I must have been out of the loop up until this point. Wait a minute. So you're telling me that you can now access your iTunes library without an Apple TV? This is HUGE.

I guess they realised that to maximize potential viewers they needed to expand beyond iOS and Apple TVs.

They will probably lose some Apple TV sales but hopefully make that back in subscriptions.

Hopefully this will mean it will come to more devices and maybe one day plex.

Right. If they want to be successful in media, they can't restrict it to their own devices. And they are clearly investing much more in media production than in Apple TV hardware.

I have a Roku, was a bad choice. I'm Waiting for a new Apple TV to drop and then its gone.
Why don't you like it?

I use the apps on my TV so I don't have an opinion one way or another. Just curious to hear yours.

I hope that the next platform to receive the Apple TV+ service is Android TV devices.
Is AndroidTV still pretty well supported?

I believe that's what Sony uses on their TV's? Also I know the Shield is a popular choice. That's about the only knowledge I have of it.

Has anyone got this working on their ROKU TV yet? As of now, the Apple TV channel does not yet appear for me, and apparently for many others as well.

I followed Roku's instructions here to add the Apple TV Channel:

Its still not there

Just purchased a Fire Stick over the weekend purely to stream AT&Ts Watch TV app through my TCL Roku TV. Looks like I'll be returning the fire stick and downloading ATV. Much prefer this!

First experience: Installed the app via web account a few hours ago. Came down to my Roku and signed in now - worked first time. I signed in via a mobile device (my iPhone) which worked first time.

The UI seems slightly slow, but I'm happy this even runs on my 2013 Roku 3. I'm watching BladeRunner 2049 on it now. Image quality and sound quality is GREAT. Well done for taking one step out of the walled garden, Apple!

Update: went to compare quality with plex and it hard rebooted my Roku when I quit the AppleTV app .
I had to reconfirm I was happy with data usage on re-start. It had remembered my sign-in and position in the movie though. This was quitting by pressing the back button repeatedly. Pressing home from a movie whilst playing worked.

* On my 1080p TV, Streaming is comparable to Plex streaming a HD file from a local server - as in great!
* Fast forward and rewind seem sluggish - for example, pressing play to stop rewind led to it rewinding a further minute before realising play had been pressed.

Still, for a first version, impressive! I'll use this, and it lets my Roku still stream every service I use (Netflix, Amazon, NowTV, iPlayer, plex, and now iTunes)

Works for me now on Sharp and TCL Roku TVs. Can watch movies and TV shows from my iTunes Library.

Downloaded and signed in on my TCL Roku tv, but no apps? so I can’t download AT&T’s WatchTV app like I can on a set top ATV?

This is the Apple TV app. It only works with your iTunes library, your Apple TV Channels, and Apple TV+.

It is not a replacement for an Apple TV. If you want to watch the AT&T Watch TV app, you need to download that on the Roku store and use their app.

Apple Music has been available on Windows, Android, and the Amazon Echo for a while now.

I have a samsung TV and apple isn't listed for me either. Why is it only "select" TVs?
I'd assume that they may have to program for and QA test for every model of smart tv. There are hundreds of variations out there, it could take some time. Only three choices here: a full roll-out, partial roll-out as QA testing for each batch is complete or hold release until all QA testing is complete.
