I thought it was obvious that nothing was shipping today? Seeing as their Back to School promo is running till the 7th. You all should expect the new iPods to be released AFTER that date. Though you'll be able to drool and hope and wish they did ship today when the Apple Store comes back up with the updated content.

If the name for Apple TV is staying the same, it's possible that this version of iOS might be completely different from mobile iOS all together. Perhaps it's a test to see how well iOS would work on a large desktop like scale.

All I know is we'll have all the answers in about 2 hours when it's all over. :D

Someone else owns the name ITV not iTV. On the other hand, someone else owned the name iPhone, iOS and iPad.

Case is irrelevant (and most of ITVs branding is actually 'itv' these days...), and the name 'ITV' is owned by one of the biggest broadcasters in one of Apple's biggest markets. Comparisons to iPhone, iOS and iPad don't stand.

Aggrrr! Imperialists who can't see that what happens in other countries can impact on a US company and Fanboys who can't believe that Apple can't always get what it wants. I don't know why it bugs me, but it does!

I just hope that if they do update the Apple TV line, they make it possible for current owners of Apple TV's to upgrade their devices' OS. I have two of them, I hate the latest software update. The interface is jittery, and most of all, the downloads are slow! So slow, that family now hates the Apple TV 'cause it never makes the complete download of a movie, so it stops playing the movie until it can muster enough energy to continue the download. I have examined my network thinking it's a networking issue, but it's not. The Apple TV never did this until I upgraded to the latest OS version. I also find the movie selection to be limited. I was even thinking about getting a Samsung Blueray DVD player and interfacing with NetFlix and calling it quits with the Apple TV, but I like streaming photo's and music to the house via the device.

I agree 100% with this. I actually have streamed a TON of movies and TV shows through Netflix via my PS3.

Unfortunately, I don't see Apple making the latest Apple TVs upgradable. We, my friend will be SOL.

Not necessarily the BTS offer has often overlapped with the fall releases, which is why it specifies model numbers it applies to.

if they don't announce something with Apple TV today, I'm going to say something about it on this site. I'm not kidding.

What, you mean the trolls in the other thread who said that Apple would just buy ITV for $7 - 8 billion dollars in cash for the trademark were talking nonsense? Who'd have guessed!

(Hint: the reason Apple has a big pile of spare cash is precisely because they are not stupid enough to do things like pay $7 - 8 billion dollars for a trademark when they already have a perfectly good name for this product.)

Speculation. But everything else has Netflix, if AppleTV didn't it would be left out.

I would really hope it has Netflix streaming capability. The thing is though, it is not exactly like SJ to enable his iOS devices to becomes gateways to non-iTunes revenue-generating services. But unless he transitions the iTunes movie database to a streaming service, he can't effectively compete with Netflix.

Glad it's not iTV

That was a battle Apple would have paid heavily to win, and IMHO it's not worth the fight.

"AppleTV" is fine, it's got a rap for being what it is now, but with the new one being iOS based, noone will remember the old AppleTV if the new one is as cool as it's hyped to be (or even partly).

I told you so Kevin Rose.

No iTV for you Kevin. Start seeking better sources for your rumors.
