Apple's in a different boat than traditional media companies who offer streaming services. TV+ is one part of their larger services portfolio, an area that makes up an increasingly large part of Apple's revenue ($96 billion for FY 2024).So Apple is going to spend 40 billion in cash for WB? How will they recoup this cost? Why would WB be selling if streaming was so profitable?
It would be nice to add such a catalogue but not many companies are doing as well as they hoped with streaming.
Steve Jobs wouldn't recognize this version of Apple.
oh I thought you were himNot true.
On page 1 you responded to a comment made by Apple-achian in which piracy was mentioned. Both his comment and your reply were posted before I made any comments or replies. There are at least three other comments referencing piracy in one form or another prior to my first comment. 🤷♂️
Apple was not interested in Paramount because they would have to buy CBS, and that includes CBS News and CBS Sports, something that Apple likely does not want.Apple missed a golden opportunity to buy Paramount on the dirt cheap. Now they are in the sweepstakes to pay a massive premium for Warner Brothers Discovery. Just seems like there is something amiss with Apple's decision making.
I see no one defending it but the posters who harp on it in every thread to do with streaming are just repeating the same old meme. Just stay on topic is all.No. It is not okay no matter who is doing it and those defending it in some way, however vague it may be, are condoning it. Stealing is not okay nor is turning a blind eye to it. A thief is a thief whether they steal a dime or a million dollars or whether it comes out of an individual's pocket or a corporation's pocket.
"Must it be brought up in every single streaming thread?"
It's brought up in every one of these threads because someone always defends stealing content and there are a lot of creators on these forums who have been seriously economically harmed by piracy and related behaviors.
Yes you have…ad nauseam……Putting words in my mouth? Not nice to twist someone's words because a person might not like what has been said.
Putting words in someone mouth is a sign of a weak position and frequently an attempt to create an impression among others that something has been said or implied that hasn't.
Stealing is stealing no matter who is doing it. I made that quite clear.

Most analysts believe TV+ actually loses Apple money, but it helps add value to Apple One subscription bundles with services that are quite profitable, like iCloud and Music. And those bundles lock users into Apple's ecosystem and in turn will drive hardware sales.
So Apple doesn't need to make money or recoup its costs on TV+ itself, it can instead treat it as a value add to drive more profitable Apple One bundle subscriptions and hardware sales. That changes the economics considerably compared to making the streaming service on its own profitable.
Steve Jobs was a well respected win-win negotiator If he was alive he'd solve the streaming crisis in a heartbeat and put them all under one roof like he did to the music industry with iTunes.Discovery is the absolute worst dreck on cable. A very long time ago it was actually really good. With legitimate documentarles. But since at least the the mid 2000s it's just been reality TV garbage and anti-science fake documentaries like 'Mermaid:body found".
I know it's been said once or twice before. But Steve Jobs wouldn't recognize this version of Apple.
Paramount has a deep catalogue and a first class studio. AND, it was much less expensive. Apple could have bought it cheap and sold off the broadcast license. Those of you who say Apple should have bought Paramount, I ask why??? I mean, what did Paramount have to offer that Warner Bros. doesn’t? Warner Bros. has HBO and DC Studios as well as, Looney Toons and all their other cartoon franchises, not to mention all their award winning classic timeless movies. I just don’t get what Discovery did to such a well respected brand and why it was allowed. With Apple at the helm, things would be so much better. Maybe they would go in with their new business partner, Comcast, to make something happen. But here is something I feel is overlooked with all this, why is Comcast even showing any interested in Warner Bros. Discovery at all when they are struggling and as such, are in the process of separating their cable assets (and except Bravo and their sports networks) from NBCUniversal? Maybe it has something to do with their partnership with Apple (you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours). If both companies would go in on a deal, then it might actually be worth it. Apple gets what they want and Comcast gets what they want, which could translate to a boost in both of their sports offerings and Apple finally having a studio for their own in-house movies and shows.
I doubt Apple would give up DC, but then again, I could see Amazon trying to make some sort of a deal with Apple for DC, whether that is a complete buy out of DC or simply just to have a good stake in DC. Now then, if Amazon would agree to take the cable assets off their hands (except for HBO) for DC, I could then see Apple possibly budging, but then they would have to offer more than just that to make a deal. Honestly, I doubt either Amazon or Apple would want any of their cable assets other than HBO, so maybe it would all come down to sports. I mean, TNT and TBS do have a lot of sports offerings that could make buying the cable channel assets worth it to someone like Amazon. If they do split up the company, I could see Apple taking HBO and some WB studios assets and maybe some of their catalog. I see DC, the remaining WB assets, and CNN going to Amazon. I see Netflix taking all the Discovery content and Cartoon Network.
If warner sells the movie section of the business they will probably sell DC too. Makes no sense to sell Warner Bros and get out of the movies business but keeping DC Studios. I think Discovery wants to keep the trash TV portion of the business but if they want to sell everything Netflix will probably buy the reality tv shows. If they do split up the company, I could see Apple taking HBO and some WB studios assets and maybe some of their catalog. I see DC, the remaining WB assets, and CNN going to Amazon. I see Netflix taking all the Discovery content and Cartoon Network.
