You prefer swipe lift swipe lift swipe lift swipe lift swipe lift swipe to a smooth continuous motion? I guess we found the guy who never had an iPod.
Yes, it's natural just like scrolling a website. I'm not scrolling 3000 feet. It's literally no more than 2 swipes at most. I guess we found the guy who didn't realize Apple gave up on the iPod scroll wheel in 2007 for swiping.

I think the remote is much better. And the circular gesture may not work for YouTubeTV but tap 10 sec forward/back and swipe left right work just fine. I may never use the circular fine scrubbing but I am sure YouTube will get it eventually.
The circular scrub works with most streaming software, but you need to pay attention, if you go past a certain point it starts scrubbing backwards. After a few weeks of use I still think it is over sensitive but more manageable.

EDIT: Turns out something else is a real issue: connection! It looses connection ever 5 minutes, no other bluetooth around. the old remote never had this issue. Even dumber: It also stops the infrared functionality for tv audio!!!
Don't buy this remote, it's not worth it.

I forgot about this thread and tried it in store and got confused with the half directional circle.

I wanted to buy it as our current remote keeps getting lost and my Mrs thinks it’s too sensitive, but I think that the new remote will feel even worse.

£55 too much of a risk if I can’t return it. But the thicker remote maybe worth it

Not going to lie, I'm not a fan of the redesigned remote (color, thickness, extra buttons that provide same functionality as Bravia Sync, but mainly the wheel). It seems like Apple moved backwards rather than forwards with the new device. I mean, iPhone, iPad, and the the Magic Trackpad all feature a flat, rectangular surface for touch input just like the original Siri remote. The motion is perfectly smooth and easily mimicked in the iPhone's remote app. The circle wheel is like adding a physical keyboard to an iPhone; thank u, next lol.

Thankfully the original remote is still available at Best Buy. I hope Apple doesn't discontinue it.
Omg i was just going out to replace an old apple TV, the one with the original clickwheel and silver alum. But now I have to get the new Apple TV AND the remote extra? I've got no issues with the flat pad remote, except it is always so hard to find in the bed. And I thought the whole point of the pad was to be able to play games in Arcade? How do u play a game with a click wheel?

Don’t know exactly what happens with the games themselves, but to clarify, the new remote has both a click wheel and a touch-swipe scrolling pad in the center. It is actually really nice in my opinion although a whole lot less slick/minimalist looking than the previous remote. The new controller what it doesn’t have is accelerometers nor gyroscopes though which might affect some games probably.

Also, it looks to me that Apple is just relying on video game controllers because it is super easy to connect most recent enough Xbox and PS wireless controllers. More games look more and more tailored to that now too.

The new remote is in the box of the AppleTV 4k. Games with remote, pair a controller. I believe you can still pair older remotes, but last time I tried, only 1 at a time.
