Now wait a minute, I thought Lightning was a superior connector and moving everything to USB-C is stifling innovation?
Lightning is done. Just need the spring iphone refresh, and we can put it out to pasture. Is this beginning of the end of lightning?
It doesn't come with a new cable… buy that separately. Because…the environment, you know.So the new remote has a new cable to charge it. That's it? What a useless update.
You know why.I am happy but also like "why did it take this long!!!"
Would much rather have that for something you will need to charge once or twice a yearStill no location tracking? Ugh.
No, the real missed opportunity for Apple would be not getting a good number of users to double-dip next year for a U$B-C battery case. What a huge missed opportunity it was to put USB-C in the new AirPods Pro.
I'd rather Apple figure out :Makes no adding air pods pro to USB C more odd to be honest.
It's called USB Power Delivery 2.0/3.x.I'd rather Apple figure out :
Using USB-C 3.1/3.2, TB3, TB4 cables and using 15/20/30/40/60/100/150W adapters with AirPods Pro 2+ cases in the future so that the cases' battery doesn't a) Galaxy Note 9/10 explode or rapidly degrade battery capacity and effectiveness.
Yes location tracking. For a device that stays in a stationary room at all times. Don’t want to leave ur Apple TV remote at the office or the mall all those times u take the Apple Remote there for absolutely no reason.Still no location tracking? Ugh.
Why do u need find my on a device that stays in your living room.So nice addition, but the lack of find my capabilities is a big miss
I meant charging port.It doesn't come with a new cable… buy that separately. Because…the environment, you know.
The previous Apple TV 4K's didn't include a charger. They included a usb-c to lightning cable only. You only have to charge this remote a few times a year so I doubt most people are buying dedicated chargers for it.Do I have this right? They switch from Lightning to USB-C while also making the choice to omit a charger for the remote?
Apple doesn’t use Power Delivery on Lightning it’s solely for USB-C connection. Not seeing anything of Lightning in this site https://www.usb.org/usb-charger-pdIt's called USB Power Delivery 2.0/3.x.
Apple-hardware's been using it for a while now, even via Lightning, I think they got the hang of it.

You can fast charge your iPhone 8 and later up to 50 percent battery in around 30 minutes.1
Fast charging works when you use an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable and one of these adapters:
Apple 18W, 20W,2 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W, or 96W USB-C Power Adapter
A comparable third-party USB-C power adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD)
By the 12 mini only takes 12W via MagSafe is it higher than this USB-C to Lightning? That’s for the capture much appreciated.USB-A won’t go above 5 volts (officially). Lightning supports 9 volt charging when using a C to lightning cable. Photo is my 12 mini charging.
My 2015 MacBook 12” supported USB-PD. That’s how it charged.
