That’s great news to me, we own 2 Roku devices already. I quite like my Roku since there are so many channels you can install already, many also having free content. I still have an old AppleTv that’s barely been used, it’s not even connected to any of our TVs anymore.

My iTunes/Apple TV spending is about to skyrocket now that I can access Apple content via Roku. Prudent business move!

Can anyone explain how to access the local iTunes library content on your computer from this app? I downloaded the app, signed in, and went to the library section, but it just says “you haven’t purchased any TV shows or movies”. I don’t see anything that allows me to access the iTunes library on my computer.

It isn't supported by the look of it. It just supports streaming TV series and movies that you've purchased from iTunes.

The app is for Apple movie/TV purchases, Apple TV+, and Apple TV Channels.

If you want to stream from your computer, either hope Roku supports AirPlay in the future or purchase an Apple TV.

In March we heard how Roku was ready to rollout Airplay2. Instead we get this app, which only plays purchased content, no Airplay and apparently no local libraries.
Installed easily on my Sharp 50” Roku TV, but feel like there is no point if you don’t have iTunes store content.

Just tried to install it on other roku tvs. Available for the 43” but not the 37” that are otherwise identical.

But without Airplay or local library support, or music support, it’s really a wasted opportunity and not worth worrying about for many people.

My feeling as well. I thought this would be great to stream content from my MBP or download apps not available on Roku (like at&t Watch TV), but neither option is available. Don't understand what ATV offers that Roku doesn't other than purchased iTunes content (which I don't buy). I gave up a standalone ATV 3 years ago for built in Roku and don't really miss it

AirPlay 2 was never officially announced by Apple or Roku. That's not to say that it won't be coming, but the TV app WAS announced, and is now out, a couple of weeks prior to the Apple TV+ launch.

I have three Roku TVs and two Apple TVs, and I don't want to put out the money for another ATV (yet), so this was VERY welcome news for me. I can now access my large iTunes library on my TV that doesn't have an Apple TV connected to it.

Considering that the current version of the app doesn't allow you to access iTunes Extras, there may not be any benefit to you personally, but you can connect your Movies Anywhere account to iTunes and at least get a library going.

Also, Apple has really great 4K sales, so it's a good way to get 4K movies, and I can see multiple people taking advantage of that now.

And yet my mother's Samsung 'Smart' TV doesn't have the app available. Funny. There's an app for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, the Spectrum app, and Vudu, but NOT Apple TV? Stupid. I just want to watch the movies I have purchased. No reason why there's no app for ALL Samsung TV's.

Unlike Vizio and Roku TVs, the app on MOST smart TVs is relegated to current models only.

This is the Apple TV app. It only works with your iTunes library, your Apple TV Channels, and Apple TV+.

It is not a replacement for an Apple TV. If you want to watch the AT&T Watch TV app, you need to download that on the Roku store and use their app.

Apple Music has been available on Windows, Android, and the Amazon Echo for a while now.

And on that note, Apple should start bringing over Apple Music and Apple Podcasts to other brand TVs and sticks as well!

Holy crap! I just added the channel to my 6series TCL and I'll be darned if I'm not getting 4K/HDR! Now, I don't have Atmos as an option for this display, so maybe someone else can confirm - but this is a pretty big deal in my head. While the UI is a poor man's substitute for the actual ATV4K device, if you can actually stream the same 4KHDRAtmos content without it, that would be a fascinating development.

I was browsing the store on Roku when I came across the Apple TV app. I looked it up and found out I could also get a year of Apple TV+ free, since I have just purchased a new iMac. So installed Apple TV on the Roku and happily watched all episodes of "For All Mankind" that have been made available so far. I'm glad Apple did this, as I was never going to buy an Apple TV device. I so much more prefer the Roku.
