Why not? admittedly I don't feel the need for one but I absolutely delight in people following their passion with such whimsy. It's a boring person that never does anything crazy just because. This is a really tough crowd lol.
Because it's the equivalent of making a hash pipe out of a Coke can when you already have an actual blown-glass hash pipe on your coffee table, resting on top of the Coke can.

I heard that apparently this guy also keeps his perishable food cold by sticking copper pipes and plastic tubing filled with liquid nitrogen into the food rather than simply using a refrigerator.
In the spirit of "modding a thing to do what it already does," I think it more likely that he just puts his food on the kitchen floor in front of the fridge and opens the refrigerator door.

That's cool. I could see some use in that if you fly a lot or just use it for entertainment (which I do). But beware of incoming apple lawsuit :p
What specific utility do you perceive that an iPad cannot already do straight out of the box?

Are there any apps that the Apple TV has that the iPad doesn’t have? I’ve never had an issue finding a streaming app for my iPad. Just wondering what the iPad is missing that the Apple TV has.
Is there any? Maybe the guy just wants the ApoleTV interface? Maybe he wants a “little TV” while “on the go” (a novel way to get “front row” and remote control back onto a mobile screen), maybe he likes proof of concept… or the narrow celebrity in doing something different?

I recall the story about the guy who got USB-C working on iPhone long before Apple. That too was met within “but why?” and “what’s the point” and passionate loyalty to Lightning, and “just wait until Apple lawyers…” go after someone doing whatever they want with something Apple no longer owns as soon as the sale is complete.

It’s his stuff, not ours or Apples. More power to him!

Oh I've done crazy stuff. I once modded/converted a radio controlled car to be a remote controlled siren to try to teach my dog not to bark (never mind that you can buy such things off the shelf - the mod seemed like more fun). But this is the equivalent to cabling an HP calculator to an iMac so that the calculator can have a larger display.... and presumably one would still just use it to type 58008

and your point is? seriously has the world gotten so boring that we can't see the fun in anything?

you don't do anything crazy, or silly, just for the fun of it? really?

Seems to me you are asking for the equivalent of being an a square white room with no windows because its more practical than a hookah bar to riff of your strange analogy.

Weighing a mere 8.23 pounds and you can stream a full 18 minutes with it's battery. But wait, there's more... plug in the optional 12' 3-prong power cord for non-stop streaming or utilize the ACDelco external battery with a whopping 180 Cold Cranking Amps (DC to AC converter also sold separately) for a full 4 hour run-time.

That’s literally the point. I’m confused as to why any of you are confused why it was done lmao.

It’s no different than the other Frankenstein android or windows mods ppl do.
Mind you, I had the same reaction to reading on how an old 3dfx Voodoo graphics card was frankensteined into a 2024 notebook this week - I'm just not the right audience. Carry on.

If someone managed to get tvos running on an ipad I’d be impressed even if there’s no real reason to use it that way it’d be a super cool feat, this, however, is just silly. A device that outputs hdmi can be plugged into a device that has an hdmi-in adapter attached? Shocker! A device that runs on a small amount of electricity can be run off a different power source than the wall? Wow!

I’m all for cool hacks but this really is just “daisy chaining adapters, a story”

I already have an iPad that I use exclusively as a TV - I just run all the apps on it (Apple TV +, Hulu, Netflix, Max, etc etc). I do not for the life of me understand why someone would undertake such a clunky workaround to accomplish something that an iPad can already do without any modifications at all.
You forgot that this thing will now have half the battery life since it is also powering the AppleTV off of the iPad battery.

I refuse to watch TV of any kind on an iPad or iPhone with the exception of streaming sports so that I can play the audio through a speaker and have something to glance at for replays in the garage. If I want to watch movies or shows I have big screens for that.
