Wish I could offer my thoughts but my FedEx package is still not ready for pickup. Hasn't even been scanned since it left TN over 24 hours ago.

That $17 was even more of a waste than I thought yesterday ....
Better than having it show as delivered, but nothing being there at your front door!!:mad:

Any way to change the white background?
I want simple black.
The list view in local iTunes movies is horrible.
Much nicer if Apple allowed for a grid view and background color change.

I ordered my Apple TV 4 earlier in the week with the expectation that it would likely be returned - as I wasn't sure it would offer me sufficient incremental value over my ATV3. Well I think i was wrong.......

1. I love the interface - much improved, crisper on screen etc
2. The remote is great and I find the touchpad very easy to use and responsive
3. Not sure if something was missing setup wrong on old box.... but now when I turn on the ATV4 it automatically switches on my Samsung soundbar (ATV is connected to sounder which is in turn connected to TV) and likewise turns it off when I put ATV to sleep. Sounds small, but makes getting everything up and running so much easier. The volume buttons on the remote also control my TV volume (didn't have to set anything up)

Questions
1. How can you tell how much charge is left on the remote?
2. How long do you leave charging for/know when full? I couldn't see any provided instructions on this.
3. Is there any way of using iPhone as a keyboard for typing?

I have the ATV 4 hooked up to my Samsung TV via HDMI and my Samsung Soundbar outputting from the TV via an optical cable. The sound works fine and my TV supports all the required HDMI protocols. Could you tell me how you got the TV on function working and also the volume on your soundbar working. Right now I neither are working. I've tried getting the ATV to 'learn' the volume up and down IR signals from the Soundbar remote but it simply does not work. Any advice would be awesome!!

Anyone figure out how to get siri to search apple music? We got spoiled with Aexa and were hoping for the same with ATV?

Do you not keep up with Apple news? Apple Music integration is coming after the new year (http://www.buzzfeed.com/brendanklin...arch-will-soon-include-apple-musi#.bkgGDLV50Q).

I'm enjoying the ATV4 quite well. Not sure why everyone's complaining about the keyboard. I can swipe through it pretty quickly and I've only been using it a few minutes. Why do the space and backspace keys need to be next to each other? I don't usually hit them in sequence, so UX-wise, it makes sense to me to balance them with one on either side. Just swipe quickly a few times and you get to either side since it doesn't wrap around. That would have been annoying to always miss it. I also LOVE that they added "recent" after you've entered your email address once. I used to hate having to re-enter it every time for different login sections. Now I just typed it in once when signing into iCloud and then I can go to "recent" each additional time I need it.

If you don't want the sound effects when browsing between icons, etc., then turn it off. It's called "Sound effects and music" in the audio and video settings.

Apple Trailers are located in the App Store. Look for "iTunes Movie Trailers."

Sound quality is great. I'm not having any issues so far with the touch pad. Definitely need to work on my directionality, otherwise I'll never get very far in Crossy Road. Heh.

Lack of apps is on developers, not on Apple. If you look it up, tvOS development didn't come out that long ago, so all of those missing apps that people are complaining about can show up anytime the developer makes it a priority to develop it for tvOS. As far as categories, maybe there really aren't enough apps yet to go crazy with categories. On the featured screen there are a few categories, but searching with generic terms has worked for me so far. Just search by a single letter and browse around for a bit.

Remember, this is Day 1 of the product being available. Give it a little bit of time.

Three biggest complaints so far:

1) Touch interaction model is backwards. The screen responds in the opposite direction expected. Should match that on OS X and iOS.

2) App switcher would be cool if not for the fact that it feels like a four year old iPad. By the time you switch back to another app, it's lost its cache and you're taken to its home screen instead of to the show or movie you were watching. Let the complaints begin that it doesn't have enough RAM.

3) Home Sharing, as expected, is crap. The same UI we've had for the last eight years. Fortunately you can replace their monstrosity with Plex, and pair it with the newly available SimpleX Apple TV app for just $3.

Can anyone tell me- can you record purchased (or rented) shows/movies from Itunes to the harddrive to watch later? Or is it stream only?

I've had a couple appleTV's in the past, as well as Roku- all of which became essentially worthless when I moved to an area where my only internet is sattelite or tethered cellular. But- if I can set the appleTV to download and record in the mornings when bandwidth is good, and then watch from the harddrive in the evenings when bandwidth sucks...

I downloaded the SpeedTest App and ran some tests. When I have the ATV4 connected via wired network to my AirportExtreme 802.11ac I can get at best about 40-45Mbps speed on my 100Mbps TWC connection. I pull the e-net cable and attach it to the same AP via 802.11ac I get 117Mbps download. They should have really included gigabit e-net on this.

Also, the Netflix app seems to be a bit sluggish when scrolling around. A bit disappointed in that considering this is a much faster processor running in the new ATV.

Apple TV4 : missing "mark as watched/unwatched" function.
Previously on ATV3 is to press&hold on action/enter button.
Anyone? Thks!

Apple site> support> ATV> chat> He has no idea, asked me to call their helpline. Called,... spoke to a few reps, passed around, put-on-hold... & after 1hr they have no clue either! :(

I'm not finding the new keyboard entry system to be so bad. I actually think it's better than the old one which was a maddening process of scrolling left/right up/down. With this one now that I have a sense of how fast to flick, I can get to most letters much quicker. Still crazy that the iOS app isn't ready to go right now though.

No question I'd prefer to see gigabit, but if you aren't getting a real 100Mbps wired, something's wrong - either with the ATV or with your network. Wired is pretty much full speed as advertised when everything is working. And there isn't really a reason an ATV needs more than 100Mbps connection at this point in time.

A couple of tidbits I've noticed...

Double-clicking the Menu button immediately activates the screensaver (the Aerial ones are beautiful). Double-clicking the TV button pulls up the app switcher, like in iOS.

I wish the iOS Remote app supported the new Apple TV, as the onscreen keyboard is a step back from the previous generations, IMO.

I also wish the Siri remote supported voice control of music. It'd be nice to just say "Play 'XYZ' playlist/album" and have it pull up from your iTunes Match. But it doesn't seem like that's supported (yet?).

I can echo the fact that not having the iPhone app for a keyboard is almost a complete deal breaker for me. I am seriously considering returning this thing for that single reason. The time it took me to type in a password was epic.

I agree with lot of comments here on improvements and I'm confident Apple will sort most of them out with updates..

Once Siri Search API is released and permeates through all the apps (i.e TED, Plex etc) it will make things much simpler.

On remote controlling TV: I have volume control and sleep (TV turns off) working, do your TV come back to life if you wake up your ATV? Mine doesn't.. Annoying having to reach for the TV remote for one lousy button..

Also, has anyone compiled a complete list of all the apps on the App Store and put it online (and updating it)? There are a lot of apps I've only discovered via reading other people's comments etc..

Cheers,
PJ

Hey I get a max of 7Mbps and it's fine so ... Even works OK on 3Mbps ... 45Mbps is only a dream for me out in the country (UK).

I just think the fact that they still haven't done anything to address the problem of logging into multiple apps is astounding. As a long-time ATV user who now owns 4 of the devices in total (1 ATV2, 2ATV3's, 1ATV4) to me this is the biggest issue with the platform. I am constantly having to log into one app or another somewhere in the house. We have one in the guest room but it's almost completely useless because any time a guest goes to use it, the apps need to be logged in to again, and they aren't generally going to ask me to do that.

The most Apple thing they could have done to this platform is fix this problem with some sort of single-sign-on experience.

I don't have a new one yet, but this is my biggest beef. Why can't the ATV store our cable/satellite login and use it to automatically log in to the apps. It's a royal PITA to have to log in constantly.

Especially since most of those apps are using the exact same credentials!!

Or at least for a migration sort of thing for the new platform. But they can't even update the remote app. There's even a support page that states the remote app does NOT work with ATV4 (like it won't be updated?!).

What sort of stuff do you mean? And why do they need UVVU support? I haven't bought a physical movie in about three years. Buying and renting my movies on iTunes seems to work perfectly fine, and I don't need to pay anything extra to have stuff converted or worry about it not working everywhere.

Many people prefer the quality of physical media combined with the flexibility to take a digital copy on the road, or when a digital copy is sufficient be able watch something outside the primary viewing area. When your primary Eco system doesn't play well with others it's an issue. Maybe you're good with a half bit rate product, but that's your choice. The reality is the studios have all but dumped iTunes digital copy so it leaves one with a split ecosystem. Also, when you have a large format projection system AppleTV is insufficient so you need physical media.

What sort of stuff? Read this thread.

Tip: Press the play/pause button when the keyboard is up and it will switch between capital and lower case.

Really enjoying the Siri functionality so far. "Play the newest episode of South Park" immediately started playing this week's new episode. It's so much quicker than navigating the menus (which are admittedly not that different from previous gens).

To me it's a block buster and super hit device. Siri is perfect even though I speak with accent. Screen looks dazzling, playing asphalt with wireless beats headphones TV was an immersive experience. Connected wireless headphones directly to Apple TV. Aerial wallpaper are gorgeous which Apple can send everyday, weekly or monthly. Games and apps inclusion is mind blowing. QVC app shows live tv and option to shop directly within app. This app is wonderfully built. Remote is working like a charm. I am sold to the New Apple TV. 5 stars from me.
