Life has gotten incredibly expensive and for most people their pay hasn't kept up.

People aren't cheap ... they are getting squeezed to death.
People want everything for nothing. It’s been that way for a while regardless of the economy. A lot of entitlement in the world. If the cost of a streaming service is what’s breaking their budget then they have much bigger financial problems. It’s not the subscriptions that are squeezing people to death. They are not “need to haves”.

I would consider resubscribing if Apple TV had all the old WB cartoons I grew up with as a kid. Hard to find good kids shows nowadays that don’t have a political lean. What happened to Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo just doing stuff

No, we don't at all.

Why do you care about this issue so much, to the point of posting about piracy in nearly every single thread about streaming and content?
That is Eddy Cue’s secret burner account.

But seriously, I’ve wondered the same. If one were a shareholder, or original Apple TV content creator you’d probably want something a company invests in, that you invest in, to not be pirated. Other than that angle I can’t think of a reason to care so much… other than morality of course.

no one brought up piracy in this thread before you commented 🤷‍♂️
Not true.

On page 1 you responded to a comment made by Apple-achian in which piracy was mentioned. Both his comment and your reply were posted before I made any comments or replies. There are at least three other comments referencing piracy in one form or another prior to my first comment. 🤷‍♂️

News is another example. Starting in the mid-'90s, most newspapers started posting all of their articles online for free. Then they were shocked -- shocked! -- when people dropped their subscriptions or never signed up in the first place. By the time they started putting up paywalls, they had conditioned a couple of generations to expect news to be free. 🤦🏻‍♂️

But if Apple steals it's fine.
Putting words in my mouth? Not nice to twist someone's words because a person might not like what has been said.

Putting words in someone mouth is a sign of a weak position and frequently an attempt to create an impression among others that something has been said or implied that hasn't.

Stealing is stealing no matter who is doing it. I made that quite clear.

Yea it seems, and to top it, you figured you'd come to an internet apple forum to clarify it. The irony.

They’ll buy a film studio but they can’t even update Mac Pro.
What do those two things have to do with each other? And I don't recall the article or Apple saying they were buying anything. The article speculated that they COULD BE INTERESTED in doing so in whole or part. That is all it said.

Apple would likely have the easiest time financing the purchase. BUT do they REALLY want to be in the content business to this degree? I don't think they do.

what does this have to do with apple acquiring Warner brothers? if people want pirated content they go on Pirate Bay and torrent it 🤷‍♂️
It was a response to several other comments made prior to mine that referenced piracy in some way. One of them was yours.

I am going to stop our conversation before I run afoul of the rules here. Have a great day!

So Apple is going to spend 40 billion in cash for WB? How will they recoup this cost? Why would WB be selling if streaming was so profitable?

It would be nice to add such a catalogue but not many companies are doing as well as they hoped with streaming.
Nope, Apple isn't doing that. lol

AI too, right?

All the AI companies everyone is hailing and wanting Apple to "partner with" ... we should string them all up for mass theft and piracy, correct?
I agree with you here. And piracy surprisingly has had some good side effects for example people in poor countries having access to science and literature books that otherwise aren't available in local public libraries or bookstores another aspect is the preservation of media that’s been banned, modified or simply deleted from online stores.

Good grief.
  1. I heard that Apple is going to adopt Windows after acquiring Microsoft on some Twitter thread.
  2. Eddie Cue says “well, I personally never say never as a rule.”
  3. MR: aPpLe WaNtS tO bUy MiCrOsOfT!
yep, its pretty stupid. Apple's biggest acquisition has been like 3 billion. Beats probably. No way they pay tens of billions for what is a losing business.

You are making some very large assumptions and conclusions that do not seem to be supported by the complete lack of facts in the article. All the article does is speculate and repeat rumors. Fling the spaghetti on the wall and seeing if it sticks is a well known strategy for getting clicks and sustaining reader interest, but it is still spaghetti on the wall
The chief assumption I am making is the ask price for Apple, which will be larger than the price they could have paid for Paramount in any event -- about $50 billion vs $18 billion. If there is something more specific you're talking about, please elucidate.

I still wish Apple had tried to purchase Paramount. But I'll take WB. WB has been a good partner for AppleTV so far (See Ted Lasso), and their massive catalog could be perfect. Merge HBO Max into AppleTV, and you've got one great powerhouse for entertainment.

Because stealing other people's content is a crime as it should be. Have you ever made a living producing, writing or creating content be it books, articles, videos, movies, etc.? I don't think you would ask why if you had.

I don't care what the streamers charge. If I think it is too expensive or simply not worth what they are charging, I pass on it. I don't steal it. There is no excuse despite the insane rationalizations I frequently read when this kind of a topic comes up. The irony is in forums like this there are large numbers of participants who make their living producing one kind of content or another. Yet, when it is content owned, controlled or otherwise distributed by someone else or a big corporation they think stealing it is okay because they don't like the price.
Pretty sure the production companies and executives are screwing content creators and their audience over more than anyone else. To "pass on it" does not make anyone money either. Some kid that can't afford 5 streaming services is definitely not the problem and shouldn't be criminalized. Executives not paying actors, musicians, and other content creators when they're taking home millions should be.

This is another factor I’m glad that you pointed out.

Many folks have fewer qualms with piracy because of how much the actual talent is getting screwed anyways.

I’m not really here to argue the pros and cons or merits of that view, but I can understand it.
