"The experience of using it is said to blow away the types of junky smart TV interfaces we've had to deal with so far. This is the first real Apple TV product."

Please, God, not that cr*ptacular watch interface. Odds of me getting the new AppleTV go from "low" to "zero" if that's it.

When I want to watch a particular movie, I often start by using my TV provider's clunky text-based search mechanism. It's even harder on my Apple TV, since all the services are independent and have their own UIs. If Apple can provide a way to find content across multiple domains on the Apple TV using voice recognition, that would be a huge plus. Eventually, if they offer broadcast and cable programming as well and extend the search to it, that would be even better.

Just add a Plex app and I can get rid of my Ruko. Just allow me to stream (mainly youtube) from my PC (aka Chromecast) and I can get rid of my Chromecast. Is that asking to much ? lol.
You can do it now by using Beamer with your AppleTV. Beamer reads ALL movie files like mkv

I actually thought the new iPod touch was going to be the new remote. That's why they have refreshed the iPod touch with an a8. If there is no synergie between iPod touch and Apple TV they wouldn't have bothered to put the a8 in there.

so what do you guys think it should cost? 200 would be the sweet spot for me, like an ipod touch which roughly has the same parts.

but i also thought, that the watch would sell for 250...

Well since Apple is targeted at the 1%'ers, $199....

Hope I'm wrong...

Better off with a Wii (used $79), Xbox 360 or PS3 (new core units for $149 on sale).

I'm looking forward to this. I don't think it will do 4K because of the relatively lack of 4K TVs out there, the lack of 4K content, and the absolute cow the internet providers would have if Apple sold 20 million of these in the U.S. and every one of them tried to stream a 4K Walking Dead episode on Sunday night.

FINALLY.....an Apple product I can get excited about and relate to. (I'm still trying to figure out why I need an apple watch...just don't "get it").

I've been waiting for two years for an improved version of the ATv. I will buy one as soon as the new Atv is available!

While I was annoyed at this being delayed at the WWDC, I can get behind Apple taking the time to do it right and have it polished rather than rushing it out full of bugs and deficiencies.

Still kind of annoying though - for having so much cash they sure don't seem interested in having any extra engineers on hand to get things done in a timely manner.

Engineering talent is not a commodity. It takes a long time to build a solid engineering team, and it is very hard to make a 5000 person team function at anywhere near twice the capacity of a 2500 person team.

Where are you buying a used Wii for $79? I picked one up for the boarding house at the school I work at for £15 ($23), boxed, with all the peripherals and an extra nunchuck.

I would love an improved UI, a more ergonomic remote and an app store...but apparently we need to be "blown away" by the next "revolution" in TV. If this thing behaves anything like Wii or Kinect I will not only pass on it but kick myself in the ass for spending so much money on iTunes movies. I can't stand motion controls.

Voice controls have been around for freaking ever. They're not innovative at all - every game using them has completely sucked.

Voice controls just aren't suitable for video games. Any timing based gameplay is impossible. And games which are fun that don't use timing based gameplay require more complexity than is realistic with voice controls.

Rockband, Guitar Hero are fun to play, as well as any other karaoke style kind of game.
So if guessing is allowed, Apple TV Music App bringing some additional gaming experience to the new Apple Music services...

Targeted to the Casual gamer?

I guess I need to take off my tie and jacket when I use the new Apple TV.
I doesn't work on airplanes no matter if you are naked or scoring more points

But what if it's only $150? You can't expect a low-cost machine to compete with Xbox or PS can you?

The A8 chipset is believed to be on par with PS3 (when you unlock both cores fully and do not have to worry about battery life). So you're right, it couldn't compete with Xbox One or PS4 but it could compete with previous generation of consoles and considering how disappointing most games look on PS4 and Xbox One compared with previous generation, the Apple TV begins to look real attractive as a fit right between console generations.

What if it was the A9 instead?

iPhone games are ****** enough on the actual iPhone, why would I want to play them on a television?
Because that's the way real video games are meant to be played since the invention of video games. Portable gaming devices have their audience and are just entry level kind of games, tiny screen not so comfortable controllers is not the same experience even you may prefer them. What is your favorite game?

I believe you've misunderstood my post...iPhone games are in no way "real video games" and nobody with more than a handful of brain cells should waste their time playing them either on a phone or a television.

My guess is that it will be just like the Amazon Fire TV where search will only work in Apples walled garden and will ignore any other sources

I play them all the time with my kids. Angry birds just to name one. With my friends we play other games, our interaction is not online is real life, you cannot drink a virtual beer. There are plenty of video games, real video games fully running on iOS. Can you please elaborate on what you consider a real video game?
Please remember that with an Apple TV via AirPlay you can stream you Mac display to a 70" TV.
The lack of brain cells really shows off when people can't see beyond what is currently available, nor what can be out there.

Why apple TV (and by extension, iTunes) doesn't support 4K yet, I don't know.
Because nobody has a 4K TV set in their living room.

Apple isn't interested in selling to pros and geeks, they're after the "average consumer" because they outnumber the geeks by thousands-to-one. And the average consumer thinks the current HD TVs are good enough. That's why Ultra-HD never saw the light of day. That's why 3D TV sets failed. That's why plasma screen TVs failed.

I get 4/5K on a computer screen. You can see more of what you're displaying (spreadsheets, graphics, etc.). But a 4K set top box on a TV that doesn't support 4K resolution, to show off content that isn't broadcast in 4K—what's the point?
