Yeah, good luck watching those on your phone or tablet, which is how many people, especially kids, consume content.

Maybe they have the discs, maybe they don’t...Disney obviously knows better and has bet big on this. They certainly don’t have discs for Mandalorian and something like 30 seasons of the Simpsons and all of it in one easy interface ready to watch on any device. Preliminary numbers of nearly 30M in 10wks confirms it‘s a blowout success.

Disney has limitless content...Avengers was one example. Make a list of all the content Disney owns and let me know when you run out of ink.

If content is your concern, that’s the wrong concern, IMO.

Netflix should be the one worried about content.

While Netflix is in decline, the content is superior to Disney+. Let's examine. Disney+ content is all the stuff we already seen. New content is minimal and bland. Yes, the Mandalorian is "ok" but the plot is thin and with 8 episodes at 30-40 minutes a pop, leaves a lot to be desired.

Netflix releases new content for all audiences frequently, some are duds while others are hits. The key here is new content for all audiences. How many times are you going to rewatch The Last Jedi? Reruns get old quick. Disney has a long way to go.

You are incorrect. I am the target audience for Disney+ I love Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney World. They are just putting out way too much child focused originals. It’s mind boggling. It’s like if Apple made 9 shows like Helpsters and ghostwriter and forgot to put out their universally acclaimed shows like Little America and Servant. Oh, you should get out more - of the people who are actually heard about Apple TV+ and given the shows a chance (outside of tech forums like this one where tons of people like to be risqué and take the contrary opinion, or love Apple bashing, etc. t_d) people love the shows.

No you're not. If you were, you wouldn't be whining right now. Parents and people who enjoy their old catalog seem to be fine with it.

You can keep trying to convince yourselves and others that the small accolades AppleTV+ receives warrants something, but they have to focus on branding, device expansion, and replayable content.

Kids will watch things over and over...that’s important and a big part of Disney+. People love the Disney content and there is a lot of it. You may have seen some if it, but it’s so good, you’ll watch it again and kids will for sure.

They’ll work on getting more and more new content too. Disney isn’t new to creating, buying and reimagining content. That’s their business. From a content perspective, Disney has no issues.

And let’s be serious. The reception for Mandalorian has been far better than “OK.” Your bias is too obvious here if you’re not going to even acknowledge that.

I have an older Apple TV, the one just prior to the one that includes the fancy new remote and it's abandoned. I can't sync it proper with my iMac anymore nor can I access certain streaming services on it.

The Apple TV was always a side hobby to Apple but if they are going to be in the streaming business now they need to put this thing back on their radar big time.
You can still watch Apple TV + on that old Apple TV.

No bias here. I canceled Netflix to get Disney+. The Mandalorian is good but not amazing IMHO. The big reveal of showing his face was a yawner and now we all wait to see where baby Yoda comes from. The plot is flimsy but it is entertaining.

Disney needs more new content ASAP!

Disney is doing fine as evident by their subscription growth. If you read Iger’s statement, they are not trying to be another Netflix nor are they targeting Netflix users. You need to be more open minded to understand their business goals.

How would you know? Are you a fan of Imagineering? I bet I’m more the target audience than you are, as you clearly haven’t seen as much Disney content as this Disneyfan.

That’s your opinion. Mandalorian has been very well received. Disney content speaks for itself. They will get subscribers if they just Put what they release every year on it. Remember, they aren’t trying to be Netflix.

I very much enjoyed The Mandalorian. My only gripe was that for much of the series I found it difficult to connect with, or care about, a faceless protagonist. For me it was a bit of a disconnect and made the whole thing very impersonal. But still a great 8/10 show.

I never said I was the target audience, so that conclusion doesn’t have any value.

Disney fans typically enjoy repeat material. It’s why they goto the theme parks over and over and don’t really get bored. It’s why they attend D12 and are ecstatic about (re)watching all the content. It’s why parents love this service because the family backlog is large, and they can show their kids their childhood content.

This Disney service really is not targeting the person who ONLY wants the newest / adult content. That profile (you) is volatile and will return when they want to return.

I could care less about their business goals. As a consumer, I want a good product.

Maybe spend less time bowdlerizing and more time making things people want to watch?

That's the rub, eh? Everyone wants something different. I'd like them to add sports to TV+. Someone else wants kids shows; another scifi and so on...

I Mean that I can just do without all the extra profanity and unnecessary adult themes throughout some of those “nominated” shows. If the story line is good, why have all that stuff in there?
Because it is bland and unrealistic without it?

I think it’s more that Disney doesn’t have to be Netflix. Disney has a huge library of content that they own and thus don’t have to pay princely sums to license the way Netflix does. They also own impressive IP like star wars and marvel which is already half the battle won when it comes to attracting eyeballs. And this all complements their other businesses such as theme parks and merchandising.

The downside is that this also means their content is going to very focused and may well prove unappealing to viewers who aren’t interested in those titles. Netflix brings in content from all over the place and you sometimes discover gems like a Chinese martial arts drama I am currently watching called “Handsome siblings” and enjoying very much. I doubt I will see this on Disney ever.

This is Disney’s strength, this is also Disney’s weakness.

I subscribed at launch of Disney+ and cancelled a week later. As an adult I found little new or original stuff to watch. Maybe in a year I’d resubscribe for a month, binge then quit again. Netflix gives tons of new original content every month. HBO Max is going to give you tons of new original content monthly. You get every HBO show plus tons of other stuff. Apple TV+ even give you more original shows right now thanDisney. At least for adults! I subscribe to Netflix, Prime, pple TV+ and HBO Now. I get TV through YouTube TV.

You should rephrase your answer such that you think a good product is just having new content.

And that I think is partially the reason Disney has this service. Imagine Disney+ being accessible wherever you go subliminally messaging the Disney brands. There is a bigger play here than just another streaming service.

Disney doesn’t care about Netflix as much as what media outlets want you to think. The pragmatic approach is that it’s expected most households will have multiple subs that fluctuate depending on their desires

I believe Disney+ also plays the strategic role of being home to projects that would otherwise be too risky for larger budget movies. Consider the upcoming marvel tv shows like the scarlet witch or falcon + winter soldier series. I don’t think they will have the star power to draw in the crowds the same way Spider-Man or Thor does, but they make perfect sense for a streaming service where consumers are already subscribed anyways, while serving to advance the marvel storyline.

Maybe parents of pre-teens and teens who bought their DVDs/Blu-Rays 5 years go (or longer.) Do you think there is not a new set of parents with the target audience that would love to pay less than $150 a year and get access to 100s of classic kids movies? They may be begging for the day of VHS when tapes would eventually wear out.

Too many people can't think beyond their own situation. I get that the internet skews to a younger audience, but there are millions of parents of young children that would love to be able to show their kids the classics.
They should have a feature for parents where once you watch something, that exact movie or episode is locked from being replayed for a set amount of time :D
