Sorry about that, misunderstood what you were looking for
I appreciate it. I might need to adjust to a cover like that but my first preference is just a loop. The loop is important when I lose it in the cushions or at the end of happy hour and my hand aim is not quite as good.

By removing Thread support from the lower cost model, Apples seem to be continuing to work hard at deflating any level of real excitement over their TV streaming devices.

I have an original 4k appleTV and have been waiting on a new one to be released. The 4k will move to another TV and this new one will go on the main TV.

I've tried all the streaming devices and while it's not cheap, the AppleTV is easily the best one.

Being fanless is a big plus for me since it is going to be outside in the dusty desert.

Eh, it’s not the cheapest, but my first VCR cost $399+ tax in 1980s dollars so I feel like it is inexpensive for what it does.

my TV supports apps, no need to drop $129 on another box. An added benefit is only one remote is required. Tried the Apple app once and noticed its remote controls were different then the other apps.

Serious question: does Airplay have any improvements?

These days we have lots of problems with slow airplay responsiveness on our 4th gen AppleTV in the living room. I’ll probably replace it with the 2022 model anyway since we got multiple 4th gens for free as Dev kit from Apple back in the day.

The user interface and built in apps on my LG C1 don’t compete at all with my Apple TV.
I also have a C1, and to be honest, I don't know that the WebOS apps don't compete. The Netflix WebOS app has features that the Apple TV Netflix app does not have, and the YouTube app is smoother on the WebOS side. On the flip side, Paramount+ is better on the Apple TV, and AMC+ only has an app on the Apple TV (although their app is horrible). Since I can AirPlay to the C1 natively, I can AirPlay Paramount+ and AMC+ to the LG from my iOS devices. Also, I don't use Apple Fitness or Arcade, so the only things I miss without an Apple TV are really spatial audio, the "what did he say" Siri functionality, browsing through the Up Next queue on the TV itself, and the doorbell video notification on the TV. So far, that hasn't been worth $149 for me.

I'll be on my 5th Apple TV when the new one comes in on Friday. I agree it's the best one, especially the UI.

I am a little worried about fanless though. I'd really would have rather had a fan in it. I don't game on Apple TV, but that's where a passively cooled machine is just not going to work as well.

My lg oled has all the streaming apps so don’t ever use my Apple TV

Good luck getting the latest features and updates as quickly as available on Apple TV or other platforms. Some of those apps pre-installed in Smart TVs don't even have support for Dolby Vision/Atmos.

I am not sure about you, but Apple TV is an instant buy for me, I just use it so much that every little improvement counts and I must say that Apple really did a fantastic job with it, cannot live without it anymore. My viewing habits have changed a lot and it’s so extremely versatile (with the right apps even better…).

This stuff always makes me thing of Wedding Singer where he paid $700 for a CD Player

Should be a nice upgrade in terms of performance coming from my 2017 ATV4K. Don’t know if it’s a RAM or CPU bottleneck but I’ve noticed my 2017 model has slowed down. A10X to A15 ought to be a nice bump in performance.

As long as you're happy your TV provider is profiling your watching behaviour and keeps the apps up to date, you're fine. I prefer to make my smart TV a dumb TV and use the ATV to smarten the setup again. I even managed to buy a great 2nd hand high quality TV for a low price as the smart apps weren't updated anymore.

very, and i mean very serious question: WHO is the drooling idiot from CNET?

"But there isn't ray-tracing or other modern graphical improvements that would make anyone confuse this title for a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X game."

the top model is $150. the series S is almost double the cost of an apple tv. the ps5 starts at over twice the cost, the series X is over three times the cost.

what...why...i just dont understand. what was this person drinking when they got disappointed that the $150 apple tv doesnt compete in gaming vs the $500 consoles? in what world was anyone about to confuse an apple arcade title for a AAA PS5 exclusive?

I do badly wish that Apple had included a U1 chip in the new remote that would've made it easy to hunt down with precision using a nearby iPhone. Failing that, even a built-in speaker would've been nice for a "Siri, find my remote" command. This remote isn't as easy to lose as the previous stupidly thin version, but it still happens to the best of us.

Exactly...
