Apple TV+ isn’t going to be the next big streaming business. They shouldn’t even have tried. They gave me a year for free and I still haven’t watched any of their shows. I would have rather they gave me a free year of Apple Arcade or Music for free instead. Don’t try to push your garbage on me when you are not a content creation company. They had their chance when they came out with iTunes and before Netflix had done the streaming side of their business and creating mostly great original content.
Servant is the only thing worth watching. The rest of their tiny catalog doesn’t come close to the quality of Netflix, HBO or even Amazon.

OK so far this whole thread only makes me want one of those $39 Zara jackets with "I don't really care, do u?" printed on the back...

And that's saying something. Because I do think #metoo really matters.

Sounds to me like Oprah had a point, and that Apple was right to let it go, too. Sometimes things need more fact checking, better interviews, more context or whatever and then they're a really great documentary. The filmmakers may have got too caught up in their own bubble of how the thing played to them, with part of the context only in their own heads. It's hard to realize that one has arrived into that sort of situation sometimes. Maybe needed more input from editors, who are sometimes taken more seriously than are producers.

Yes, no one can churn out mediocre-to-crap original content (and shows that are so drawn out they could've easily cut 3-5 episodes) at the rate Netflix currently does.
Someone is watching them because Netflix is still around after all these years and has a very strong catalog. Mindhunter, Ozark, and YOU are just some of the incredible shows they have. Apple doesn’t have a single show that comes close to the high quality offerings from Netflix.

Guess who isn’t giving away a year of service?

Uh ... yeah ...

Still, regardless - if true - if this picture was taken back in 2014 or recently ... I find if VERY difficult to believe a woman with such financial prowess, wealth, and influence on so many men, and woman across the globe that OPRAH would not have heard rumours even back then to be VERY cautious around this worm! Especially given her past of being raped horribly and the very difficulty of emotions affecting filming during The Color Purple!

Back on topic ... I think the 'creative' differences was simply that Oprah did not like the lack of ultimate control she's wanted and used to ... that's it really, imho.

I think Apple is off to a very solid start. I’ve only been watching The Morning Show & Servant..haven’t seen the others.

Season 1 of The Morning Show is excellent. The final episode was perfection and one of the best finales I’ve ever seen.

I trust Oprah's judgment. She is incredible.

I am very relieved to see that Apple is backing Oprah on this - it looks like Apple and Oprah made the decision to leave together. This ensures the other Oprah projects are safe - I really enjoy her book club show.

Apple wanna be like Netflix there's only one Netflix
Thank goodness there's only crap-fire known as Netflix. I have never seen so much crap content in one location as I have seen with Netflix. Apple TV+ is a breath of fresh air, and I very much look forward to what else is in store, if the current shows are anything to judge by.

Apple doesn't "wanna be like Netflix." They want to be like HBO. And they are killing it.

Netflix will be dead within 5 years, mark my words. They are crap and generic and have nothing worth watching. Stranger Things is the only thing they have going for them at this point.

For once I agree with you. They don't have a "single show" that is high quality like Netflix - they have 5 shows and counting that absolutely put Netflix to utter shame. I would be embarrassed if I was Netflix.

I’m not sure how you can type with pompoms in your hands. Your constant defense of Apple TV and criticism of Netflix is completely laughable. Netflix is the king of streaming. They don’t have to give away their service for free. You’re another sheep who apparently has awful taste in tv if you think Netflix is crap and somehow Apple TV is amazing. I ignore blind Apple cheerleaders. You’ve joined the list.

Netflix has put out its share of good shows and movies, but they've also thrown a ton of money at a ton of crap, too, and it's watered down their brand. They're very much a quantity over quality producers IMO. They have so many shows and movies that have excellent casts but subpar writing that's unworthy of them, or shows that could be great if they didn't contain multiple episodes of pure filler, or they cancel unique one of a kind shows like The OA before its time. If I see the Netflix label over a tv show or movie I might check it out (not currently subscribed though), but the label alone certainly won't entice me to watch it. It means nothing now.

I think it’s safer to say that Apple wants to be HBO over Netflix, with its focus on quality over quantity.

Netflix has its own share of issues and challenges and I think these will become more pronounced as the streaming wars heat up in the coming years.

Guess who isn’t giving away a year of service?

Guess who can afford to give away a year of service?

I think she’s saying it sucks "as is."

Oh, I’m sure Oprah was very much aware of Harvey‘s reputation. If you think she wasn’t aware of that history spanning some, oh, 20 years plus, I have a bridge to sell you.

She knowingly and happily hung out with a rapist and abuser. Not my concern, you understand, but I will forever enjoy photos like this demonstrating the hypocrisy of Hollywood.

Yeah, nice fantasy story there. Any proof or evidence of your stance, at all? The idea that everyone who knew him was knowledgeable of his habits is ludicrous.

The whole "Leaving Neverland" fictional movie (easy to prove) on the deceased Michael Jackson was a way for Oprah to take the heat off of her pal Harvey Weinstein.
Not exactly the type of person who should be doing any work on real abuse victims. She used them all, twice. Three times if you consider she looked the other way when her father was accused of something similar.

Makes sense.... Oprah's track record for films is awful and these are two acclaimed documentarians doing what they do best.

She's a massive fraud. She'll have the entire cast of her awful movie "A Wrinkle in Time" because its inoffensive nothingness but when she's no doubt pressured by people in the industry to back off of a film she buckles.

Explain ‘bumbling pass’ further.
(Couple by the copier) "Hey, I know you're married and I'm married, but I've seen the way you look at me. Why don't you stay after work and we can XXXX?"

If you say that to a woman and she does not reciprocate?

"Sexual misconduct."

Is it rape? Is it assault? Is the guy asking a "predator?" Is there anything illegal about this?

Nope.

Certainly in poor taste and inappropriate, but sometimes people misread signs and are awkward.

You want to accuse this person in my hypothetical of "sexual misconduct?"

Want to go ahead and destroy his life and make low-information people think he's a rapist?

I bet you would.

Fantasy?

Here's this story from Variety. https://variety.com/2018/music/news...nowing-about-weinstein-misconduct-1202661226/

Do I have 100% proof? Of course not.

Is it more likely than not that a prominent woman in the entertainment industry knew of Harvey's reputation?

I knew of Harvey's reputation years ago and I'm just some lawyer in the midwest.

If a nobody in the midwest had an inkling of all this, you don't think the most powerful woman in the entertainment industry knew?

Are you high?

I just don't understand everyone's rush to defend Oprah Winfrey. It's amazing.

Saint Oprah. The Precious.

I was very skeptical of AT+.

I've since watched a good deal of The Morning Show, Truth Be Told and Servant.

I will admit I was wrong and feel those three shows in particular are terrific and just better than most (but not all) of Netflix's catalog.

I agree Apple is looking to be more like HBO than Netflix and I think they going to succeed.

I continue to think See is trash though----I can understand what they were going for, but it's just so comically preposterous--armies of blind people riding horses and navigating them through vast stretches of the country.

Can't hit on all of them, but Apple is doing a really solid job.

This was a year after all that came to light ...
Good point. Must convict in court of public opinion before the trial!

Why on earth do people like Oprah? I just don’t get it.
She’s a harmless (non white male) billionaire with a relatable lifestyle (built an empire based on brand and emotion rather than tangible products or solutions but still struggles with weight loss) just like her large subset of fans (middle aged white women) who feel a connection (guilt over slavery, racism and overall poverty for all black women who will never have the chance to be an Oprah) with her...

or maybe they just like her.

If you haven't watched any of the shows, how do you know they're garbage?

I was very, very skeptical of ATV+ and thought they'd crash and burn, but I've found I like at least three of the offerings.

You can keep Apple Arcade---that to me is trash. Just bizarre, weirdo games by weirdo developers ("A zombie apocalypse road trip game" is how one is described, while another I think just simulates you being an awkward teen or pre-teen at a high school dance---great "game" you have there). It's the pink haired crowd who couldn't get their games made anywhere else.

Actually this scenario is most likely against corporate policy. Legality doesn’t even come into question.

Why TF would I try to “hook up” with a coworker WHILE AT WORK?!?? That is incredibly stupid.
-You are at work.
-On company time.
-They hired you to work.
-Not satisfy your emotional needs.

Your coworkers were not hired for your emotional needs. And if you don’t understand why this scenario should result in that person’s firing, then I cannot explain it further.

What are you even talking about? Are you reading things I'm not saying?

A question was asked---"give me an example of a 'bumbling pass.'"

I provided that example.

I indicated this would likely be called "sexual misconduct."

I did not mention being fired or corporate policy.

My whole point was to explain how amorphous the term "sexual misconduct" is.

It can refer to anything from a "bumbling pass" at a woman to rape.

It's an ill defined word that is so broad as to make it meaningless.

Other than that, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Were you not in class the day the teacher taught everyone else how to read and comprehend?

Did you miss that day?

Jesus.
