I've been very happy with the latest Roku Ultra
If you like to have Roku know everything what you do through their device, I guess is fine. Privacy is important to me, so I'm sticking with Apple products.

Roku says that while it shares some data with advertisers, but it does "not share your viewing data with them." I don't believe that one second.

Personally, this aspect doesn’t bother me. If you are on any form of social media, it’s par for the course.

I don’t see why people care about this though. I don’t use a Roku but that wouldn’t stop me. So they know my favorite tv shows? How does that matter?

As much as I like to slag technology that is overpriced and underwhelming comparing the Apple TV to an Xbox Series X for gaming in NBA2K is just ridiculous

I don’t get all the discussions about the ATV remote. Am I the only one that uses the built in remote app in iOS? I haven’t used the physical remote in years. Is there something I’m missing by not using the physical remote?

Good luck getting the latest features and updates as quickly as available on Apple TV or other platforms. Some of those apps pre-installed in Smart TVs don't even have support for Dolby Vision/Atmos.
So I have a 2021 ATV4K and my 2022 is en route for delivery tomorrow, so I am clearly a fan of ATVs. But I also have an LG C1 OLED and it's ironic you posted this, because the exact opposite is true for Amazon Prime app. The ATV app does not support Dolby Vision, but the LG C1 prime app does. Also Netflix app has historically had problem with audio dropouts on Dolby Atmos being fed to AV receivers (I haven't used it for a few months now so I'm not sure if this has been fixed in the most recent versions) but the LG C1's Netflix app plays Atmos flawlessly to my Denon.

I'm an Apple Music subscriber and do agree that some apps on ATV are superior to their Smart TV counterparts. But it's not a universal truth, there are some Smart TV apps that are superior (or at least are less buggy) than their ATV versions.

That sounds great! I think the real issue I have with Smart TVs is that I don't trust any updates from tv manufacturers. I know you can disable updates but they can be really sneaky about it.

Had a nice Sony TV and the picture settings got ruined by a firmware update after the launched a new version of the TV. I also have the LG C1 with the factory firmware (AMAZING tv btw) and I refuse to connect it to the internet 😂

Well, it’s $129 after all, to compete with PS5 / Xbox X at least two things would have to happen: a hardware push with an ”ultra” Apple TV version for gaming with say an M2 Pro chip with active cooling (and perhaps ray tracing hardware acceleration) at the PS5 price point; and a content (financial) push to bring IP and AAA titles from studios similar to the one they’ve done to build the Apple TV+ streaming service.

The Switch has hardware similar to an 2016 iPhone and is a success due to content. But Apple has refused to pay / finance ports and hasn’t launch or acquire first party studios either, so, no wonder it’s not competing.
Right, ports need to optimized for the platform in order to run well. It shocks me as many games are ported from iOS to tvOS as it is because there's basically no market. I suppose the only reason we have any ports to TVos at all is likely because they aren't that expensive to release by forgoing optimization. The only issue would be supporting/optimizing touch controls and MFi. Apple is definitely not very serious about this market even though they constantly mention it just to keep the door open one presumes. Considering the small user base the Apple TV already has, which shrinks to almost nothing when you ask who plays games on it regularly, I just don't see them ever prioritizing this unless the underlying tech of small low power SOCs leaps forward in graphics performance. Personally every time I've tried playing games on Apple TV 4k(2nd gen) just to see how it is, it's reminiscent of using an Android device. Choppy, buggy, uneven performance. It lags the heck out of the box too if you leave the apps open in background.

I 100% agree. Can't tell you how many TV's I've owned from companies that suddenly have bugs because of some firmware update that they then never go back and fix because they've moved on to their next gen model which is also buggy. I've bought like 15 TCL, Hisense, Samsung, Vizio displays in last 5 years or so which is because I kept moving and sell my wall mounted sets to buyers for a good recovery price. TCL in particular has been VERY bad about this. Time will tell with HiSense, but I might leave them offline.

I want zero "Smart TV" BS that runs on some tacked on underpowered low power chip inside the TV. I just want solid optimized display tech and nothing else. I hate there's not a market for this but I understand most people don't want any additional boxes, wires, etc because they're after this clean modern art gallery look(which is silly imho).

Nope. It’s a cover. I’m looking for the loop like the original. But thank you anyway.
Yes, it's a cover. So WHAT? I solves the problem.

This is what makes dealing with "the internet" such a PITA. People far prefer whining to solving problems. And prefer to throw hissy fits over some trivial issue rather than accept a solution as a solution.

There are ten thousand cases on AMZ. Why is your use case so special that not a single one of them is acceptable? Have you ever even USED a Siri Remote in a case? What about the "hand feel" or whatever is unacceptable to you?

I agree, you can see how with an outdated ARM chip (Tegra X1) from 2015 the Nintendo Switch keeps pushing along due to the heavy optimization from third and first party studios. Most of the games are not even ports but built from the ground up with the hardware in mind.

Were Apple to ever take the console market seriously the obvios advantages of having a common chip architecture across all of its devices, and Metal, might come to fruition.

Same here. We plugged in the AppleTV HD when we upgraded the TV but have hardly used it.

I *know* that the Apple TV box is better for my privacy than the built-in app, but the convenience of having everything set up in the TV is too hard to ignore.
I just picked up a C2 last month and what a magnificent beast it is! I pulled the trigger shortly after on a 4K ATV and I have to say that it surpasses the LG OS by leaps and bounds.

I've got an old Yamaha 5.1 receiver (2013 Costco Vintage) hooked up through the E-ARC and when I hit the power button on the ATV the whole bundle springs to life and pops open to the last app I used on the Apple TV. It's so much better than waving around the goofy LG remote (which I used to really like on my old LG set). I am fortunate that I am still within the return window on my ATV and have pre-ordered the '22 version in anticipation of an incremental upgrade.
