Current mindset is yes, I would keep it. But, in all honesty, the service is mainly for my Missus.
If she stops watching stuff on it, then I will cancel the subscription...

will you renew/ keep up subscription for those 2? I'd like to see the next seasons but not worth keeping a subscription active to me

Honestly I find Netflix a bigger failure. The only show that is a Netflix Original I have enjoyed in the last few years is Stranger Things. That is just one show out of a BIG list.

And that's a big talking point right there. In terms of QUANTITY...Netflix wins. Hands down, no argument. In terms of QUALITY...I'd say TV+ has it. Easily.

Though I'm not much into reboots of old shows, the Netflix reboot of Lost In Space was quite good.

I am going to renew, but pay annual subscription ($49.99 instead of $4.99) so that I don't think about it much.

So far I watched and really enjoyed:
  • Central Park
  • Defending Jacob
  • Dickinson
  • For All Mankind
  • The Morning Show
  • Mythic Quest
And I quite liked:
  • Greyhound
  • Here We Are
  • Little America
Disappointed by:
  • Amazing Stories
  • Home Before Dark
  • See
And I am really looking forward to:
  • Foundation
  • Lisey's Story
  • Masters of the Air
  • On the Rocks
  • Pachinko
  • The Shrink Next Door
  • Time Bandits

Shame that See is all that Jason Momoa has left to act in. I miss his kick ass attitude on Stargate: Atlantis

See started out very promising enough. I dig post apocalyptic action genre and while it was a bit wonky here and there (e.g., "let's pray"), I enjoyed each episode enough to anticipate the next episode.

But once the gang reached the House of Enlightenment, the series just crumbled into a generic, cliched action series.

I think [?] these are all originals, either produced or partnered from a non-domestic source, but they're all pretty terrific, wide range, sci-fi, comedy (both lighter weight and dark), historical, crime drama:

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Mindhunter
GLOW
Dark
Russian Doll
Peaky Blinders
The Crown
Bloodline
Ozark
Narcos
Altered Carbon
Locke and Key
Haunting of Hill House
BoJack Horseman
Dead to Me
Maniac

And that's without getting into the movie selection, we watch quite a bit of horror flicks, do pretty regular rewatches on faves, and well, Netflix has a massive selection in that capacity :)

Plus their HUGE back catalog of other series we've enjoyed catching up on, re-watching, etc. (Bates Motel, Hannibal, Community, Breaking Bad, etc.), which is why it's' a good "value" for us, if it was just originals, movies and shows, (like ATV+), we probably wouldn't subscribe.

Obviously, YMMV. :)

I think ATV+ __really__ needed some content from other sources, not unlike a Netflix, Prime, HBO/HBOMAX, it needs to be more of a destination, vs. just seeking out very specific (and limited) programming. That's where Netflix is strong, you can just go to Netflix and get originals, movies, docs, old and new catalog, tons of terrific foreign film - it's like a network unto itself.

Agreed, but instead of licensing rights to well known contents from the US, I think Apple should license contents from other countries. There are so many beloved series outside US, and Netflix tapped some good contents from Canada, Japan, South Korea, Spain and more. But there are still a ton more to go around.

For domestic, I think Apple should do something similar to Fraggle Rocks. License the back catalog but reboot the series as Apple TV+ Original.

The launching of new content is too sparse to keep up with the likes of Netflix. Furthermore, save The Morning Show, most of the content is mediocre or downright bad. Even the Tom Hanks movie is average and below expectations. 70 million for that? Crazy!

You do realize that Greyhound was supposed to release in theaters right?

I wouldn't call Apple TV+ a complete failure. But, having said that, I received my one-year subscription for free when I bought my iPhone 11. I don't think I plan on extending that subscription once I have to begin paying for it.

It seems that every streaming channel has one or two things that are their "must see" items. Everything else is kind of just okay. I'm taking a pass on similar services from ABC/Disney and CBS for similar reasons. Whether one still has cable or is a cord-cutter, the price of having a number of separate streaming services adds up fast.

I still have cable because it still makes sense for me, given my priorities. We subscribe to a tier that includes HBO, Showtime and Starz. If my wife didn't insist on them, I would dump HBO and Showtime. Outside of cable, I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. That's way more than enough. Apple TV+ doesn't seem to offer enough that I care about to warrant replacing Netflix or Prime - at least not yet.

It's not a failure. But I will hold off on subscribing again when my free year is up... when sufficient content is available, I will re-up for a month or two to binge watch and get caught up... then unsubscribe. Have done the same with Netflix in the past.

Got the year free trial with the purchase of a new MBA. All I've watched was Greyhound.
Too much content you have to pay for. I doubt I'd renew. S

If you got a free year of tv+, there is no content you have to pay for. That's the point of a free year, isn't it?

This leads us to the heart of the matter. The Apple TV+ app is a train wreck. In Apple's mind, TV+ is an aggregator app that also contains its own content. That said, it's laid out in a totally confusing way, and the free content is intermixed with the paid content from other providers.

To @Sword86's point, it does APPEAR that there is paid content associated with Apple, when in fact, it's content from other providers. @Nütztjanix is correct in that the free year gives you access to all of Apple's content within the app. The paid content is NOT from Apple, but that point is not very clear, as the layout is horrendous.

Yes, that's entirely correct and an often criticized fact. The distinction between original content and content from other providers like Prime, Netflix and the like is marginal, bordering on non-existent. That is a part of the TV app that desperately needs improving on.

So, given the information in the two posts above this one, I guess that's not the point of a free year after all, is it? :). I'm not dumping on you, just shaking my head at the money-making machine known as Apple.

And did you know that if you purchase one of the other streaming services via Apple TV+, you cannot gain access to the native apps of those third-party services. If you buy via Apple TV+, you stay with Apple TV+. Frankly, I don't see this working out long term - at least not exactly like this. You know Apple is taking at least a third of the fee to the third-party service. Many publications are pulling out of Apple News for the same reason.

It's too bad we can't just buy the ATV+ shows that are interesting. Forego the subscription and buy them outright. I took advantage of the free year to enjoy For All Mankind, which so far is all i'm interested in on ATV+. Given the extreme wait for season 2 (if there is one) I'd rather have just bought the show.

I worry about if this service flops, will the shows go with it? Or will they be available to purchase? Anyone remember a show called 'Cold Case?' (not Cold Case Files but the show starring Kathryn Morris) that show is unobtainable on DVD/Blu-Ray since it had tons of licensed music as part of its plots. A shame a show I grew fond of I only started to get into in its last two seasons. Now it's gone forever. Will a similar fate happen to ATV+ shows if the service is canned?
