap power the same way?
