Seems like a solid upgrade. I keep hoping that at some point they will put an M chip in an Apple TV.

They'll only do that if they are really interested in pushing gaming/or when the M1 are no longer being used by other products.
Problem for developers is there isn't a consistent line shown by apple on what to develop for (see the watch gen 3 they stupidly kept on despite being a pain to target).

Any owners to share what Geekbench is saying? 4 or 5 core GPU? I'm still asking, but it seems nobody is interested in this... for me is big deal.

I just picked up a C2 last month and what a magnificent beast it is! I pulled the trigger shortly after on a 4K ATV and I have to say that it surpasses the LG OS by leaps and bounds.

I've got an old Yamaha 5.1 receiver (2013 Costco Vintage) hooked up through the E-ARC and when I hit the power button on the ATV the whole bundle springs to life and pops open to the last app I used on the Apple TV. It's so much better than waving around the goofy LG remote (which I used to really like on my old LG set). I am fortunate that I am still within the return window on my ATV and have pre-ordered the '22 version in anticipation of an incremental upgrade.
Amen brother!
- LG TV for the visuals (the C series still makes me shiver every time I see those images in 4K HDR)
- good soundbar + bass+ rear speakers to give you a "full" sound
- aTV to give you a UI that just gets out of the way and doesn't make you cry.

- unfortunately the missing fourth piece is a content provider with a UI that isn't garbage.
EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM has just stupid terrible moronic ideas about UI, and we seem stuck with them for now, no relief in sight.
(Dumb ideas include
+ enforcing that you have reached the end of a movie just because you paused 15 min before the end
+ various forms of autoplay that you can't control
+ making it really hard to get back to content you were watching three days ago
+ restarting the app (with resultant delay and loss of place) when you return after more than an hour or so of pausing)

I don’t get all the discussions about the ATV remote. Am I the only one that uses the built in remote app in iOS? I haven’t used the physical remote in years. Is there something I’m missing by not using the physical remote?
Remember, over and over again, NOT EVERYONE IS LIKE YOU!

I have no idea how you live your life. The way I live MY life is that
- at home I wear sweatpants or shorts (phone is a deadweight in the pocket with no belt, feel clumsy)
- I mostly use my watch for minor notification issues
- I'm mostly at my iMac or iPad
- so there's just no reason to carry the iPhone around.

Meanwhile the aTV remote has a case with a lanyard, and a hook that it hangs from on; so it's always there and available as needed.

Don’t know about you, but content load times have slowed down quite a bit. My parents wanted to buy my 2017 ATV4K (they currently have a Roku) so that makes the cost of the new one justifiable.
Come on, just give it to them! (And set it up nicely for them.)
You'll feel better about the transaction, so will they :).

Will NOT buy the new Apple 4K TV UNTIL they include the S/PDIF Optical (and Coax) for 5.1 (or other multi-channels) Surround/Spatial Sound. Most of our home theatre systems does not have HDMI audio ports but have S/PDIF Optical Audio ports and Coax ports. Even though we have the new Apple 4K TV but we cannot enjoy the Surround/Spatial Sounds through our HiFi/Home Theatre Sound System. Also our Smart TV/Projector does not have the S/PDIF audio out and needed the Apple TV to provide the S/PDIF (Optical and Coax) Audio out for Multi-Channel Surround/Spatial Sound. Not everyone enjoy listening through AirPods Pro for Multi-Channel Surround/Spatial Sounds. Using Apple TV with HDMI Audio Extractor to S/PDIF is such a mess which degrades performance and reliability; More components required, more cables required, most audio extractor required power which additional power point is required - Messy.

after Apple modified the Apple's AirPlay Protocol, some of the web video streaming using AirPlay stopped working with my Sony SmartTV that supported Apple's AirPlay. I went down to the Sony Store to test their latest Sony SmartTV with Apple AirPlay support, streaming of some online video through AirPlay does NOT works now (previously was ok); tested on all the new Sony TV, and none works now. This forced people to buy the new Apple 4K TV even though previously it worked natively with the Smart TV. What a way that Apple attempts to increase their market shares and monopoly.

So hook the Apple TV to the TV via HDMI and the tv to the receiver via optical. That’s how I hooked my parents dated system up and it works fine

There’s an audio sync issue with my Ultra and my TV. I have to restart my TV everY other day, usually in the middle of what I’m watching. It’s become super frustrating.
That's our Fire TV does. Not quite that often, but every few weeks, it will keep freezing, and I have to unplug and plug back in. And when it isn't frozen, it's about the same as our ATV.

Man I really miss the optical output from my 3rd gen Apple TV. For everything else the jump to the 2021 4K was a big improvement.

That's what I did with my 10 year old TV until I got a newer TV with HDMI (e)ARC. My receiver is pretty old and even it supports HDMI ARC. Optical is going away in favor of HDMI eARC, so I don't think it'll be back. eARC just has so much more bandwidth.

The trouble with HDMI/Arc is it take up a precious HDMI port for non video stuff. I really need a TV with about 8 HDMI Ports and an Arc port! And All I have have is 4 total.

wow? what takes up so much? I only use one on every tv I ever had😂 The arc port is for the receiver at that point. plug everything else into that
