I don't pay $200+ on TV from Xfinity/Comcast but it now costs more to get my local sports channels.
Not a cord cutter as in our house the TV is on all day. Yeah, like a baby sitter for adults.
With streaming I would go over my data cap all the time.
Not sure whatever prompted Apple to create the Apple TV box and Apple TV Plus.
Yes, MGM is part of Amazon, since I don't see that anyone has answered that.
I think it’s worth it if you’re actually watching TV. If I spent hours a day, I would pay $200 for cable, which is what it cost in my area. It’s just the fact that I might watch 30 minutes a day TV. I can get just as much entertainment watching YouTube.

I think data caps suck because it’s just a tool cable providers use to make it more difficult to cut the cord. In the USA there are so many monopolies when it comes to cable TV and Internet. It’s weird how they get an exception.

I think you're more tolerant of this tactic than I am. I call it bait and switch - get 'em hooked cheap, then jack up the price when they have to see the next episode after the trial runs out.
I just think you’re looking at it in a more cynical light. Any type of trial that doesn’t cost full price is designed to get you to want to buy the product. Whether that’s getting you hooked like drugs or just determining whether you want to buy it or not is different way to look at it. Think of if you had to buy a car before you can drive it. You can drive that car for free as a test but obviously you’re not going to keep it for free. Is the dealer trying to get you hooked on that nice car? Absolutely!

With something like Netflix or Apple TV you can use a free trial to see if you like anything and then if you don’t just cancel it. Ideally they want you to keep watching so you keep paying. There is also a cynical viewpoint that they hope you just forget that you subscribed and keep paying even though you don’t watch it. That kind of reminds me of a gym membership but at least you don’t have a contract with a TV streaming service.

I cancelled my subscription when they jacked up the annual fee. Last night I rejoined (for only 3 months) and bing watched Your Friends and Neighbours. A good show. Next I'll watch Severance.

That is how I often feel about Chromebooks. I think we continue to sing the Post Covid Blues.
I'm not willing to cough up any additional money than what Xfinity TV gets already.
I'm waiting patiently for Apple TV Plus to offer a cheaper ad based version like so many others.
Still don't want it but looking forward to Apple joining the crowd.
The last thing I would ever want is an ad-based version!

I actually really like there content lately. Things like severance, silo, presume innocent, dope thief and black bird. And upcoming show Smoke looks interesting
Gave The Studio a chance. Laugh out loud funny. I’m not a huge Seth Rogan fan but he struck gold on this one. The cameos are great. Scorcese, Buscemi, Zac Efron and Ron Howard too. MLB on Friday nights and the last season of Mythic Quest. Slow Horses.
3 months for $8.97? It’s a no brainer. But I’m not paying $9.99 a month.
Time for an ad supported tier. JMO.

Saw this the other day, $2.99 a month isn't a bad price for someone to see if they like the content or binge watch..
The fact that most of Apple studio content is unique and in some cases award winning along with a complete lack of ads, access to theatrical films and an array of award worthy documentaries, paying $2.99 is a bargain when compared to Netflix, Max or others

Well, feel free to feel your long term loyalty doesn't merit the same discount new money gets.

I’m not against giving loyal customers some type of discount, but that’s usually rare in business. I’m not sure why it’s not a bigger thing. I know some auto brands will give loyal customers a discount, but that’s the only time I’ve ever heard it.

I got a discount when I originally signed up for Apple TV+. I think I got six months free so better than what they are offering.

The only thing similar to what you’re describing that annoys me is when cable companies give you the first year at a lower rate and then double your price. That’s annoying. I know people that cancel their cable once a year just to get the lower rate. I don’t think Apple is doing the same thing here because it’s just a one or two months at a lower rate.

Steve Jobs had once explained why Apple didn’t have sales for their products. Consumers perceive your real value based off your lowest offered price.
It’s been nearly a decade and a half since Steve Jobs left us, yet some folks are still out here quoting him like he’s a tech messiah whose gospel will save us all, even as the world has sprinted past his era into AI, foldables, and tech he never imagined.

Apple TV+ is currently available at a much lower price than usual, but time is running out if you want to take advantage of the offer.

In the U.S., new and qualified returning customers can subscribe to Apple TV+ for just $2.99 per month, for three months. Afterwards, regular pricing of $9.99 per month applies. The offer is available in the Apple TV app, and at tv.apple.com, through April 24. Unfortunately, existing subscribers are not eligible to receive the discount.

The promotion is running in other countries, too. In Canada, for example, the special price is set at $3.99 per month. In the U.K., it is set at £2.99.

With an Apple TV+ subscription, you can watch all of Apple's original shows and films. You can also watch select MLB and MLS games with weekly Friday Night Baseball and Sunday Night Soccer doubleheaders, at no additional cost.

Even if it were free I still wouldn't sign up for it. Apple has the weirdest content I've ever experienced. The only decent show was The Morning Show and they took so long to come out with additional seasons that it lost interest from those who liked it, including me.

Looks like the deal's also available at Amazon Prime, same end date. I may grab it there, to catch up on some shows I started with the free trial I got after I bought my iPad. Since I won't be using my Apple login, I might qualify for another trial later when the next Apple TV comes out, which I plan to buy ;)

What tech do you think we have now that Steve Jobs hadn’t imagined?

Literally everything we have now was imagined decades, and decades ago

Even though being expensive doesn’t equate being high in quality. Steve Jobs isn’t entirely correct but not entirely wrong either.

Fair enough, many concepts do have long-standing roots.

My point was more about how the tech landscape has evolved beyond the kind of centralized, visionary leadership Jobs represented. Today’s advancements, especially in AI and adaptive tech feel more driven by global collaboration and emergent systems than by singular figures.

I think we’re probably looking at this from fundamentally different perspectives, so I’ll leave it there. Thanks for sharing your view.

It is a small hassle. But quitting a streaming service when they raise the rate always results in an email from customer retention, with an offer for less than I was paying, sometimes way less. A week after I quit Peacock, I got an email offering me a year @ $2.99/month!

This same deal is available via Amazon Prime Video, you can subscribe to Apple TV+ through them rather than directly, which I did, its actually a much better experience (assuming one has Amazon Prime Video already to add it to).

I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs did not say or convey that. I would be interested in seeing your reference.

I'm gonna sign up for this to watch baseball. I am wondering if Apple might make Apple TV free with ads to expand viewership.

If you've never watched anything on Apple TV, it's worth the 6 bucks for 3 months. But if you've subbed before and watched most of what you were interested in, it's a waste of 6 bucks.

I just checked to see if anything interesting has been added since last year and I wouldn't even pay 1 dollar a month. I wouldn't even take it up if it were free for one month. I'd just be wasting my time watching something I'm only half interested in, instead of doing something productive.

Edit: I notice some poster saying they do live sports... huh. Didn't know that. If you're interested in that sport, it's definitely worth it if you can't see it elsewhere.
