A documentary focusing on sexual misconduct in the music industry will no longer air on Apple TV+, as Oprah, who brought the project to the streaming TV service, has stepped away from it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah today said that she will no longer be an executive producer on the project and it will not be offered on Apple TV+. Oprah believes there's more work to be done on the film and that it's not ready to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival that the filmmakers want to debut it at. From a statement Oprah gave to The Hollywood Reporter:
I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on The Untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Documentary and it will not air on Apple TV+.

First and foremost, I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.

Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are talented filmmakers. I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers' desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it's best to step aside. I will be working with Time's Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment.
News of Oprah and Apple's interest in the documentary came in early December after Oprah signed on to executive produce the film. The documentary explores alleged sexual misconduct in the music industry, following a former music executive who struggles with whether or not to go public with her story of assault and abuse by well-known music industry titan Russell Simmons.

The documentary was created by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, who have previously worked on several other documentaries, including "The Hunting Ground," exposing sexual assault on college campuses and "The Bleeding Edge," an exposé on the medical device industry.

Yeah, as a woman you should never be pictured kissing a man. Because if they ever get busted for being a rapist, you’ll be dragged down with them.

And you’ll deserve it! After all, you should have known he was a rapist. Oprah, you should be ashamed of yourself!

And if you’re not, no problem. Because we’ll shame you.

This was a year after all that came to light ...

I think she’s saying it sucks "as is."

Oh, I’m sure Oprah was very much aware of Harvey‘s reputation. If you think she wasn’t aware of that history spanning some, oh, 20 years plus, I have a bridge to sell you.

She knowingly and happily hung out with a rapist and abuser. Not my concern, you understand, but I will forever enjoy photos like this demonstrating the hypocrisy of Hollywood.

You sure don’t mind playing fast and loose with the unfounded accusations, for someone who claims it’s no concern of theirs.

May you never be accused of anything someone is “sure” of but has no evidence to back it up. I doubt you’d enjoy it as much as you enjoy this.

But I get it. A rich, powerful black woman from the frightening “liberal Hollywood elite” is fair game for fabricated claims.

Are you saying there is no evidence he raped someone? Really, "no evidence?" Psst...victim testimony is evidence, and there will be that AT THE VERY LEAST.

And please, enough with the sanctimonious finger wagging. I’ve represented accused rapists before and have the utmost respect for the presumption of innocence, which exist IN THE COURTROOM ONLY.

Finally, re: Oprah’s race—-not sure where that came from. I certainly wasn’t thinking of it. It’s amazing how some people obsess about race and see it everywhere.

What the hell are you even talking about? I already said Weinstein was a rapist in post #8 above. The one you replied to in post #16, remember? 🙄 So to answer your deliberately obtuse question “Are you saying there is no evidence he raped someone?” NO. I ALREADY CALLED HIM A RAPIST. GTFO WITH YOUR STRAW MAN.

No, I believe the women. But I don’t believe you. The unfounded accusations I referenced are YOURS, accusing Oprah of “knowingly and happily [hanging] out with a rapist and abuser”. You also claimed you’re “sure Oprah was very much aware of Harvey‘s reputation”.

Like I said, unfounded accusations. But you can get away with libeling a public figure can’t you?

I hope for your sake you never get the treatment you’re giving Oprah. What exactly is your issue with her? Must be something causing you to fabricate those vile accusations against her.

I don’t have an issue with Oprah in particular; I have an issue with the entire entertainment industry pretending they didn’t know any of this.

The fact you jumped from my comment to race...wow. Are you insulating I am a racist? That I was attacking her because she’s black? That’s sure what it sounded like to me.

Anyway, there is some smoke re: what Winfrey knew. Is there fire? Maybe. Probably. But I find the idea she knew nothing to be far fetched and I have no problem stating that. You should check your understanding of defamation as well.

I’m happy to have discussions about the issues, but I think it’s dirty pool to insinuate I’m a racist or that my opinions are based on racial animus.

Oh please, if I had left out “black” and called Oprah a rich, powerful woman, would you be claiming I was accusing you of being sexist?

If you felt I was insinuating you had issues with the rich, the powerful, blacks or women—that’s on you. Your projections are your own.
