I have a free trial and still haven't gotten around to even trying Apple TV yet - Netflix has distracted me with plenty.

But Apple needs more content and variety - content is king!

Through viewing clips/trailers of the content. Looks crap.

Then again, you say the service needs more variety after admitting you haven’t watched any content yourself, so you can go ahead and kick rocks.

I scrolled and counted how many shows were available. Compared to any other service, it’s inadequate at the moment.

I have the year free trial when I bought my Pro Max last year and I still haven't watched anything on it LOL When I checked it last year there was hardly anything on it and I lost interest pretty fast.

I prefer Netflix and HBOGo. I will cancel my AppleTV+ before the year is up. I'm not paying for that.

On the one hand, 12th doesn't sound great.

On the other hand…

  • they're ahead of HBO!
  • …the top score is 80, and they have 74. There's kind of not a whole lot of variance here. It's almost statistically meaningless. (Not to mention, if you take the dense rank instead, they're tied for sixth.)
[automerge]1591729045[/automerge]
I think that's a fair score.

It's less a reflection of the quality that Apple has provided (The software is, far and away some of the best on the market),

Maybe. IMO, the TV app really needs a lot of love. Lots of basic things. Like continuing to play audio to the same speaker after I've unpaused. Or after I got to the next episode. Or consistently storing the right timestamp ± a few seconds — not the episode before, not five minutes before, not twenty minutes before. Or showing me the shows I actually watch near the top, not randomly some other stuff.

To get the most out of Apple TV, you need to be tied in quite tight to the Apple eco-system to enjoy all the base features. I can only speak about the situation here in the U.K, but Android penetration is strong because Apple products are seen as more luxury items and are generally more expensive, even given the inclusion of VAT. Apple TV and streaming simply aren't in the same language here; there are more people likely to use 'Netflix' as a reference for such.

You don't need any Apple devices to watch. http://tv.apple.com

Lastly, the branding is a messy. What is Apple TV? Is it hardware? A macOS/iOS app? An app on the Apple TV hardware? Why aren't the services on the Apple TV hardware the same as on iOS/Mac?

The branding is messy (and I think they need to make more of the feature available across all devices), but I'm not sure that's much of a problem, really.

Surprised Disney edged out Netflix. But for me, ACSI is not transparent about it’s methodology, so I don’t have faith this represents (real) reality.
Suspect a lot of the satisfied Disney+ customers are parent who basically uses Disney cartoons (and other dusty kids stuff) as a relativlupy safe mute button for the kids , and maybe a few grown up movies for themselves as well

AppleTV beaten out by CBS All Access seems weird.
Even weirder for AppleTV to beat out HBO.
I would not take these numbers to the bank.

It's a score of 74 being outdone by a score of… 75. It doesn't really mean anything.

I’m surprised Criterion Channel didn’t rank higher for customer satisfaction. I feel like most of it’s users are insanely satisfied with that service.

Im sure the release of The Greyhound this Friday will up this score a tad bit :)

I like DirecTV Now for news and purchasing 4K Ultra discs. Quality just isn’t there yet to stream movies.

I think branding is an issue. Ask an average person what Apple TV+ is and they have no idea it even exists let alone has original content.

Do I know how it shoud‘ve been branded and packaged? No... but I don’t get paid to do those things. Lol

Yep. The branding is a mess. Apple TV the box. Apple TV app on the Apple TV box and other boxes and smart TV’s. Apple TV+ streaming service in the app on the box, other boxes and smart TV’s. Try explaining that to my parents.

I just have to chime in with, "How much did CBS have to pay for that rating?"
I would certainly consider coming in behind CBS a failure, even if they bribed/rigged their way into a positive number.

I'm not happy

I wonder how many AppleTV+ viewers are actually paying for it. I suspect a free customer is more favourable towards the service right now.
I love TV+ and I paid $49.99 for the year upfront in November. Haven't questioned that for one second, as month after month TV+ has provided me quality shows. Far better than the stuff I've found on Netflix/Hulu (originals-wise).

Indeed, I don't really get the rankings.

The Mandalorian is literally the only interesting thing I found to watch on Disney+ (aside from movies I've already watched), and it honestly wasn't great. Hulu has a few good things (Devs was seriously amazing), but I'm generally left pretty underwhelmed with the quality, and when there is something I want to watch, they often have only a few episodes.

Netflix, Amazon, and especially HBO are the only other options with a decent library of quality content, as far as I'm aware, but I guess that just isn't what people are looking for. Or perhaps "quality" doesn't mean the same thing to a lot of other people as it does to me.

I think Disney+ is fueled purely by parents of young children. The only people I know who have it are friends with kids under the age of 13. And, especially with schools closed, being able to stream their Disney show/movie has been pretty valuable.

The rest of us? Sure, Mando was fun and I’m excited for Season 2, but nothing else will keep be subscribed in the mean time.

For a sec there i thought "NM" meant "Never mind" till i look at legend.

Kind of shows that people don’t perceive Apple TV+ the same way as how Apple and elitists here perceive Apple TV+

I also think allot of it, just like any service who starts late in the game, is expected down the list Thus, DIney has a better chance coz aside from kids/family viewing, although you can say that to any streaming service, i don't think that is ever the main goal, but can help

Its just Disney has been doing it longer than Apple.

I haven’t even opened TV+. Why? Because the app isn’t available on my LG C9 and I don’t want to buy a super old Apple TV. If they refresh the Apple TV (the device), I’ll buy one and try TV+.

Your comment doesn’t make sense.

Disney started late as a streaming service but is at the top of this list. Apple TV+ also launched before Disney+.

If you are speaking of content, a lot of the other services have more content than Disney+

I have no idea what people are watching on Disney+. I have coworkers who say it's the only service they watch; apart from the Mandalorian, the only thing I can find interesting on it is a bit of nostalgia

Star Trek exclusives likely helped CBS - Discovery was very well received, Picard followed up nicely, and there’s an animated show coming. Also some people liked the Twilight Zone reboot (I... did not).

I’ve enjoyed the documentary shows. The Imagineering Story, Jeff Goldblum, etc.
